I’m so happy to be that 1% who stays until the very end. An infinite amount of thanks to you Patrick for sharing your insight and knowledge with us. You’ve helped so many people and personally, your videos have stepped my cinematography game up more than school ever could. Every time I step on set, my confidence grows knowing I learned what to do and (in ways more importantly) what not to do, from you.

Wandering DP lives in Australia confirmed? Maybe this is a revelation just for me lol. As always, very appreciative of these breakdowns. This one for me is showing the importance of good production design to accompany your lighting. Not doing the French over really needed that little extra help from the blue walls and hot lamp. Gotta keep on the same page with the Production Designer as the DP.

Came here for window exposure and was immediately drawn to your lighting setup on your talking shot, could you ever do a quick video explaining that setup? New subscriber here, love all of your insight! Thank you!

If you're out in the real world you could also ND gel the windows or put a scrim net on the outside of the windows to lower the exposure. if its big boy budget and you're on a sound stage that exterior is usually a fake backdrop using a canvas which has lights hitting it, which would be dimmable anyways.

Hi sir, not sure if this will comment will get looked at but firstly a huge thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. As a 1st Ac from South Africa I can tell you that many dops this side speak well of you and your channel. I also would like to ask what the film industry in Australia is like? Is there a need for technicians? I have family there and might consider the move, any advice you have for me will help me tons 🙏✨

I'm not sure what to take away from this one. I guess it's a mixture of when you have great locations or set designs you can't mess up too badly and it's amazing how easily you can fix distracting noise in your audio...

Hi Patryk, what gives the real cinema look to an image, I have seen replications of exact lighting from feature films into student frames, correct exposure etc, so why do things still have that student look or non feature look. Is it grading? Is it post additions?

But in this scenario going over the shoulder we would be looking at those blown out windows? Wouldn't that be abit distracting?
@flochfitness
@flochfitness 5 месяцев назад
I don’t believe so. Over the shoulder would be probably looking at the corner of the room. Maybe you would keep a slight amount of the window in to create motivation

French over , from films like Breathless , French new wave and all that , shooting people in cars , they didn't have time / money for car rigs so had to be in the back seat . Like any over the shoulder but from behind . I tell the wife this too .

Hi, can u pls explain me why r u running this RU-vid channel? Is it a way to make money or just a passion project? Do your main projects (commercials, etc) bring u enough money or u have to hassle all the time and invent new ways of making money? No offense, I really like your content. Im a beginner-cinematographer, and im interesting if it’s possible for cinematographer to live a decent life without TikTok,RU-vid and other stuff?

Crikey I never knew only 1 percent of us stuck to the end. I think fixating on mowing your lawn constantly is what happens when you get bored in life. Maybe he hates the wife.

I appreciate the time you put into these. I have been doing my best to absorb and recognise/remember tidbits of goodness as much as possible. Every time I am on a big budget set, I have been getting better at really paying attention to what and how light is used. The way that I see directional placement for objects that would be giving off light is quite helpful to me. As a still photographer I some times take liberties for effect but but for the most part I respect the rules hehehe @@wanderingdp

Invite the neighbor to discuss his favorite films on camera and then proceed to list all the reasons why he has bad taste, even if it rocks. But give him cookies. 1% t-shirts incoming, btw?! Food for thought, mister P.

@alexalexis7899
@alexalexis7899 5 месяцев назад
@@wanderingdp I’d definitely order more than one. On a different topic: would it work for you to talk about specific difficult instances where the shot that was shot listed/ storyboarded could not be accomplished, either due to practicality, time or not working dramatically, and how you helped solve it with the director? Would you be able to use footage from those projects?
