I think the issue with those 'wear lines' on the roads is that they multiply their value where they overlap - so an intersection with lots of them is almost white where they all cross in the same place. If they had an upper limit to the value I think it would look a lot better.

Also, nice transition from housing on the right, to bigger offices and business, then to downtown big buildings as you go to the left. 10:50 - Center of the screen, transitions from city on the right to industrial as you go left. Then housing below to support both. 11:35 - Harbor container yard on the left with ship coming in. 13:10 - Building roof on the left, roof equipment detail. House top of screen, detail of steps down to sidewalk. 14:57 - Signage on business roofs, and roof equipment detail. 15:35 - Parking lot lighting poles. 16:42 - Left side of the screen between building and curb people standing by fence and bench, fence bent. Same on opposite side of street. Fire escape on building top of screen left and right of center. Do roll up garage doors open to parking under buildings as there is no street parking there? AC unit on the side of building on right, detail. 18:42 - Detail on roof buildings, signage and reflections off solar panels. 19:05 - The amount of red shirted women and gold suited men? 22:05 - Power lines. 28:00 - the privacy fence at the bottom of the screen, pallets stacked and a container placed. The nice hedge between the traffic maint building and the building to the right "Pecnu Appace...". Lights in the traffic maint parking lot. 28:35 - Sound barrier detail, slanted in towards road at top.

I designed on paper an interchange between two quad-carriageway freeways with ramps leading to and from local streets as well. I drew that for the needs of a novel I was writing, which takes place on an abandoned planet, where colonists use a tunnel that's part of the interchange as a church (and the configuration leads one of the characters, imagining what it looked like when it was busy, to investigate why the planet is abandoned.) I think CS2 will allow me to actually render that interchange exactly like what I had in mind at the time.

It looks to me like that's automatic. You can see it in the video when the offramp is built. I'm seeing it as something like, say a 3 lane segment after a 2 lane segment will automatically have one lane have more frequent dashes. After that (as you can see at 18:41) the game will revert the dashes to continue as normal. The more frequent dashes just indicate that the lanes will change soon and seem to be automatic by the looks of it. I've not seen anything yet that suggests that line/intersection marking tool is a part of the game, it looks like lines are made entirely automatic, but we get much more modular lane merging tools for intersections/merges.

I can't wait to dive into the road tools in the new game. It looks like they added some of the best parts of the CS1 mods into the new base game and made things pretty intuitive to use. I hope the community understands and appreciates that there are so many of us and we all build differently, and the devs have worked hard to incorporate as many different play styles as possible in the development time they've had. Whether that means grids or no grids, roundabouts or no roundabouts, they seem to have tried to give something to everyone. Of course, as with every compromise, we're all going to have criticisms that it didn't go our way far enough, but our amazing modding community will likely be able to fill some of those gaps.

All I need to figure out now is how the performance will be for current gen pcs Edit: Just noticed as well, the road tools part in the dev diary had an option to "Snap to the sides of a building". Does that mean we could plop unique structures like train stations, monuments, etc. before setting up the roads?

With a Ryzen 5 2600 and an RX 580 8GB, I'm above the minimum specs, but not to the recommended specs, so we'll have to see what that exactly means. A 2080 Ti or RX 6800 XT are huge purchases, especially since I'm pretty happy with my current performance. It looks like it will be available day one on the Xbox Game Pass, so I will probably play on there for the first little bit. It will take some time for the mod and asset creators to do their magic, and once that happens I'll end up buying it on Steam.

I am REALLY hoping there's a way to use timed traffic lights and select where each lane goes. We haven't seen either of those two things yet tho as of this first Dev diary. Closest thing I can spot in the vid is the "No left turn, no right turn" options for roads now. But that doesn't exactly tell the lanes everywhere they can and can't go, like you could in CS1 with mods which added little nodes you could use to select where traffic goes from an intersection. But we SEVERELY need timed lights. Otherwise traffic will always conflict with one another. But, next weeks video is about AI and traffic, so maybe we'll get that? Who knows. Love your vids Biffa! I love the cut and fill feature! Makes roads look more like real life. Also, I'm thinking the base roads that you modify with trees, sidewalks, bus lanes, etc. means the game will be more optimized so you don't need 100 different mods or assets to achieve the look you want, therefore your computer will be better able to handle it. My computer starts sounding the overheat alarm when I start adding all that stuff, so I purged my entire workshop and only added back those QoL things I couldn't live without.

i actually think the road markings at 3:40 are not overlay indicators of where cars are going but literal physical indicators of them driving in those directions. if you look at a big junction in real life you'll often see dirt and dust piled up in the corners where the cars don't drive on those junctions, while the rest of the road is clear and that's what i think this is.

These new road features are incredible, instantly sold me on a pre-order!!! If I had to take a guess based on 17:43, the new roads seem to be bundles of lanes, instead of a solid road like we have in CS1. As an example, you're not placing down a three-lane road, but rather you're placing down three parallel lanes. After that, the engine works its magic with some blending tools (parallel lanes get white-dashed lines, splitting lanes get a solid white line and blank pavement in between, lanes that end abruptly merge into the adjacent lane, etc.) and everything comes out looking the way it should.

What I found really interesting is, how additional lanes like on/off-ramps are handled. They are actually added to the existing road at the relevant position instead of upgrading the road and realigning it as a whole. Haven't watched your - or any - CS videos for some time, so I'm not up to date how far mods have come, but I remember that fiddling with additional lanes, so that the existing ones still line up, was a bit tedious. One small detail there is also nice to see. If there's an on/off-ramp or simply splitting roads, the lane markers update accordingly, so they are tighter packed than the usual lane markers. What I hope to see, especially when lanes are handled as individual nodes, is that you can freely place tram lines on any lane you want and choose, if it's just for trams or cars as well. The same with bus lanes. If all is individual, this should be possible, I guess. Also toggling crosswalks is nice, if you want to use an overpass.

(Tools > Preferences > Interface > Hotkey Settings) (If think it is "e" by default) By default + and - (Plus and minus, NOT on numpad) will slow down and speed up the video. Another item I've been keeping my eye out is terrain resolution - like how many vertices can we get now per how ever much land, so you don't get though wild bevels. You can see here at 20:12 where we see ground clipping, showing that it could potentially be in half of what we had before. Also I notice the waterfalling on cliffs looks finer.

Node per lane is amazing. In fact if you look at the game play trailer, you can see a highway ramp joining a normal two way road without breaking the centre line. In CS1 it would create a break in the road and allow turns in any direction. I'm also wondering if the light lane shading is an indication of road wear as maintenance is now an issue, or it's just showing possible paths based on lane rules etc.
