Ah love the format of this. Your work inspires me a lot and I'm really drawn to your grading style. I loved the interiors section particularly in the (lecture / theatre?) hall.
Nice Shots Man... Keep posting Your camera is Sigma FP. right ??/ THats an amazing camera and of course the man behind the camera is everything in cinematography
It really does feel like that sometimes, watching light bounce on a familiar object in different times of day. Definitely more interesting than watching grass grow
I think what amaze me more is how brilliantly you expose your footage in each scenarios. I, for one, have difficulty to balance the shadows and highlight indoor and outdoor using my eyes when exposing using LOG. What did you use to make it up? Do you use false colour or any trick regarding this? I also need to remove my bad habit of trying to expose details in every scene. As you said, sometimes, sillhouettes can enhance the image cinematically.
The sigma FP shoots cdng raw so it’s not log, if your camera allows it I’d suggest you use a monitoring lut while filming to help you out. However the most important exposure tool for me is false color, which I implement to prevent clipping of highlights. It’s okay to have crushed blacks but clipped highlights are more distracting. If you underexpose your image, you may find that you have a better starting point and contrast in your grading process. That being said, the sigma FP is an excelllent underexpose camera, but I would not want to underexpose with some cameras like the blackmagic as it is very noisy.
@@cleverghostchili I see. I didn't think of underexposing the image. I always thought that it would be harder to get back some details in the post-grading. But I guess it will focus you more on the final look. Not on tiny little details. Great advice. Thank you. I will keep it in mind.
It is hard to get detail back sometimes, but depending on the situation particularly backlit scenes, you dont need to and just have black silhouettes. Best of luck, happy shooting!@@ANRALOGI
Magical!!! These days there is a wave of Filmmaking Videos/Tutorials due to cinema cameras being budget friendly. And in those videos they focus on selling only 2 things the Camera and the other thing is Lighting. It feels weird, right? This is what feels like fresh air in the domain.
Natural light isn’t really profitable. Creators need to get paid as at the end of the day it’s hard to make this craft sustainable otherwise, I rarely hate the player
@@cleverghostchili I mean Pushing a narrative for Beginners who are shooting short films on ultra low budget and who see these creators as their Idols/Mentors. They even clickbait with thumbnails and titles mentioning before mentioned topics. This is what I'm concerned about.
@@thisisAmitPatil gotcha, I think camera and lighting are really all you need to start going, I have always been barebones minimalistic! Less interference between you and the frame
@@cleverghostchili Yes Exactly! As a novice filmmaker operating on a shoestring (~500$) budget, I recognize my constraints, prohibiting me from splurging on studios or elaborate sets. My filming canvas comprises public spaces-streets, cafes-employing guerrilla filmmaking tactics. While I occasionally secure unrestricted locations, reserved for pivotal shots, the techniques from your insightful video become indispensable for the essential, budget-friendly scenes. Genuine contributors like you, avoiding clickbait and truly practicing what they preach, are pivotal in fostering a community of authentic guidance. Love You Team 'Ghost Chili'.
i have a tutorial on how i do a basic grade with the FP, which should get you to around 80% of the way here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1JNb4TsCA2w.html For the title scenes, ambient lighting section I used CleverLUTs, which I've made free for download for the moment, can download in the discord
You make the Sigma FP dance without stabilisation - is that particularly difficult. Is the image out of the FP sensor worth it compared to a S5ii (I know the usual stupid questions) just your work looks amazing :))
@@888berg for image fidelity yes, but your buy a s5ii for the convenience and tools not for its image quality. The FP has more contrast and dimensionality in its images like a Red, but it’s a pain to use in many cases. There’s no stabilization so you have to find ways to get stable footage. For this video I used a cine sack for the majority of shots
The reason why the super35 in the FP is sharper than the full frame is that when you are shooting the entire sensor it gives you a 6K oversample and with that comes a little softness. Instead, shooting super35 means that the 4K is a 1:1 readout, so you have a real 4K instead of an oversampled image and the result is sharper than the full frame.
In times of people generally thinking / believing that buying more / new gear improves their work (which is obviously not the case per-se) it need a reminder, that usually all you need is THERE. Shooting an epic video with your phone is totally possible, when the scene and the light are right!
Hi, the chapter scenes use my CleverLUTs and some interior scenes, the rest are all rec709. I have a colorgrading guide with the sigma FP where I go into more detail. Contrast ratio is high so you have to do a reverse s curve or lift your mid tones
I haven't! I normally prefer wider focal lengths, I'm definitely consider one of the milvus lenses, wish there was one more Otus focal length between 28 and 55
@@cleverghostchili Handled focusing with the Otus 85 is much more difficult than with the 55. The focusing range on the 55 was already longer than the 28, but with the 85 it's enormous. Handled focusing becomes almost impossible.
Well I don’t own the fpl but the fpl has olpf, better AF, more megapixels and better lowlight in certain conditions. They still both suffer from similar problems like banding. It’s still better for photography but you have to consider whether those advantages are relevant to you, and if so should you just end up getting a better dedicated photography camera. Taking photos with the sigma can be frustrating because you can’t monitor exposure accurately often underexposing. Exposure is extremely flexible in post, but when shooting it can be hard to see focus or minute details. Color science is fantastic on this camera, very accurate contrast starting point
Mate, firstly I love your channel and content! I have to say that the music you make is exactly what I'm looking for on music licensing sites but can never, ever find it. Do you license your music or is there a way I could use it in my wedding videos / social? Thanks!
Hi there, I’ve have made my music available as a Creative Commons license, so you can only use it with non commercial work like RU-vid as long as you credit me, but if you want to monetize content with the music we can work something out in DMs. The library is constantly expanding, you can find more info in the description
