That capacitor was installed incorrectly in this video. The contact should be at the bottom of the movemrnt not visible at the top as shown. There is a notch (indentation) in the movement where that brass contact belongs. People will damage their watches if they follow this video as shown...

You should read the instruction that came with the battery in order to put it in proper position - otherwise it will not recharge....

I don't think there was anything wrong with that watch. You said it best at the beginning of your video, :22 seconds in. You said, "I think we might need a little more light here." You're right! When an eco-drive is low on battery it will click just once every two seconds in order to extend the battery life. (30 clicks=1 minute) If you had just placed the watch in the sun for a day it would have "fixed" the problem. I think you just took apart a perfectly good watch for no reason.
@bettersteps
@bettersteps 3 года назад
@@jlim003 Eventually, sure. It will take at least twenty/thirty year though. That watch is a newer model. Citizen has only been making that watch for a few years. I still think the battery was functioning, it just needed a day in the sun.

My poor watch sat lost in the dark for a year. Nothing seemed to start it. I thought it was a write off, but in a last ditch attempt, sat it in the window sill for two days which gave it lots of afternoon sun, did the trick, I'm happy again. PS it is about 7 years old now. Was lost years 6-7 only found it about a month ago under a pile of books.

Hello. Thank you very much for this video. One question please: What is the meaning of 6T in the box of the battery??? 295 - 5100 - 6T. Thank you very much.

I have a Citizen that looks exactly like this one, except for the crown, which looks different. Does this mean it's a different model with a different battery?
@BlewTube

All the comments below are accurate. This is how NOT to replace the battery. Wrong tools used (metal), battery positioning wrong, and a full charge in bright sun could have shown no battery change was needed at all-- a skipping second hand first indicates low charge due to low light not necessarily a bad battery. The second hand was misaligned -- in-between the tick marks after the new battery was installed. PS-My Citizen and Casio watches typically run 12-15 years on a rechargeable battery. Also a grounding of two contacts within the movement are often needed when installing a new rechargeable battery.

The brass tab on back to be fitted properly, this watch will only last 12 moths at most and won't re charge.
@bertramsay2904
@bertramsay2904 6 лет назад
The reason you had a hard job removing and replacement is because there is a small clip at the crown side of the battery holding it in. (but the battery can be forced out like you had just shown) If you had slackened off that little arm then doing the changeover would have been a lot easier.

I have a citizen eco drive men's watch. All of a sudden it does not run at all. There was no water or trauma to the watch. Is there any troubleshooting that I can do to try to get it running? Should I change that battery? Where do you buy them? Ty.
@minitwatch
@minitwatch 8 лет назад
+P.M. Patterson If you put it under a bright light for a long time, does it start to do irregular second hand ticks? If that is the case then the battery has been completely depleted. You can try leaving it in the sun for a day then under a bright light. If it does not charge up then it's possible that that battery has had it. I got mine off of ebay. The batter will say exactly what kind it is on the top. Search for that number on ebay OR amazon. They usually go for around 25 dollars (US). If that doesn't help, then something else might be wrong. Your hour/minute hands might be getting stuck together, the movement has died, or some kind of corrosion.

A few years ago, I had an eco drive too and it stopped working. I also dropped it once and the second hand fell off. I was surprised how cheap it was inside when I tried to fix it. I'll stick with automatics.

I have a Eco-Drive watch that is stopped. I'll try replacing the battery, if I have to replace the capacitor, do you have a video teaching that? How can I know which capacitor model I need to buy? Can you help me?
@minitwatch
@minitwatch 9 лет назад
I'd be glad to help. When you get the back cover off, carefully take out the capacitor and look at the numbers on them. They will be something like "295-76" or similar. A lot of those are sold on Amazon or Ebay. The watch will have an indentation at the bottom of the recessed area that the battery goes into. Match that indentation with the contact point of the battery (capacitor). But before you do that, have you tried leaving it out in the sun for a day? Sometimes the cells need a lot of charging to get them going again. I hope this helps!
@waltermesquita4704
@waltermesquita4704 9 лет назад
Thanks so much! I removed the capacitor of my watch, the only two informations I got are the movement type that is J810, and the size of capacitor that is MT621. I found in an website a capacitor (295-56) for this movement type, but it size is MT920. I can`t found in Citizen Website the correct capacitor for J810. Do you know where can I find it? And yes, I've tried leaving it out in the sun and above strong lights for a long time, but nothing.
@minitwatch

Best of luck! Just remember to make sure that the bottom contact point of the battery(capacitor) lines up with the indentation on the movement! Take it slow. It'll be okay :)

I watch this video only after 8 years of its upload. Well if someone knows : how does one maintain the waterproof status of this watch after replacement of the battery and closing the back lid? (I suppose same way..?? i.e by using the rubber ball..) The watch is supposed to warrant 100m waterproof condition??

You could try performing an all-reset on the watch. You can go to the Citizen site and look up the manual for your specific watch and try to perform an all-reset as per the manual

How long should we recharge the exo drive watches
@minitwatch
@minitwatch 9 лет назад
I would leave it under a bright light for about 12 hours. If the watch dies quickly after, leave it out in the sun for a day. If it still does not hold a charge, the internal capacitor/battery is no good.

$30 to replace the capacitor? what a gimmick. Regular quartz watch batteries last 5 years, cost about a buck on Ebay and take about 30 seconds to replace. Kinetic and solar charged watches are idiotic.

Exactly, I just posted about about how I have a 15 year old eco-drive that still runs like a champ. You have to keep them FULLY charged as much as possible to lessen the wear and tear on the capacitor instead of always letting it run down, which is easy to do in the winter with short days, overcast skies, lots of time indoors and wearing long sleeves that cover the watch. Taking care of a solar watch like this is extremely easy.

@sharonthompson4531
@sharonthompson4531 7 лет назад
You are supposed to be able to recharge it in the sunlight.
@whoknows8678
@whoknows8678 7 лет назад
If you take care of it properly, you won't. Always keep it charged up as much as possible and you'll greatly reduce the wear on the capacitor versus letting it run down and have to charge back up all the time. I have a Citizen eco-drive I bought in 2002. 15 years old and it still runs great. It's analog/digital so it has a "battery" level indicator, too. It generally always shows full charge. At most, it will get one bar down and I just stick it in the sun to recharge. I've never once let it get fully dead. Winter is generally the time of year that most affects the watch due to lots of overcast days, lots of time indoors, long sleeves covering the watch, etc. Always keep it charged even if you don't wear it for extended periods of time, so leave it in a windowsill or something.
@angelcortez8158

I googled the battery life of and eco-drive watch and it says it’s 10-15 years. Think of all the money that you would have spent between that time if you had a regular quartz. Batteries run around $5 at Walmart or so and they last about 2 years. Add to that what you will Pay someone to install the battery if you can’t do it your self. Eco drive watches are hassle free watches unless you bought one used from eBay or amazon for dirt cheap....if that’s the case you were kinda asking for it....
