I love the way your smile just blooms on your face as start playing your drum!! You are an exceptional talent and delight to watch and listen to. Thanks!!
I had the pleasure of Ronan's company just a few days ago, an absolute gentleman and one of the most important musicians the country has ever produced. Elemental, raw genius and a voice from another time and dimension.
Great to see how you make the adjustments to them i neve thought about doing that to the plastic brush i have they are very heavy to play with the plastic covers in the handles lovely sound though. Like you i steered away from the metal ones before i punctured the skin. Thanks for sharing.
Ar fheabhas ! My partner recently got me a seamus o kane for my birthday and this video has inspired me to spend every spare minute on looking and making my own sticks now !
Brilliant ronan you are the first person I've seen using the pipes at the back of the bodhran at a gig in dolans limerick in 2002 I always enjoy watching you playing bodhran thank you for the great nights of music hup hup from limerick 💯🙏🙏👏
You know this guy is legit old-school when he starts talkin' inches and linseed oil. This is the second video of his I've clicked on; the first one (his hand-warmups video) blew my mind, and I was immediately wondering what's different about this bodhran player.
Yesss, I also made drumsticks like that and experimenting as well. Comfort to see you do that, as I admire your style. 😅 I love to see you share your Love for the Bodhran with the world. You're amazingly authentic. Thank you for being you. Thank You so much.
Hola Rónán Ó Snodaigh, normalmente la gente cuando escucha a los musicos se centran en el sonido , en la voz . Servidor , personalmente , lo que sintio fue el sonido de tu alma . ( Normally when people listen to musicians they focus on the sound, on the voice. Servant, personally, what he felt was the sound of your soul . Thanks for the lesson & God Bless you , Rónán Ó Snodaigh .
Slàinte Mhaith Rónán. My favourite stick at the moment is an old, long handled, water colour paintbrush! I tape around the ferule to stop it scratching, but the combination brush sound and stick sound, sounds great to my ears.
Thanks for video, really enjoyed it. I've played for years, wrongly lol. So starting from scratch. But, I still got a good beat from it. Live in Scotland and Irish descent, so in the blood 😁 I'm making my own tippers too cause I'm skint haha, not really, just like wood. The crossbar at the back of my Bodhran is in the way, so looking into getting a good Bodhran without bar at back. Can you suggest a good one to last a lifetime. Cheers pal. 👍
You can just take the crossbar out aswell ...... i've been getting mine from Páraic McNeela recently ..... but there are a lot of great bodhrán makers .... i suppose just try them first and if ye like the sound and the feel of it , good chance you will lime it further down the road ... 🥁🎶
Great video, thanks for all your generosity Ronan! On an unrelated note would you be able to share the words to sliabh gan anam? I'd really love to see the poem in its original form!
I haven't really changed much , just left one half/verse out Níl á tuar Ach biseach raithnigh The rest is more or less as is . I have a photo of the lyrics in my phone ..... if ye send me a number or an email i could probably send it to ye ....
Brilliant video Ronan! I'm wondering what kind of wood the drum kit sticks you whittle down are? I've been trying to cut down a Hickory drum stick but the hardwood is pretty stubborn stuff. Cheers from Tasmania!
