I was in a band called Raven, we opened for Magic which was a band of former Circus members, at the Chesterland Hullabaloo 1974, and we ended our set with this cover.
Dave, I remember Raven. Also Magic, along with Eric Clapton did a album together......That band also had a former memeber of the Raspberries if I am not mistaken. Dan Hrdlicka was also in that band if My memory serves me correctly.
Chesterland and Mentor Hullabaloos were my camps back in the day. Anyone remember the Chagrin Amory? Lived in Aurora pretty much all my life. Old, but when I hear Circus, The Choir and the Baskerville Hounds I become 19 again. Late 60's and early 70's Cleveland was fun.
Loved this song back in the day. I was in the 5th grade and on the drill team at St. Patrick West Park school when we used this song for a baton twirling routine!
A little trivia for y'all. The studio where this was recorded did not have sort of tape echo so Phil had to do each of those Stop Stop Stop individually on separate tracks........how bout that
Now wncx switched over to grunge and alternative..... but the classic rock is still there ... sad. And the album pod is gone... its a sports betting talk station
Best tune to ever come out of Cleveland! Albeit, I was only in 4th Grade when this tune came out, I remember it WELL played on WIXY 1260 [Cleveland, Ohio] and CKLW 800 [Windsor, Ontario] AM radio. I also had older sibs who even saw Circus perform at a high school gym venue [St. Joe's]. Great tune! Oh, a couple of years ago, this "all white-haired" musician "Oldies" band played "Stop, Wait, Listen!" at a church carnival here in Cleveland. The did a great rendition too!
+Zander O YES! This is one of my favorites as well! I grew up on the West Side listening to WIXY during the day, well, at night they dropped wattage. OH WELL! But that's the way AM radio stations are even today. I was in the 8th grade at West Jr. High on 65th. Franklin when this came out. LOVED IT! Thanks for the comment and the memories. AWESOME!
Started following this band after Danny Hrdlika left. Used to go to the Agora Ballroom to see them. Was there the night Tommy Dobeck debuted with The Michael Stanley Band. Such memories. Seems like yesterday!
@@johnerwin9024 This was a "Progressive song", for many of the Pat Boone - Don Ho radio stations to play at the time. The Carpenters and Helen Ready and B J Thomas were the norm.... FM radio was an Infant at the time, and mainly Classical Music, Jazz, Swing, and ethnic music stations were on FM.
WOW, heard this song for the 1st time in >30yrs(WNCX Cleveland) the other nite when my wife and I were going out to eat, the memories it brought back just started flooding into my head! Anyone else remember the "Flying Machine" or "Friar Tucks" in Kent? What party bars those places were back in the day!
I saw Circus in the basement of a building of St. Anne's Church ( Cleveland Hts. ) in my freshman year of high school. Great song - have on my playlists !
OMG!!! i used to go to the Agora in Cleveland from College in Ashland every single Monday night to see Circus! Wish i knew what happened to their album, i had it...must have been snagged by a roommate :( LOVE Circus!!
Just heard this today researching all Cleveland peripheral Raspberries related music. This by far is the best I've heard. It could have been a hit here in Vancouver BC, good enough for a broader success.
Great song, would never have know these guys existed - except I was just at the Rainbow in LA and a commemorative record from them is on the wall on the upstairs dance floor
Too bad this song was only in the nineties in 1973 or '74...this Cleveland band was way underrated...I heard this song played on NCX by Stanley and thought it was cool right away...too bad I couldn't see them...I was only 7. :(
Dobeck and the Balzer brothers left for Michael Stanley and that killed Circus. My cousin Mick was also a member of the group. He tried a few more time with American Noise and on or two others. Nothing was happening. He got married, moved to North Carolin and put the guitars away. His son graduated from college last year.
+Dennyk Hudock WOW! Thanks for the comment and a bit of history. For some reasons that we don't know, this record and or the band didn't make it big, even though they had what it takes. TO ME, this song is one of my favorites of all time. It really takes me back to my Junior High days. Let your cousin know that there still those of us who ENJOY his work. Be Blessed.
Denny Huduck Maybe that's why I remember a band named Circus played an illegal bar in Carolina back in the late 70's. I've been trying to find them because I remember they gave a great performance. Wonder if it's the same band?
Sirrus Erie paid them about 100 dollars for 3 to 4 hrs.(That's 5 Members) the place was always packed no matter who was there. Eric Carmen always 'BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE' Many of the great ones started in CLEVELAND ( not PREDUDICE) if one was A.A. Black Detroit was the place for a good start. As all of them did, L.A. the angels - created the best garage bands.
I was living at 23203 Redfern RD Columbia station Oh when this was a big gigantic hit...circa 1972...Alias Smith and Jones (Peter Duele-Pete Duel) had been dead over a yr all ready....Dec.31 1971 Los Angeles California
I was born in St. Deaconus Hospital , December 14th, 1955 at 9:03 pm, in Cleveland OH it was a Wednesday. I like those calanders that can give you every date in modern history
Was one of the members in this band a luthier in his spare time? A guitar maker? My late sister said my late ex-brother in law's Flying V was made by one of the members in this band. RIP Laura and Jeff.
i saw them at chippewa ballroom in 73 along with bob seager system and a band that was the house band at the lions den in copley all for 50 cents. imagine that today they probaly want 100 dollars. later
I'm sure it was HEAVY! Now it can be replaced with a lighter waight keyboard that can provide the same sound. Plus much more! DJ's used to lug around boxes of LPs & 45s, now it's mostly MP3s on a laptop. How things change, but those classic tunes like this one are irreplaceable.
VERY TRUE, NOBODY COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH CHRIST THE LORD! MY PRAYER IS THAT EACH ONE OF THESE ROCKERS COMES TO KNOW HIM WHO DIED FOR US! AND THAT'S FOR ALL THOSE ON YOUTIBE! AMEN!
+Norman Vail True! Scripture tells us that Jesus is the only way, the truth and the light. Of this, there is no question. We also need to be Graceful as He is Graceful, Loving the sinner, but hating the sin. I AM HIS!
