I spent so much of my teenage years here just hanging out back in the early 2000s. Sad to see its downfall like this.

Can’t believe Charleston doesn’t have a small high end retail mall. I know king street is the spot, but Citadel and Northwoods are hurting. Luckily MUSC is going to save Citadel.

@@StephenKershaw1 Awesome reply telling me to "get with the times"... Not one bit insightful and so easy for you to just rip and run. Malls were never "a thing" here in Charleston in the first place, especially when compared to other metro areas in the southeast, including shoreline cities. So, I guess I should tell you to get with the facts and not the times. Please feel free to give me all of your insider knowledge to the plans for EPICENTER and MUSC here at the Citadel.

@@StephenKershaw1 What does your family, your name and any of your response have to do with a comment about a mall on RU-vid? You started this entire interaction with negativity and are amplifying it even further. Not necessary in any way...

@@charlestonpinballarcade I cant believe either. I feel like Charlestons lacking a lot of tourist locations. I’m from Louisville and moved there, and I feel like there’s not much to do outside of downtown and the beach. The myrtle beach mall is awesome though

@@charlestonpinballarcade ......I have to disagree a bit on this. Malls WERE huge here for a long time but as with all things, people get bored, crime becomes an issue and SERIOUS mismanagement of these properties is always at the front of their failures. Combined with massive social changes and upheaval.....it's not hard to see why malls are going away in America. IRONICALLY, there is a Mall BOOM in places like Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E.

Area around this mall is not very good. I moved to the area in 2015. This mall is only hanging on because of Target and Medical University of SC. There is a homeschool coop in the mall and they are using some of the old stores for other purposes. There’s a lot less there now in 2022. Many businesses closed down probably from Covid.

It looks like things may not be so "Epic" after all as it was announced today, January 6, 2023 that the mall has yet again been sold, this time to Singerman Real Estate Group of Chicago. They've not yet announced their plans for the property or if they will proceed with the renaming.

Was there in 1999 and bought swimming shorts at the target (I guess?). It was a beautiful warm april evening, with the sun setting. (Perfectly captured by the song Running Scared by Duett). I was really impressed by the nice brick exterior of the mall. I thought it was the nicest mall I'd seen in the US by then. Sad to see it limp/die.

We opened that mall and had SO MANY good times there. With all the trash from Katrina and the New Orleans wards blowing in and never leaving it has seriously affected the viability of the mall. I drove 9 hours to speak to mall management about doing a documentary on the mall and the bastards broomed me 2 minutes after I showed up. I love the place but the people running it are shit.

The mall owners charge not only rent each month but a percentage of profits. The county originally made the deal for a mall and then the city annexed it raising taxes. Why don't malls (and Ranger outlets) check out this he neighborhood before building. How about interviewing residents who have lived there for a tine.

I have lived in West Ashley and the Citadel Mall was a staple of my childhood. The mall is only still kicking because of the poor shopping choices throughout Charleston. The mall is the only place someone can go for Target if you live west of the ashley or cooper. Not to mention the MUSC is a great location for local residents, that need routine checkups and such. The rest of the mall might be dying but the Target, cinema, and MUSC will keep it kicking for years to come. The Epic Center is a bullshit proposal, and will most likely not drive any customers to the mall. The only thing that gets people to the mall is a necessitiy.

I believe the Epic Center proposal is not going to happen or at least I'll believe it when I see it happen.

I didn't know you did a video for this I remove the Charleston 2 years ago and yeah this mall is dead as hell even today it still has some life in there but it's not really a mall anymore it's really weird. And there was a rumor that got repurchased to be completely remodeled but because of coronavirus I don't know when thats going to happen We got to catch any footage of the Northwoods Mall but that one just filed for bankruptcy Bruhhhhh lol when you circle the mall cop
