Cinematic Look: Canon 600D (Rebel T3i) 

I was stunned by the quality.. then I realized I was watching on 360p. This camera is amazing

When I was researching what DSLR I wanted to buy a guy at Bedt Buy reccomend the T3i because Canon did video better than Nikon. This was back in 2011. So I put in tons of research and looked up DSLR films on you tube and this was one of the first videos I ever saw. That was back under a diffrent channel than this one. I'm glad I found this video again. I now have a Canon 90D. But I've fallen into a creative rut. So sometimes you need to start over by watching what inspired you in the first place. Alot of my videos on this channel were shot with my T3i. I bought my T3i in January 2012. Bought my 90D in Jsnuary 2020. Passed down my T3i to my daughter to use.

@vim92 Yes it is. You go to the movie mode, press the Menu button and it displays video settings, there is an option AutoFOCUS with shutter button or something like that and its set to DISABLE. Enable it and record the movie, press the shutter button halfway down n it will autofocus. P.S: Try using manual focusing as AF is noisy when recording sound and might also vary the exposure too

share a glimpse of the raw footage pls. This is by far the best I have seen from a t2i/t3i.

I'm not totally sure what lens he used, but you could get a very similar look with the 50mm lens series. My personal favorite of the 50mm's is the Cannon 50mm f/1.8 II. It's cheap, gets a good depth of field, and works well in low light. It is a prime lens, so you can't zoom, and there isn't any image stabilization, but I never usually use those functions because I have a camera stabilizer, and I rarely use zoom. He has some After Effects templates for color correction on his website as well.

@vim92 Yes - but you need to install an an-on to the firmware. Magic Lantern is such a project. The autofocus algorithm moves the focus in small steps - around 5 steps a second. This makes some ticking so an external mic should be used. I use a zoom H1 audio recorder, which is cheap and also works as a good microphone.

@miglioemi I think they are referring to the 24 frames per second instead of 30 which is usually the "cinematic look".

We were in the forest to shoot a video with a nice cinematic look. This test video was shot with a Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i) at 1920x1080 with 24p. Lens: Canon 50mm f/1.8 Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Color corrected in Adobe After Effects CS4

@OfficialCypherSon I looked at both also. I compared video that a friend had shot on both cameras of the same subject. The footage looked identical, and I do mean IDENTICAL. I bought the T3i the next day and am absolutely loving it!!! With the money I saved not buying the 5D mk2, I invested in better lenses for the T3i. I also picked up a RODE videomic for the camera for recording purposes. It's much better than the body mounted mic that comes with these cameras standard.

@nicolaisidek I've been using the Sandisk Extreme SDHCI C10 card in both 16gb and 32gb. These are rated for HD video as well as being able to record some of the footage being shot on the new 3D cameras from Panasonic. I've shot a music video and some weddings with them and they've worked great.

@Pulkadrage .... good lord. the Canon 550D IS the Rebel T2i. Ove in America its more commonly known as the "Rebel Series", because for some reason american's are obsessed with making things just a little bit different than the rest of the world. Canon EOS 550D AKA Rebel T2i, the slightly more upgraded verion is the Canon EOS Rebel T3i OR the 600D

@DBelleMusic I would personally say that the T3i is better. They will produce the same quality pictures and video, but the T3i has a few more features. The main one that I like for video is the tilting screen, comes in handy a hell of a lot :)

@FenchelJanisch Thats deceiving, it records at 1080p for 12 min clips, 720p for 18 min clips and the one you stated is for VGA 640x480. All clips are a max file size of 4gb because they still use the FAT32 file system, which can only recognise 4gb.

My MVI files keep getting noise after I film with my canon 600d. How did you reduce the noise?

@RTCK562 No but it was shot with a $100 prime lense which is very impressive.

I was considering a canon t3i over the t2i. but video seems to be exactly the same for both cameras. the swiveling panel wasnt enough to do the upgrade since i'll be using an external monitor. your footage is fantastic, btw.

color correction 24p letterboxing and a large iris lens with a medium focal length (probably around 50mm) my guess anyway.

You can use the digital zoom which is awesome. Loses some quality at 10x..5x is nice.

I have an issue with the video on the Canon 600d when I shot in 720p: the thin lines look like a saw and there is an strange color glitch too. how'd you get the video into premiere pro without it looking a little distorted? did you capture it or take it from the sd card? and what settings in premiere did you use?

Hey! Is there a way to make the video have an equal focus throughout? Instead of focusing on one thing For example, in a shot with flowers in the foreground and hills in the background, I can only work out how to film one being in focus and one being out. Is there any way to change it so that the there is no focus at all? And so that the quality is equal throughout? I've tried everything, from autofocus to manual focus and just can't get it, please help!

dude how do you get yours to look so good all the others look differant. did you just simply put on 24fps and then color correct it in aftereffects or did you do something differant?

@nicolaisidek Sorry, I'm having trouble getting these responses to post. For me, the video capabilities are what helped me make up my mind. The T3i gives more manual controls for video work than the Nikon does. There is a good review that goes into far more detail between the two than I can here. Check out

I still wonder, did Canon finally put Auto-auto focus on this camera? I mean, Auto focus that doesn't require you to hold down the shutter button half way for your entire clip.

Stunning video. But all the test clips I found on You tube have music on the soundtrack - which is nice - but how is the 600D sound? Are the built in mics stereo and are theyany good?

What program do you use to edit, a lot of people just aren't using the right programs and render settings, I use adobe premiere with my new T3i and although I haven't uploaded anything to youtube with it (just got it today) rendering with premiere pro cs5.5 or higher really makes it look great
