To sum up, D5100 a bit better for photo, 600D way better for video (mainly because you have full manual on the Canon and the Nikon is only fully automatic)
Se poate face film cu ele? Da, cu obiective bune si accesorii corespunzatoare (mai greu cu Nikonul fara reglaje manuale). Merita banii? Da -- mai ales Canon-ul pentru filmare. Calitatea imaginii? Buna, atat la foto cat si la video, mai ales la iso sub 1000.
Pretul este similar, calitatea imaginii este cam la fel, obiectivul de kit este cam la fel de slab, cand ne uitam pe fisa tehnica in mare parca este dat copy-paste, este greu de gasit ceva care sa incline balanta intre cele doua camere. Ne intoarcem in mare la preferintele de brand, la argumente de gama de accesorii si periferice.
La foto batalia este stransa si balanta se inclina usor spre Nikon.
La video HD insa, castigatorul este clar Canon, din doua motive simple: control manual complet (video si audio) si mult mai usor de reglat (buton Q menu, buton iso, etc). Daca ar fi avut si o baterie mai mare, 60D era amenintat serios. Nikon a incarcat acest mic aparat cu o multime de functii pe care nimeni care se ia in serios nu le-ar folosi (gen filtre creative) si a ingropat reglajele in meniu.
Autofocusul este inutilizabil, util poate doar in vacanta la mare cu focusul pe orizont, dar si acolo cred ca l-ar pierde; pentru video serios, focalizarea manuala ramane de baza.
Iar faptul ca desi poti filma in orice mod, dar de fapt chiar si in modul M esti de fapt tot pe auto si faci diverse reglaje, dar de fapt nu se intampla nimic pare o gluma seaca.
Pe scurt, desi in mare sunt la fel, diferenta se poate rezuma simplu: Canon 600D -- simplu si de bun simt, Nikon D5100 -- multe chestii inutile si omite esentialul.

Местами Canon 600D лучше, а местами Nikon D5100 выигрывает. Так что и не скажешь какой из них лучше.

I went out and tried both cameras. Honestly, I really like the D5100 better. It feels very nice in my hand, the auto focusing system works great, and its just more useful in terms of effects and features.

Using the Nikon with AE lock(Set AE-L/AF-L to AE lock (Hold)) Set Fn Button to Control ISO Sensitivity, Create (and Save) a Limited-Processing Picture Settings Profile, Set Auto Focus Mode to AF-S or use manual focus and make use of a loupe or viewfinder attachment, gives a far more cinematic quality to the movie when you use an shutter speed that is 1/2xfps of the fps (1/60th sec for 30fps) than the Canon can, and the Nikon will easily fit the best glass in the world, the Nikor lenses. If you want the best looking most film like movies, the Nikon is the hands-down winner.

Although I love both brands, I am a Canon shooter. The video is much better on the Canon, and to be quite honest, the photos from the T3i/600D are just fine. It was a great first DSLR. That being said, if you are new to the DSLR world and want to just take photos and not much video, then the D5100 makes a lot of sense as well. When it comes down to it, this wont be your last camera body if you are serious about this, and the thing that is most important is investing in good glass.

I've been using both the EOS 600D and the D5200 for some time now and I feel like the color reproduction and exposure is just a tad bit better on Canon. However, Nikon has better detailing and low light performance with less noise in pictures. I know Nikon has the Picture control settings and I have been trying to adjust them to match the color reproduction on the 600D but I haven't really found success yet. Photos taken with the D5200 are a little less saturated which can ofcourse be corrected inside the camera or using the computer. It can even be pushed up a notch in the default picture control settings. All in all, I love my D5200 but I hate that the photos look just a little better on the EOS 600D.

Absolutely the Nikon D5100. Because much better in terms of focus and in terms of video quality. Nikon is more ahead.

You can switch between auto and manual on the lens that comes with the camera and also on most other nikkor lenses. I love manual focus filming with my d5100 :)

I think nikons shoots better DAYTIME video than the 600D..but the NIGHT TIME video from the 600D is better then the Nikon..

Doesn't really matter, unless you're planning of filming vblogs under low light, the you should go for the Canon which is a little tiny bit more expensive. Both of them have mono integrated microphones but the sound magically turns stereo if you attach an external mic I guess :D Oh, and get a decent lens. around 35 to 55mm for best for vblogging. If you want the background to be sexy and blurred out, get a lens with a big apperture(small F number). or something..

