Quick question I'm going to purchase the xh2s as a gimbal cam but with a speed booster what would a 35mm equivalent be on the fuji. I have a monster and Komodo x I will be matching it to.
@@MonstroInLA so with the metabones .71x there would be still be a tiny crop short of full frame, so a typical 35mm full frame lens on a full frame sensor would look like a 37mm on the speed booster Fuji. Hope that’s the answer you’re looking for
Thanks to this video, I ordered one and have been using it for the past week on my X-T50. It's slim and lightweight design makes me want to carry the camera everywhere. As a beginner, it puts less pressure on me to take the perfect shot so I can focus more on composition.
hey thanks! i will also make some free rec709 conversion to optimize the luts, currently available on discord, though i've only made one for the sigma fp so far. Blackmagic and Sony next
God damnit, what a great video. I'm about to do my first low budget short film, and I'm gonna rent some cinema lenses. My options are between Zeiss or Rokinon, but this video helped me a lot with the choice. New sub from Venezuela!!
Not really a fair comparison with the zeiss because those are different focal lengths and different price points, but I'm aware that Fuji doesn't have a 28mm alternative... I also get what you're saying about 3d pop on Zeiss, but it would be interesting to see how the 28mm compares to the same focal length lenses, because part of that background separation is affected by the focal length. The background objects will always look different if you compare 33mm vs 28mm, even if both lenses are from the same brand. I also think that Viltrox 27mm f1.2 would be quite close to Zeiss for much cheaper so that comparison would be nice to see.
It's been many years now ... well over a decade ... since I was trading interesting tales of recent exploits while playing some what-have-you-been-up-to catch-up with Bob Primes (Robert Primes, ASC), and he just dropped a rather unspectacular bit of insight as mere trivia, from the inside of the "industry" on me, which went off in my head like a bomb. In 35mm photography my penchant had come to focus on Nikon optics, while I upheld Zeiss as something of a zenith for Cinematography. But in neither case was I impressed of an opinion that either necessarily made "the best" lenses (knowing damned well that where Nikon did not have a strong, if any, product line in cameras, such as medium & large format or small rangefinders, there was "glass" made by [other companies] that was often on a whole other level, and the same observation & experience with cinema lenses reciprocated outside of the mainstream realm centered around Super 35) - it was merely where my tastes and preferences had found a strongest sense of affinity. I was never one who could be influenced by Brand or popular opinion, beyond a willingness to give something a try. As it happened, both Nikon and Zeizz had a commonality which I knew absolutely nothing of, until that conversation turned to swapping some recent experiences with lenses, and where my centrist tendency which pulled me toward a benchmark preference for Nikon & Zeiss for 35mm & Super 35 (respectively), which Bob just added in as nothing much more than an interesting anecdote (from his perspective), that went off like a bomb (in mine); a large percentage, if not the majority, of the highest quality lenses from both Zeiss and Nikon were actually made by the same company. Fuji.
This camera does not suffer from IR pollution, any ND can cause it not just internal NDs. That was a complete false statement. We need to keep disinformation at a minimum. Great video though💪🏽
Great reflections on a complex mix of issues here. I tend to agree wider formats have a more psychologically immersive effect on me. But less so on smaller device screens, where using the whole real estate available is more important than ratio IMO: so on devices, another vote here for 2:1.
I agree with your arguments which is why I prefer 2.39 as my Xperia 10 phone has 1:2.33 display. BTW it is a great AR for a smartphone: it accommodates more text vertically while the narrow proportion makes it feel like a considerably smaller device in hand.
@@omichalek Now you mention it, I can see that 1:2+ ARs make a lot of sense for reading landscape - I have an older iPhone, and dont tend to update unless there's a feature I want... now you've given me a reason to upgrade LOL!
What's most important is within the 4 sides of this box. Would cinema be different if film had a different shape back in the day? BTW was this shot on the sigma fp? If so, these are beautiful images👍
It really depends on what you want to shoot. I think some of these formats are quirkier than others, and if you want really dramatic closeups these taller frames are much more immersive. I also want to shoot more of these taller formats
I think i still have a ways to go, but I can feel I am developing certain muscle memory for certain shots. Hope I can keep developing it, glad youre enjoying the ride
More videos please!! And do you still use the BMCC6k? I just bought one and i'm considering the Zeiss Milvus lenses, but i'm not that sure. Your content is the only one that uses the BMCC6k and Milvus/Otus lenses in a cinematic way. I'll love to see more of that. I watched all your videos. Maybe you could review more lenses, like budget anamorphic ones, like the Sirui Saturn or Blazars. I'm considering the Nisi's Athenas but they lack a lot of character in my opinion. Do you use mist filters or vnds?
Next video has considerable bmcc6k and milvus footage, i would say the image on the blackmagic is sharper, I prefer the softer Otus over sharper milvus with that combination, you will be able to judge for yourself. I buy all of my gear so far so I normally wouldn’t buy a lens unless it was very compelling. Nisi Athena are considerably more boring than Zeiss imo. Dzo Arles are very good. I don’t use mist filters, I use a Nisi vnd
@@cleverghostchili Yeah! I Can't wait for that video. I bought the BMCC because they made a 40% disccount on the camera. I want to focus on cinematography only. But i don't know which lenses should i pick first, i cannot even decide between spherical and anamorphic yet. I can't afford the ottus, so the milvus seem very compelling, but i doubt of its performance on high movement scenes, i'm worried about the focus breathing and the lack of versatility. Also the mounting. Do you know about other alternative that looks like the milvus/ottus? And what are you thoughts on the anamorphic look?
@@aumon you can check out my zeiss otus 55 video for more detailed thoughts, but i will say i do like anamorphics like ALFA for their wide 2x and waterfall bokeh. I prefer spherical for their precision and flexibility. You dont always want 2.39 especially for commercial work. Milvus are my recommended value lens, you can also consider DZO, Sigma art, Canon or Nikon lenses. Otherwise you have vintage glass, which becomes subjectively characterful. EF is a fine mount, nearly every camera can adapt for EF just like PL.
Dude can you just make a short film already? You're really good at this. PS. I see you're using the XH2s. Looks much better than I thought. Is it supported in ACES?
this video was completely shot on the Sigma FP, I use fujifilm only for photography now, but i will revisit in the summer when flog2 is supported natively in Davinci. I personally think fujifilm is the best camera when it comes to film emulation particularly kodak and fujifilm film stocks. I think in the summer there could be ACES support, need to wait for the update
No way 😂 I really thought it was the xh2s. You manage to make both cameras look almost equally good Is it just me or does the sigma fp have dynamic range comparable to the full frame sonys?
@@shueibdahir That's likely more the Zeiss Otus look, which i use for all my cameras. I put the technical specs at the end of the video. You know, the dynamic range feels oddly good, but all test results say it's like 12 or 12.5 stops. I can't say for certain, but it feels like 13 or maybe more, it's very impressive
@@cleverghostchili I have a slight suspicion it's a bit over 13 stops total with 11 being somewhat clean. By the way how's the sigma in dc crop mode? Does the lowlight capability become worse with crop sensor lenses? I might buy it within the next 6 lonths
@@shueibdahir It is sharper as it is 1:1 pixel readout. To be honest, I think i prefer the softer rendering of full frame, which has some downsampling going on, but looks great. I'm not sure, but I think the lowlight capabilties should be similar, it depends on the glass, t1.4 is t1.4 right
