Thanks for uploading this! I absolutely love James' old reviews. I'll never forget watching early Monster Madness and similar videos like this one as a kid.

I don't want to stir up drama so I'll just say I love these videos but I do always find it annoying when James gets on a moral high horse over CGI and remakes, their his opinions and I respect them, but I also hope that people don't just blindly follow them without their own two cents on the matter.

Honestly, looking back at some of James' older reviews, he comes off as a bit of a snob and a prick towards modern films and filmmaking. Also, he comes across as one of the cranky old-timers in Hollywood who think that puppets and animatronics are the be all, end all, to special effects in movies, and that CGI is not worth using... kinda ironic considering when he made and released his AVGN film back in 2014, most of the reviews of that film pointed out how unrealistic, stupid and silly the practical, puppet and animatronic effects were, and how his film would've been better as an online film rather than something you release in theaters, or that James should've attempted to get the backing of a major film studio rather than trying to be independent and do everything himself all the way. That experience, I think, has humbled James, because I think he's finally realized; that puppets, animatronics and practical effects are literally a dead art in Hollywood now, and trying to bring them back into the mainstream is only going to financially ruin you and your career if you want to make it in that business, no matter how dedicated or passionate you are about film and filmmaking.

@@JoshtheBackwoodsStoryteller I feel thats a little overly harsh towards James movie, he's made it very clear that it wasn't about the money and just getting the chance to make a movie his way which was doing things the Flying Fuckernaughts VS the Astro Bastards way, which is fine for a passion project that wasn't looking to break the bank anyways. Everything else you said though I agree with you 100%, James has been snobbish when it comes to the way the tides have changed in the industry, but in more recent years he's gotten a bit more understanding and a alot more quiet at shouting down non-practical effects in his reviews. I'm not sure if how the movie was handled changed his tune (though the fact he hasn't tried making another like it since is a bit telling) personally I speculate that as he's gotten olden with having kids as well as having met and shot the shit with personal idols of his like Tom Savini and Joe Bob Briggs, I think James has slowly accepted that Rubber Suits, Puppets, Stop motion, and Animatronics aren't the end all be all, they along with CGI are just tools for movie making and all of them can be done fantastically, well, avagare, mediocre, and terribly, using the old ways doesn't get you instant success and with millions of dollars on the line with every film, you go with what makes sense and what will make audiences want to see your film. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and being civil about them

@@Gojiro7 Yeah, there's no getting around it; James has really slowed down alot over the last decade since the AVGN movie. And honestly, it seems like he's lost the passion he once had for wanting to go and make movies. Now, it seems like he's permanently chained to AVGN and Screenwave-related content (I'll skip the whole Screenwave debacle since it is WAY too big of a rabbit hole to talk about on here). Which to me, is a shame, because when he made his "Cinemassacre 300 - The Dragon In My Dreams" all those years ago in 2010, the message he left in that video really made me root for him, and I wanted him to create the movies he's always wanted to make, rather than being constantly shackled to AVGN and other online reviewing endeavors like he has been since 2006. Me personally, I really like his old horror films that he made when he was in high school and in college, And to me at least, his 48 Hour Film Festival entries, along with Legends of the Blue Hole, Red Zombie, Kung Fu Werewolf From Outer Space and The Deader the Better, still hold up today. And I held out hope that one day, he'd get to make big budget blockbuster versions of these films. But with the current direction James has taken his creativity and imagination (or lack thereof) since 2014, it saddens me to say that we may never see him make films like the ones I've mentioned, ever again.
