I would definitely suggest Cinema4D over Maya if you are pursuing "Motion Graphics" versus "Visual Effects" and I would suggest watching tutorials on After Effects as well.
I recorded this tutorial on 3.4 GHz iMac Intel Core i7 with 16GB ram. Definitely not enough of a workhorse for full production rendering but certainly powerful enough to model, texture and animate with. For non-personal/professional projects I work on a fully-loaded Mac Pro and render farm.
I know that Broadcast has fewer options with Dynamics, however that shouldn't stop you. Watch PART 2 of this tutorial where I explain a better way to do the strings without Soft Body dynamics. However, the solution uses the Hair object. I am not sure if Broadcast has Hair.
I am having trouble with the strings on my renders.. they just can't seem to set down into place and I end up having weird flat polygon shapes flying off into the air from middle of the balloon. any suggestions?
Try "baking" your dynamics simulation. The random seed is consistent for things like displacement and noise and animated patterns, but Dynamics works just like real life. Each time you drop something, it's going to fall completely different than the last time you dropped it. "Baking" the simulation stores the "solve" into an animated cache that will replay the same each time.
Hey bro, love your tutorials, but I am having an issue with the balloons, I'm using Cinema4D R.15 and the part where you add the dynamic body tag and changed the force so he balloons would come back together, was working in R.15. I played with the force more, but couldn't get the balloons to cluster together. Any ideas of what settings in R.15 I need to change?
Trust me man, don't go for Mac when it comes to 3D. Unless you want to pay at least a thousand for a Pro series Mac, your renders are gonna be slow as hell. I used to use a macbook air, rendering something like this would take at least 5 hours. Go for a PC. I have 12 gb of Ram now and I can render something like this in only half an hour or so.
Hi i am from compositing background but know beginner maya, dont know abt C4D...thing is I am interested about motiongraphics,so can you plz suggest me which software to go..?.. I am lil bit confused the kind of animations i see in diffrent motion graphics tutorials.is that all are possible to do here with C4D.I mean animations like tron motiongraphics, oblivion motion graphics, ministry of sound head phones, kind of that....plz answer me ..I am serious need.... :)
Question about seed - does zero mean randomization will be the same each time you "run" the scene and 1 means the next time you run the scene it gives you a different random pattern but run it again it gives u the same result as the first time? (I hope I am explaining myself) I looked at the documentation and there was no explanation - I have an emitter spitting out a different pattern at seed 0. I would like it to be the same so I can render segments of frames (like 1-100 then 101-200)
HELP!!! I noticed the under your simulation tags, there's quite a bit of options... I'm running C4D R14 Broadcast and I only have Rigid Body, Collider Body, and Ghost Body....plz tell me why! thanks. would like to complete this tutorial
thanks a lot...that's a relief for me to decide on now...I see your tuts are very good..easy to understand even though i just opened this ballon tut after onvce i've touched the C4D interface..that is 40 % i do understand from this tut....thanks again .
alright so maybe im blind or missing something, but under this 'rigid body' tag, there are only the following options: basic, dynamics and collision. i can't continue with the tutorial because there isnt a 'force' on this menu. is it hidden somewhere?
I just wanna share this with people who might run into the same problem which I just found out - if the emitted instance object has dynamics on it- it must be baked inside the dynamics bake parameter and not use the Simulation>Particles>Bake Particles Tag.
with the string attaching to balloon problem - may be u tried this already but I suspect it may help to change the setting in Dynamics Body Tag>Collision>Inherit Tag from "off" to "top level" - it's supposed to make the entire null group act as one object - I haven't tried yet but I will try and see.
I NEED HELP WITH THIS TOO, IM USING CINEMA 4D R11.5 AND I CANT FIND THE FORCE TAB AND I CANT FIND PRECISELY THE DYNAMICS BODY TAG. IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE?
Hey man! Your tutorials are pretty detailed and well done! congratz for you ;) I was just wondering what mac do you have, because I can see that your render times are good and I want to buy a new iMac to work things like modelling, animation, video editing and quick high end photography edition; so it would be fine to get advice from you about mac models.
When I added a rigid body tag to it, under dynamics I only have the option to turn it off or onto a setting called ghost. Neither of them make the balloons pop out!

Had the same problem... the issue was I've installed Cinema4d BROADCAST, and I've needed Cinema4d STUDIO. In Studio you have all the options showned on this video. Do that! ;-)
hi i am trying to make a dynamic simulation where the balloon floats up and colids with things. but when the balloon starts to float up the string and the balloon separate. how can i fix this?
Great Tutorial!I'm just having a problem with rigid body tag! When u press play urr explode, mine just drop down like if there was gravity.Do u know why?