@iSOBigD By the way, you can however start recording on the D5100 then hold the auto exposure lock button to keep it from changing ISO and shutter speed while recording, but it's a work-around, you really should have the option of adjusting those before and during recording.

I would chose nikon for the af-f , canon is a manual video tool. Ive worked a lot on the canon 600d and i hate the metering, and the lack of full servo af, also the fact that you can control aperture and shutter speed in video mode means nothing, the buttons and dials make a lot of noise that will definitely be recorded and don't expect you can get a good mic for under 300 $ either. The canon has a lot less dynamic range and that for me settles it.

Both similar. However the extra tools on the Nikon are available in most editing programs. In terms of footage quality the Canon is much better in low light as it has a higher ISO. However the 100d which has recently come out has everything the 600d has as well as more focus points while filming, it is also smaller and much lighter. So i would recommend the Cannon 100D

Imi cer scuze ca intervin, dar incerc sa imi dau si eu cu parerea. Eu am un Canon 550D, mi-am luat pt zoom un obiectiv 70-200 f2.8, ai si lumina buna si zoom ok. Obiectivul e mult mai important decat body-ul. Obiectivu 18-55mm cu care vin in general DSLR-urile is mai mult de jucarie, uni fotografi le zic capace de aparat :P Deci in concluzie, poti avea un DSLR cu zoom, daca iti achizitionezi un alt obiectiv nu cel standard. Toate cele bune.

In good light conditions, both are doing a really good job. For low light conditions, canon is easier to have better results, but if you really know how to use your nikon, you will also get good results. Anyway, both cameras are really good. I am NIKON!

D5100 is great camera its already 1 year and 8 months I'm using my DSLR-D5100 we both enjoying at the same time from place to place... thanks for Nikon....

I think D5100 is a good one but with the 18-105 lens not the standard one.

yes true. canon does have a focus motor so that the older lenses can be used. unfortunately canon cant auto focus on video (except the 650D) but Nikon do have cameras which do have a focus motor in built. eg - D90 D7000, D300, D200 and so on :)

D5100 does not have manual settings even with trick! just two things: -Go to A mode (aperture priority) , hold the button that you set for aperture in M mode and you can up/down exposure -(2) you can push the Ae-lock button and camera doesn`t change exposure

to avoid the exposure change on the nikon d5100 you simply use the exposure lock button..

deci eu locuiesc in austria, pretul ar fi ceva intre 500-600€. precizez ca nu am experienta in fotografie sau facut videouri, deci ar fi fain o camera care e mai simpla ceva genul pt incepatori, dar totusi cu o calitate buna pt clipuri low budget. sorry daca pun intrebari stupide, dar chiar nu ma cunosc in domeniul acesta. mersi pt raspuns :)

@kzdz I think that was just the aperture. in the 600d clip, the background was in focus also but in the d5100 clip, the background was blurred giving it that dreamy look.

D5100 is also manual for video but you have to set the preferences before you swich to liveview... plus better images... I'll go for the D5100

@QuatroFDS T3i should be better since it has more manual controls for shooting video. Things like ISO and exposure locking are important for movies so it should be the better choice.

da..binen-teles, ca trebuie un alt obiectiv..si nu cel standard...caci poate ajunge la un pret colosalde exemplu si pana la peste 2000 euro..dar si mai mult..dar oricum mersi pentru raspuns...sunt nebun dupa aparatura electronika..si aparate ce apar pe piata..multumesc..

d5100 megre la video cu modurile semi automate (PSA),dar seteaza isoul automat si timpul de exp.(sau diafragma in S si P) dar isoul automat poate fi limitat de tine la valori intre 200 si 6400 si atunci vei avea un control mai bun al expunerii.La calitatea imaginii este mult peste canon, si daca nu vrei sa faci doar video cam pentru orice alceva nikon e peste 600d ule asta.

cea care iti place ... si depinde si de oferta ... avand in verede ca ambele sunt entry level nu exceleaza prea mult la capitolu video ,dar canon e putin peste , dpdv al fotografiilor mergi linistit pe nikon , dar daca nu te-au deranjat diferentele din clipul de mai sus , inseamna ca si nikonu-l isi face treaba bine la capitolul video (pentru tine)...

