Very well done. Did you get your job offer from Apple marketing yet? If you must manually select your focus point as you shoot most of the time then you might as well shoot 4k60. Looks like the best cinematic mode can do is to track the subject as they move in the frame. Switching subjects needs much more work, but like the portrait mode, in possible years in the future this actually be good.

Thank you for this video. I see cinematic video on iphone for something that you use on your vacation videos. As then it wouldn't matter if it's not perfect. I do think that Apple did a Samsung with this -> Overpromising on a gimmick. Let's hope that they can make it better as they did with the portrait mode. I wouldn't even mind if they did 720p 24fps but that the result would be almost perfect. Does cinematic even work with an ND filter?

Shifting white white balance is a big problem. Can you help cinematic mode by tapping to focus or does that not work or defeats the object?

That’s such a shame because that was absolutely brilliant. So well shot and composed. I was really surprised how good the actor was too. I was surprised by the quality of the entire thing overall if I’m honest. Was really clear to see where the technology was failing you which is a real shame because the rest of the footage looked great.

I wish there was a way to set the strength of the artificial bokeh. I think it's too strong and is an immediate tell that it's “cinematic mode”.

I do get your point, and Apple’s promise to change the language of cinematography may be a bit overhyped. However, if you don’t accept that promise as a finished product in the here and now, but as a promise for what’s possible… maybe even inevitable… for IPhone video technology in the short term, then Apple’s promise might not be that farfetched. It doesn’t seem all that long ago that Apple’s promise to eclipse amateur enthusiast cameras with just a small sensor and a tiny lens seemed like hyperbole. But here we are. I wonder how relevant your remarks will seem five years from now? Might the IPhone 13 Pro then be seen as the beginning moment of an accepted fact.
