On the official Rochester flag: Blue represents the city’s water and electric power from the Genesee River and Lake Ontario. White represents the city’s cleanliness. Gold represents financial strength and prosperity. For the coat of arms, in 1803, Colonel Nathaniel Rochester, traveled with two companions by horse from Maryland to Genesee country. Colonel Rochester purchased 100 acres of land when he saw the abundance of water resources in the area and the potential for factories. By 1817 Rochester had become a village. So the middle of the flag is the Rochester family coat of arms which commemorates Colonel Rochester and recognizes his contributions to its history. On the unofficial flag: The five-petal lilac is dissected to represent a water wheel. The logo flag was first designed and used in 1979. Rochester's nickname became the Flower City in in 1859 after changing it from the Flour City, brought about by the efforts of the burgeoning nursery and seed industry. At one point in time, Rochester was the largest manufacturer of baking flour in the world thanks to the creation of the Erie Canal, hence the Flour City nickname.

To be more specific regarding Maryland, it's the banner of arms of Cecil, SECOND Baron Baltimore! It consists of the arms of his father George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore, quartered with those of his grandmother, heiress of the Crossland family. So the yellow-black part of the Maryland flag that Baltimore slapped on their flag is fittingly from the 1st Baron Baltimore side rather than the Crossland side. And the thing in the middle of the Baltimore flag is the Battle Monument which commemorates the soldiers and officers that fell in the defense of the city against the British in the War of 1812. It was during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814 that the Star-Spangled Banner was written. Shame you didn't mention the Pawtucket, RI flag, because that one is....oh boy, it may just be the worst flag in the whole Northeast region, maybe the whole country. The majority of the flag is a VINTAGE PHOTO of the old section of Pawtucket. The main building on it is the Old Slater Mill. On the flyer side of the flag is a sky-blue vertical bar. On the bar are the words "Pawtucket", rotated vertically and colored white, under that is the founding and the incorporation as a city, along with their dates. Yes, not a seal nor a drawing, but an ACTUAL PHOTO.

9:53 I actually tried this myself, and was *extra* generous to find ANYTHING even tangentially related to the NYC flag that is not in a city government building... And I found 2 flags... both Dutch flags... in the UN headquarters and the consulate. At this point New York is arguably the only place where a logo flag would be better than this mediocre mess, because _at least_ slapping the I❤NY logo would make for a distinctive and recognizable flag. And that's saying something 14:07 for Springfield, let's be honest, its phone area code is 413, Homestuck's creator Andrew Hussie at least used to live in that general area, just put the Homestuck spirograph on top of a green-purple-red tricolor to make it distinct from the other Springfields out there
