What Could Have Been: At earlier drafts, Drizella was going to be the sister with the Heel-Face Turn arc. The creative team ultimately decided to have it be Anastasia instead after seeing her subplot in Cinderella II; The Baker she fell for in that film briefly appears with her in this film's credits, indicating that their romance still happens in this alternate timeline.

@@AI-ig9qn I would not call her mom an abuser to her, or at least not until after Cinderella 1. She did abuse Cinderella herself, but her own daughters seem to have been spoiled. I might have figured out a way to explain the "love by hand-touch" without breaking the movie. It's a long explanation, so have a sit down if you want to read it. The wand's magic can create a great illusion, but it ISN'T 100% perfect and has limits (breaking a spell strictly at midnight is an example). The Prince can have his memories re-written by the wand, but not *overwritten*. He'll initially believe it was Anastasia he was dancing with that night - until he actually touches her hand and realize something off - it's not the hand he remembers holding during the ball. His memories and his senses suddenly contradict each other. Then later, he touches Cinderella's hand; while HE might think it's love, it's really his senses recognizing her familiar touch. The mice and their catchy little song help him confirm he's been fooled, and once he reaches Cinderella on the ship, he finally dispels the illusion touching her hand again. And what happens later? The Step-mother tries replacing Cinderella altogether, with Anastasia as the doppelganger - but again the wand magic is not foolproof. At the critical moment of saying "I do," Anasderella (or whatever fake name you think works better) touches hands with the Prince at the altar. Despite the visual transformation, the Prince notices a big difference upon contact, quickly figuring out there's another illusion. Also, Anastasia concludes with "I don't" at the same touch. That's the hardest part to explain, my workaround is this: She might also believe the same thing about the special hand-holding - but as the movie progressed, it was obvious she was having serious doubts about the entire situation. They boil over at the altar. She was expecting something special from embracing the Prince's hand - but felt nothing. Was she supposed to? I'll let you decide. But I do know what she decided both mentally and emotionally - "No, none of this feels right at all, I can't do it." Thus, everything comes together. And that's my take. This of course relies on the assertion that you can subtly recognize how a person's hand feels versus someone else's... I never had a relationship that deep, so I can't tell you if that's real. Still, if you find that feasible in a world where magic exists, it can certainly help resolve the movie's most questionable element.

@mattdamutt5681
@mattdamutt5681 2 года назад
@@pokemonduck I understand what you mean. It is strange to say that a wand that completely undoes an entire year of time is unable to create the perfect illusion as well. Now, it's still feasible to do your strongest spell perfectly, but still have problems when casting a less powerful spell. An example is a wizard in a video game - he can spark off a regional lightning storm, but he still has trouble making a candle-sized flame in his hand. Still, it all depends on your perspective on what is possible in the story. I can't tell you how exactly the magic wand works and affects physics - I don't have the manual for that, lol.
@CormacThunderStar
@CormacThunderStar 2 года назад
I like to think that its the whole "true love is the strongest magic" idea. That no matter how powerful a spell or a person is that they can never triumph over true love so Tremaine´s spell was not able to make their shared love go away completly, just forgotten
@mattdamutt5681
@mattdamutt5681 2 года назад
@@CormacThunderStar Sure. I don't know if you can call it magic in the same sense, but I see no problem with you believing true love stands as its own independent force. It can counter against magic trying to fool and mess with people.

"but the talking mice said she's the wrong girl" line is funny, though also a mild reference to the original grim tale, except the ones who tell the prince he's got the wrong girl are the birds, and they also snitch about the fact the stepsisters mutilated their own feet to fit in the glass slipper! Some of them like Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty are good, others like Cinderella have no point since they were done already or come out of nowhere. But look up Dark Aurora and you'll find a lot of people like the idea of her being branded a villain because she had Maleficent as her mentor if she was invited to her christening. Disney AUs are always so interesting, with things like Mirrorverse and Twisted Tales hopefully it'll get popular enough for Disney to make more stuff out of them.

I think this film is why the whole "stripping the hero of everything they have and are" Thing gets my rage burning. Seriously, whenever something like a time-travel plot or mind control plot comes up makes me feel like my hair catches fire, because it steals everything corporeal and incoporeal from the hero, robbing them of all they hold dear to their heart. Not land or wealth, which can be regained any day, but rather their friends, memories, and the person they hold closest to their heart. Also, I'm kinda glad this is now the Canon with Cinderella because of the Prince. Sure, he doesn't have much, but the comical quick thinking and his desire to follow only the real Cinderella as his love interest. And given how Cinderella has some badass characterization in this to where they mutually help each other, he's got a keeper.

One of the things I love about the film is how it roasts the absurdity of the original Cinderella, while still honouring and respecting it. It also has a great message: if you want your happy ending, you have to earn it. Both Cinderella and the Prince have to work for their relationship to happen.

What I also love about the movie is that u can see the guilt slowly eating up at Anastasia like the minute she saw Cinderella coming down the stairs she knew what she was doing was wrong and even when the King was saying of how he met his wife that they were in love the minute they held hands and founded that seashell together u can clearly see her being distraught and unsure of herself. I like to think Anastasia basically taught us we shouldn't change for someone just to be loved.

How he stalks Bella bc he doesn’t remember what it’s like to be human/have rights to privacy. It’s like when people think Joker and Harley is romantic and ignore the scary part that makes it interesting

Also, the book explains that vampires have a supernatural ability to attract humans/make them trust them, so now ware in territory like “were Bella’s emotions her own, or edwards powers making her THINK she loved him?” Bella could realistically have no free will throughout the whole series which is HORRIFYING. And now we enter dubious consent territory……

I think this movie's saving grace is that the characters feel like actual characters who drive the plot forward. What I don't like about most Disney Princess stuff, especially from the old days, is that the Princesses have the agency of a wet noodle, the secondary characters don't feel like they're even there, and the villain carries the entire movie on its shoulders. Now, Lady Tremaine with her crazy plot of having time-warping, mind-bending magic is the engine of the movie, yes, but it feels like everyone's got a role and like their actions affect the plot, meaning that Cinderella actually earned her happily ever after instead of it being handed to her by everyone around her.

@coffintears5821
@coffintears5821 2 года назад
Um except for the fact that Cinderella actually did need help in order to get out of her situation because without it she wouldn't have gotten out of there. If it weren't for the fairy god mother or the mice or the other animals in the barn she wouldn't have had her happily ever after. She couldn't help her self because shes not strong enough to escape her situation. Its not that shes weak but because lady tremayne is so powerful she controls everything Cinderella does and if she steps out of line even once she gets abused and she knows Cinderellas weaknesses so its easy to trap her and hurt her. So its practically difficult to overcome her because she has such an overwhelming presence over Cinderella a powerful, controling figure. A larger than life figure if you may call it. Yes she had her happily ever after handed to her but only because she wasn't strong enough to do it on her own. Shes not weak but shes not as strong as lady tremayne.
@luckyinugirl1816

I say Cinderella earned it after what her stepmother and stepsisters put her through. The mice and birds were her only friends and the Fairy Godmother only showed up when Cinderella felt there was no hope left for her. She had worked hard for years and once she put that slipper on, she was free from her stepmother. So, I'd say she earned it.
