Cinematic Excrement: Episode 131 - Dirty Love 

A family friend of mine believes the infamous "vaccines give you autism" claim because she's a stereotypical ignorant redneck who refuses to learn things and would rather live under a rock than do that. She even had the gall to tell me to look it up. I have autism myself and I did look that claim up before what I said. What a shock, the claim is false. I mean, why is it so hard these days to learn something for once?

Honestly, it feels like a lot of his performance in the prequels isn't necessarily his fault. It's largely the fault of the poor script he had to work with (especially the dialogue) and Lucas' direction. There are moments in those, especially Revenge of the Sith, where he showed he could be intimidating and intense. But actors can only do so much with bad writing and direction. You can tell he's trying with what he's given, but he wasn't given a lot to work with. I actually wouldn't mind if he had some kind of late career comeback, because he could maybe be awesome with a good script and director to work with.

On top of that, let's be real with ourselves, Christensen didn't exactly have the best material to work with. We can say all we want about other "Star Wars" movies, but the prequels had some particularly bad writing (that was one-upped by TROS). And no one, and I mean NO ONE could make it salvageable. Fun fact, did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio was Lucas' original choice to play Anakin in AOTC and ROTS? Can you imagine him trying to make that stupid "I don't like sand" monologue work? I cringe at the mere thought of that.

Man, remember when bashing Lucas and the prequels was considered internet comedy gold? Those were good times.

It reminds me of this movie "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead" in which the antagonist is Christopher Walken playing a mobster who's paralyzed from the waist down and kept around a blond nurse and he says at one point more or less "She may not know about health but she's hot". It piqued my curiosity and I looked around who the actress was and it turned out that it was Jenny McCarthy's film debut. "She didn't know about health" indeed.

Her downfall, in retrospect, was she wanted sooo badly to be funny, like her cousin, Melissa. Some one told her once she was funny (probably to get some) and unfortunately it got into her mind and created one trainwreck after another with her. Yeah, she was okay in that MTV show, but she was not acting, she was just corralling a bunch of drunk college guys. She just was not funny like a comedienne sort of way

Son of the Mask is the scariest movie I've ever seen

The number of "anti-vaxxers" hasn't changed. There is a large difference between people who think that polio vaccines cause autism, and the people who don't want an untested dose of gene therapy for a very survivable disease. Making no distinction between the two is at best ignorant and at worst deliberately misleading.

It was gone during the acute phase of the disease and for a while after that. It's scary what Covid can do to the human brain. Even if your false propaganda was correct, it completely ignores the longterm effects of Covid in many cases. We're only beginning to understand how destructive the disease is, how much it damages the heart, lungs, brain. Long Covid is a thing. People have taken their own lives because of Long Covid, the thought of having to live in that state of constant total exhaustion, possibly for the rest of their days was too much to bear. There is so much more to the disease than discussing rates of immediate survival. It's not just "another flu". 4.1 million people have died of Covid-19 so far worldwide. That's more than the entire population of the City of Los Angeles. More than the entire population of Oklahoma. In just a few days it will be as much as the entire population of Oregon. 606,618 of those people died in the US so far (CDC).

Imo, Freddy Got Fingered is really good. I'm a huge fan of Tom Green, so a lot of the movies insane gross-out comedy really works for me, and Tom Green kills it as Gord.

I'm a volunteer counsellor and I've gotten very good at not judging people no matter what their opinions are when they come to me for help or emotional support. But I think anti-vaxxers are my limit. There's just no way I can detach myself enough to not fucking hate people who think that it's better for their children to risk dying from preventable diseases than to potentially end up like me. Even if the link between vaccines and autism was verifiably true, which it absolutely is not, this position would be fucking reprehensible. Nobody who takes it should be allowed anywhere near children.

I think in order for you to be the Anti Chris Chan, you have to be the polar opposite of everything they are. IE: Self sufficient, creative, mature and respectful of women and people of color. Jenny McCarthy and Christine Weston Chandler share WAY too many similarities to ever be considered opposites.

Sometimes I'm happy I was only diagnosed as an adult and wasn't a child in 1998 when Wakefield's FRAUDULENT "study" to support false FRAUDULENT damage claims in the courts started the wave of anti-vaxxer insanity that still goes on today. Who knows what could have happened to me if my parents had fallen for that. Being a "weird kid" with "behavioural problems" was hard enough by itself back then. --- For those who don't know: Some scumbag ambulance chasers in the UK devised a fraud scheme to talk parents of children with autism into suing the manufacturers of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine for damages. They hired quack Andrew Wakefield for £400,000 to write a fake study to "prove" in court that vaccines cause autism. The goal was to establish by court ruling as a "fact" that children "became autistic" within two weeks after getting injected with the MMR vaccine to squeeze as much money as possible out of the manufacturers. Basically an advanced version of the old "you dinged my car, this witness, who is totally not somebody I've known for years, no siree, saw you do it - now pay me!" trick. Practically every single "argument" present-day anti-vaccinationists try to make leads more or less directly back to this fake study, based on false and manipulated research data. The entire modern anti-vaxxer cult is based on a fraud scheme by some scumbag "slip-and-fall" lawyers and a quack who had already embarrassed himself with another roundly disproved "study" that tried to link Crohn's disease to... wanna hazard a guess? The measles vaccines. Jenny McCarthy is not only an apologist for Wakefield, she's closely associated with him, wrote the foreword of one of his books, and her own anti-vaxxer grift is based on his fraud. She's abused her own son as "Exhibit A" for her grift for years and subjected him to useless and dangerous treatments. Worst of all, her son is most likely not even autistic, but had LKS (acquired epileptic aphasia in children between three and seven). McCarthy is one of the most untalented attention whoring bimbos (I don't use that term lightly, normally I don't use it at all) who ever finagled a career out of horny entertainment business execs and influential boyfriends in the industry, she's also a child abuser and scam artist who is indirectly responsible for dozens, if not hundreds over time, of preventable deaths by stirring the manufactured vaccine panic for her own financial gain (books, appearances, etc.). She's indirectly responsible for the mistreatment of countless autistic children because gullible parents listen to her nonsense and believe her lies about how she "healed" her son. She's a repulsive, despicable human being.

One of the main differences is that it's actually possible to have sympathy for Chris-Chan. Yeah she may have problems but she grew up with abusive parents and was subjected to multiple relentless and often cruel cyberbullying campaigns (no matter what you feel about Chris-Chan it's hard to hear about the bluespike incident and not have your sympathies lie with Christine because what happened was horrifying and awful). That doesn't excuse her actions but it makes it possible for you to feel a little sorry for her. McCarthy doesn't elicit the same sympathy. She's grew up in what was a loving supportive family from all accounts and became famous almost instantly specifically because she looked hot. She's never been the target of massive campaigns of online abuse and has way more fame than what she should deserve. Unlike Chris Chan I have no sympathy for her and dislike her strongly. Because she is hurting children in an incredibly wreckless and callous way.
