I received a request from @VirtualAviationAviator to show the cockpit setup and engine start procedure for the Citation X. This one is a little technical, but I hope you find it to be interesting!
Thanks for the great video! I flew the X a few thousand hours 20 years ago, and now will be instructing on it in the sim. This video really jogged my memory! Fly safe!
I will be working at CAE in Dallas. Just got current in it, after 20 years since last flying the X and 3 years of not flying at all, two sims and a checkride later I’m back!
@GregP-ll6jy so cool! We definitely need to keep in touch. We normally go to FlightSafety for our recurrent, but I know a lot of guys that go to CAE in Dallas.
Really neat video! I love the Citation X, chose it as the topic for a few group projects in my aircraft systems class, at the time I mostly had manuals to learn from which worked, but it’s really cool to see how it all ties together here.
So cool! Yes. The Citation X was brilliantly designed. I think that’s awesome that you use it as the topic for your systems class. I’m glad that you were able to get so much out of the video!
Wow! Thank you. This video is extremely helpful. It turns out that the Citation X checklist that I made isn't that far off from yours, albeit a lot is missing. The flow logic is the same. My X, by Laminar Research, is default so some things are simply not modeled. Maybe we'll get a fully modeled C750 at some point. I've always loved the X - all the way back to Eaglesoft's rendition back in FSX [cir.] 1999. Wish it was still in production. I saw in the comments that @12romeo53 is planning to update his checklist. I'll have to do the same. I've shared the checklist with the X-Plane community, and it's pretty popular. Anywoo, thanks for this production. It is awesome. If I may, I like to leave you with one word: More.
You’re welcome! Glad to know that the video is helpful. I also had the Eaglesoft citation X for FSX. They did a fantastic job on it! I would love for them to make a new version. Thanks for sharing the checklist! I may make a better video in the future where I actually do some more planning and set up GoPro’s that film the screens during the engine start.
Many, Many thanks SIR !!! Very, Very, Very nice, beautiful and useful video for Citation X SimPilots and just fans of this plane. Thank you for your interesting channel. I know only one similar and good resource about C750 from "yourcptspeaking". But his channel is a little bit abandoned, and anyway it is very good to see something fresh and other point of view. Thank you again !!!
Thank you so much! So glad that you appreciate the video and the channel. I am a huge fan of the Citation X! Not sure if you have found them yet, but I have a few other Citation X videos on the channel with more to come! 👍🏻👍🏻
I attempted last night to fly the Citation last night from a hot start (already started) in XP12...I managed to take-off okay but the landing was successful wasn't prettty at all 🙃 Thanks for sharing start up information!
@@He11ums I saw. I am interested to know how to properly flare. I either flare not enough or flare so much once the reversers come out plane backflips.
@@He11ums Last tine into Charlotte I engaged speedbrakes. Somehow the plane still flipped. Might be a physics issue. Real plane shouldn't backflip, rather as wings lose life when slowing down nose drops.
Very cool John, thanks ! I was surprised to see that engine start is not fully automated. You mentioned that your C X was an early one, has that changed on later ones or the X+ ? Do you guys ever fly longer trips ? I'd be curious to see it cruise a M 0.90+ and FL510... All the best !
Thanks! The FADECs take care of most of the engine start sequence. All we really have to do is take the levers out of cutoff at 10% N2. I believe it’s fully automated on the X+. I do have a video where we hit 771 mph across the ground on a trip, but I didn’t have the GoPros set up so it was filmed with my iPhone. Next time we are up at FL510 I will try to get some footage. I’m not sure if you saw the video that highlights trip we took to Hawaii. I the GoPros set up for that one and people find it to be pretty interesting. Thanks for checking out the video! I’ll send a couple of links to the others.
I have a lot of 10 time but I’ve been flying a beautiful PC 12 NGX for the last year. Next month I start up again in the 10. This was a great review. Thanks.
Thank you! I’m a big fan of simulator flying as well. I had the Eaglesoft Citation X for FSX. It was great! Wish someone would make a study-level Citation X for MS2020. Glad X Plane has one at least!
I think you are looking at the inertial reference system (IRS) controller. Is it dark with the lights out? The units just up from there towards the panel are the radio tuning units.
@kamilswider4256 oh OK got it. That little unit controls our cabin information system and what is presented upon their screens regarding the flight information. Also, you can scroll through the menus and have it play some canned briefings over the cabin speakers, such as the pre-takeoff briefing and passenger briefing when we are about to land.
My daughter is going to be flying the Citation X and it’ll be her first jet. Any chance you could give a quick overview of the citation X engines explained? Thank you so much!
How exciting! She will absolutely love the X, especially if it’s her first jet. Which operator will she be flying for, if she doesn’t mind me asking? I could put a video together going over the specifics of the Citation X engines but honestly she will get much better and more complete information on all of that during ground school for her type rating.
@@johnkluenker yes, thank you. VistaJet, now known as VistaAmerica. She’s just looking for a transition study guide into jet engines in general to learn about ITT, EGT, you know, jet engines concepts, totally different then Recip. Without having to go take a jet transition course and pay 5k.
At the end of the flight plan in the there will be a separate entry on the right hand side of the screen for the destination airport. You can change it there. You have to keep hitting the next button in order to skip ahead to the end of the flight plan.
I don’t own Xplane, but I would love to check it out and fly it on Xplane. The last PC simulated Citation X I flew was the Eaglesoft version for FSX. It was fantastic!
Hi John! This was an awesome video, I am also a sim pilot and fly the Citation X on X-Plane. Any recommendations to where I could find technical documents that outline normal procedures? This would greatly aid my sim experience.
Thank you! I haven’t done much research into what is available online. Since I go to FlightSafety every year for recurrent training, I have access to all of their stuff but that is proprietary and I can’t share it. So glad that you appreciate the video!
@@johnkluenker That is understandable, would it be a big ask to link the checklist that you use? It would be great help with using in the sim! Thanks for the video.
You’re welcome! If you are comfortable leaving your email address in this thread, I could email it to you or if you were able to send a direct message through RU-vid that works. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook if you want to send me a message there. I can then email you photos of our checklist. Here at the house, I don’t have access to a workable doc file.
You can search for Eaglesoft documentation for their FSX sim model. Other way is to search in Google for Citation X Pilot Training Manual in PDF. Hope you will be lucky 🤞😊
P.S. Also you can find in network , or in your XP 12 local folder, manual for Citation X from Laminar Research team. As I remember it was done accurately.
We keep the passenger oxygen in AUTO. L/R BLEED AIR stays on in HP/LP and switches automatically between high and low pressure as needed for takeoff, pressurization/environmental, and anti-ice operations.
Wemac boost typically stays off. Trim setting depends upon whether or not you have winglets. With winglets and max gross weight takeoff you’re typically at -7.0. Mid fuel more like -5-6

Thanks for the input. Yeah that one was a bit shoot from the hip since I wasn’t planning to do any filming and I didn’t bring my GoPro‘s. Maybe I’ll do another version where I actually set up the cameras and you can read the screens and not feel like you are on a carnival ride. 😆
Out of interest, if there is a true emergency and you had to evacuate could you just hop in the plane, start the engines and fly away without programming the computer
Yes you could absolutely do that. By my estimation you could be airborne in about 3 minutes from connecting the batteries if you really had to in an emergency! No computer programming required. You can fly it like a Cessna 172 if need be.
