Looks nice at first glance. Does it support nxos and VPC ? What about VXLans and EVPN ? And ios-xr too ? What about L2VPNs ? I am however annoyed about that 20 node limit again... it's why I moved to eveng while studying for my ccie, cause 20 nodes were just not enough...
Great video. Thanks. I note that the application now uses about 10% of the original idle memory. Are the images for devices, say NX-OS or IOS-XR needing less memory to run or is this still the same as before?
VIRL looks like so good, I'm studying for my CCIE Enterprise Infraestructure, I have never used VIRL because I use GNS3 for practice lab, I think GNS3 has more feature, in your opinion and experience, which is better?
One blurb that caught my attention was that they would not commit to keeping the IOS images available for separate download with 2.0. While it already violates their EULA, there are many people (not me) who have a VIRL subscription for the sole purpose of using the images for GNS3 or EVE-NG. I suspect there would be quite a few people who would not resubscribe if the images were not made available.
Good video and The VIRL2 environment is very versatile as the video understood. Your not need own virtual server environment . The only thing about how good the internet connection must be is that it can run smoothly in the VIRL 2 environment. little apologies my writing skill is not the best in foreign language.🤗
Will this replace the need for GNS3? For example will it have Network Automation containers and other appliances like GNS3 does, and can I use this instead when taking David Bombol courses?
Love it. ***The following was posted on the VIRL forum by Geoff Anderson (product manager) on 15 July 2019...*** "Hello, Product manager here. The release of 1.6 is in progress. The mechanics of getting it posted/live have become a bit more complex since the last release, but it is in flight, and should be posted shortly. As for the 2.0, that is nearing the early field trial. Announcements will be forthcoming in the not too distant future. The main impediment is that we are moving to a very different licensing mechanism, and once that is addressed, there will be rapid progress to a release." ***followed by...*** "I have to be somewhat vague, as there are some factors that may be out of our control to start the EFT. That said, the issues are primarily business related, and they are being addressed quickly. If I was a betting man, I would say that the formal notification for EFT is weeks away, and that full release will be roughly a quarter (3 months) later, to allow us to gather feedback and act on any major items." learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/135257
Can someone help me understand this? Basically what they are saying aside from all those automation things, is that the laptop/desktop i am using does not require as much RAM or CPU cores in order to run multiple devices? Because in GNS3, a single ISE appliance will already need 16gb of RAM in order to even start the appliance. If not, what do VIRL 2.0 do to help other than all the scripting and what not, which i think many network engineers are not as much interested in? (we just want simulation to work with lesser resources)
VIRL was a nightmare day one!!! it seems that they have finally updated some if not most of their stuff!!! FINALLY THE VIRL HAS COME BACK!!! TO SIMPLICITY!
Can the VIRL2 vIOS be used in GNS3 and EVE-NG products? Dave have you set up this VIRL2 and created any complex labs? Is us buggy like the first version? Thanks
"we learned from the previous version" more like "gns3 is murdering us what can we do about it???" lol i am glad they made it more light weight!!! i am gonna buy it and try both Virl and GNS3 with images.. and see what seems "better"...
@@davidbombal Hi David, sorry to bother you again :), I was wondering, if I buy VIRL 1.6 can I upgrade to 2.0 without having to Pay for it again? As I am not getting an answer from Cisco, I thought maybe you know something. Thanks in advance Paul.
Hi Danny - Have a look at Packet.net - a bare-metal cloud provider. They have an arrangement with cisco such that VIRL is one of their "operating systems" you can select. Around 8 minutes after you choose which machine you want, there's a fully operating VIRL backend ready to go. I don't know if it still applies but, as a sweetener with the deal, you used to be able to get double the node limit - typically this meant 40 nodes instead of 20. Compared with virtual-host cloud providers, bare metal is relatively expensive - but the key word here is "relative". Packet offer a spot market where you bid for a machine. I can nearly always get a second tier machine - you can look up the specs - which runs VIRL easily for about US$0.10 - 0.12 per hour. You may balk at having to pay anything - but think about it - if cisco study isn't your main game - ie you have Uni or a job - you would be doing well to get 2 x 3hr labs done/week - about 60 to 75 US cents... "Oh Noseeee!" :-) VIRL is a substantial investment in your future - I think it's worth it. A Packet.net machine to run it from anywhere in the world with a 10 minute setup time enables you to get more value out of it and its cost is peanuts. My experience has been all good and this new version looks very geared for remote running of the product. DISCLAIMER - I have no association with Packet.net other than as a happy customer.
@@martinryan7142 I've never heard of Packet.net. I'll look into it and see if it's something I'd be interested in. Thanks for the suggestion and long explanation!
What laptop system requirements any, would laptop need to be able to do virtualization . Last year bought a laptop which I found cant access virtualization so for my NP im using real equipment (not much ) Boson
Current VIRL version hardware requirements can be found here: learningnetworkstore.cisco.com/virlfaq/calculator For GNS3 have a look here: www.gns3.com/discussions/sizing-your-computer-for-gns3
So the FIRST thing they are showing to us is THE API STUFF, REALLY ? Cisco is really turning into a programming company.... API blah blah.... OPENSTACK blah blah.... Show me the switches and routers and topologies !!!!
I put a menu below the video with links so you can jump to parts of the video that are of interest. Like this: 06:50 - The Dashboard and new components