I understood that the Nikon handles image noise better, but at the beginning of the comparison, when both are shooting low light scenes, the image of the Nikon looks horrible. Canon did that a lot better.

salut; orice microfon de pe orice camera pusa pe auto intr-o camera cu asa zisa liniste, scoate un fasait; orice AGC (auto gain control) asta face, ea sunetul cel mai tare si il normalizeaza... deci daca e un sunet foarte fin il va transforma in fasait

In interface it doesn't matter much, both these entry camera's have an easy user interface. Best is to go to a store where you can hold them and feel the button layouts, whichever feels best is the one you should get, it's that easy.

"Nikon is better!" "Canon is better!" They're both great. Some people prefer one, others may prefer the other... But overall, they both are pretty fucking fantastic, ok? I hate all this rivalry between the two.... Maybe that's just me.

The Nikon has a bigger sensor so high ISO picture quality is noticeably better than the T3i's, however, it'll choose the ISO value automatically for video, which isn't great for low light situations (since it'll jump to 1600 or more). If you're mainly using it for pictures though, the D5100 is cheaper and better. My Sony XR500V has much better video quality in low light conditions, but I need to use the D5100 for pictures. During the day, the Nikon should be as good or better than the T3i.

Nu regret ca mi-am luat canonul. Desi obiectivele de Nikon sunt mai ieftine si mai bune (nu vorbim de L desigur). Dar controlul manual in timpul filmului? Sa fim seriosi. Cind invarti de rotita aia ca sa schimbi ISO sau timp de expunere sau diafragma se zguduie imaginea din toate incheieturile. Nu ai cum sa folosesti un film de genu asta decit daca ai aparatul legat fedeles de ceva Extrem De Greu. Observ line skipping mai redus la Canon. Sa fie oare procesorul mai rapid? :D

Hmm, not sure why you say the canon is better for video. Your shots show that nikon does a better job at focusing and selecting the correct values. The nikon shots had better saturation and light. At least that is what it looked like to me.

daca nu utilizezi obietive tele si nu te deranjeaza lipsa vizorului optic iti recomand c u caldura sony NEX5N.AU CEL mai bun senzor crop de pe piata la semnal/zgomot la iso mare si deasemenea ofera niste culori mirifice,cat despre obiectivul 18 55 kit e zeiss metal solid,recomand .

I Choose my T3i because of the Video. But I'm also a still photographer. I guess you could say I'm 50/50 on both now. So the Better Canon Video was a no brainer. Plus I still get Excellent Portrait photography from the Canon too.

Da, si mie imi plac in general, dar aparatele foto in mod special deoarece ma ocup de fotografie si cateodata mai lucrez si la cate un videoclip. O mare parte din videoclipurile pe care le vedem in ziua de azi la TV sunt facute cu aparate DSLR :) deci nu ai nevoie neaparat de o camera video pentru filmari de calitate.

Of course the noise depends on your own control of the ISO settings, You shouldn't use higher ISO than 1600 or it will become noisy, and of course if you have an aperture of 5.6 it will be darker than if you have a f 1.4, Nikon is really good managing noise, but as I always say, "It's not the camera, the important one is the photographer".

Nikon D5100 has image ratio 3:2 whereas Canon EOS 600D has 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 If you want to make video with Nikon pictures you'll have black sides because you have no other options. Having full manual control in video mode in 600D umm yeah it is very important to many users (video makers). Can't wait to get Canon EOS 600D.

yes indeed and for the ppl that can't afford to buy a video camera with decent video settings there are cameras such as great settings as the Nikon D5000 o superiors DSLR that can make really good videos

i can see many reviewers never mention about camera video framerate cause most of cases they dont care about video framerate but today framerate is important making video higher FPS or frame per second delivers very dramatic beautiful scene of slowmotion GoPro3 is one of those awesome camera the GP3 Black Edition can go whopping up to 240fps if you love creating awesome slowmo video you probably go with higher fps so 600D can do 60fps while D5100 30fos only you might change your mind like me..

Photo's: Nikon , filming: Canon , people claiming the Nikon is good at movies are MAD. Canon has a dedicated movie mode that allows you to alter the settings, all you can do on these Nikon models is use auto-settings, and that sucks bad-time. I can know, I own a D5000. Love it for photo's, hate it for filming.
