Not many people know about the hidden hourly chime sound that can be set for this watch. In timekeeping mode, push the (S) upper left and (R) upper right both at same time. The buzzer continues to sound. The hourly chime is all set. If you want to disable it, press both buttons again and the buzzer sounds for a short fixed previous time.
Ditto, first one broke now I own the next gen. the window is about useless for diving, way to small and hard to see. Battery replacement is exorbitantly expensive, as I don't dive anymore I change my own batteries and have no problem with swimming etc. It's the only watch I feel comfortable with and an aftermarket Shark band really improves the fit on my wrist.
Thanks for a great summation of the two watches. I wasn't aware that Citizen were still producing updated versions of this model. I have a CO20 that I purchased in 1986, and I recently found it languishing in a draw. 3 new batteries and a new band and it is running as new and keeping great time. Initially the analogue would not start, but within half an hour the second hand was underway. These watches were very maintenance intensive, requiring new batteries every 2 or so years. The bands, as someone else has pointed out, would rot and have to be replaced regularly too. My case is in simlar condition to the example you have, so I think it is testement to the ruggedness of the watch. My lume however has not survived, probably 36 Australian summers has taken a toll. The orange minute hand has also faded. Anyway, I can enjoy wearing this watch again, I'll now have to find the yellow scuba tank and box to complete the package.
Hey Ian many thanks for your comment and hope all is good down under!! Cheers also for sharing that back story of your watch, a truly worn watch!! Superb to hear it's still got life!! Recently Citizen released a blue version, full lume and i think a green dial version of these and so am trying to save up to get one in for review asap - welcome to the channel dude :)
😄 I fell down that rabbit hole a few days ago when I made an offer of less than ZAR 5000 on a stainless steel and gold version of the Citizen Aqualand C022. Seller stated it had been in his safe for over twenty years and I was worried battery leakage would have destroyed the module. Luckily not, as I installed new batteries this afternoon and working perfectly. This watch has been a grail ever since a teenager and happy I finally found one at a very reasonable price. Apart from light scratches on case back, it is 98% NOS.
@@thetimebombardier😄 Please do not be jealous, my friend, and thank you for the warm welcome. Can you perhaps tell me the differences between the CO22, C023, etc? To me, they all look the same. Also, do you perhaps know where I can find a manual for the C022? The one PDF manual that I did find only mentions it is setting instructions for the C020, C021, C023, C026, C027 and C029. Strange that it does not mention the C022. 🤔
@@Daud76 yup the answer will be quite lengthy but channel called Plastic Indices is worth a look as he collects those models and I think he did a great comparison vid not that long ago 😎🙏
Hey!! That's me next to your cup! 😋🤪 Yup, i come in various sizes... Congrats reaching 1k mate, beware the party starts now (as i say, it's just the first 100 years in life that are tough, then you can relax!). Merry Christmas and a very happy new year mate. PS Friend of mine (diver) has this watch, he keeps on saying that the depth meter/sensor is just a gas stove he makes his coffee when he comes out of the sea. His 2 year old son is fascinated by this.....!!! PS2 New sub...scriber... Cheers
The replacement crystals listed as good for both generations, so I wonder if they just don't know... It's concerning to me, because I am thinking of buying new crystal for first generation. If you have time maybe you can measure with sticky tape, much more accurate way to do it. But thanks for the video regardless!
I bought my first Citizen Promaster Aqualand in september 1992. I just joined the military and spend half my salary on this watch. It cost me around 430 us dollars and it was a lot that time. I saw today that the watch still cost around 430 us dollars and now what I would could alow price for such historical diver!
Hey Michael thanks dude and welcome to the channel 😎 do you still have that original 92? It's a collectors item now but I can get why you would not wanna sell it 👍😋
Great watches, I had the old model with gold crone, bezel ring and buttons. Bought it in Bangkok year 1992 for 5000.- THB.- I had more than 1000 dives with that watch and never failed on depth meter or time. Unfortunately was it stolen by a Thai girl I picked up in a bar, when I woke up next morning she was gone and so was my watch and wallet. Shit happens guys, I'm still looking for a 2.nd hand here in Thailand but difficult to find.
hahaha cheers Bjoern that's a superb tale, been to BK a few times myself so can fully empathise!! and yup I don't think you are the first or last to have suffered that experience LOL but yes bummer to lose the watch!!! have you tried amazon? these pop up cheap especially a like new one :D
I have a C022 which is not operating, Citizen in Australia were not interested and offered me a new dive watch at a discounted price but I really like this watch and would love to get it repaired. Do you know of any facility that is able to repair this? Thank you.
g'dday Godfrey, several other guys have asked this and sadly I don't have any suggestions other than googling watch repairers down under to see if they'd help, I'm lucky I have an independent store close by and they are happy to work on all brands but that's not the case across the uk, sorry can't be more helpful!!
Mate I had the exact same thing happen to mine. Was a graduation gift and was devo as I had over 100 dives on it. I'm gonna pull the trigger on the refresh model. Found one for $529 incl. a 5% discount. Based on this review its close to my ole girl as its gonna get.
G’day Chaps, Thanks for the tip, I wasn’t aware of that new model, I’ll chase one up. I found a very good watch repairer here in Perth WA who had about 10 of the old model all BER, it seems the big issue is battery leakage rendering the watch un repairable. A great pity 😢
@@thetimebombardier also, 1:40 the watch is definitely from 1987, not '97 because the second gen JP2000 came out in '91. No more first gen. were manufactured in 97.
Hey Vognovic thanks and welcome to the channel, and I've been using mine for a good while and absolutely no issues at all, I'd say the brand is very dependable, what are you looking to use it for bud?
@@thetimebombardier thank you for answer. I am recreative scuba diver and I will use them for diving and everyday watch. I have Promaster C500 (produced 2001.) with depth meter. Unfortunate, gaskets for pushers are not avaible. I need new diver so I start think abouth this model
@@vojnovicvojnovic1104 roger that, i think it should still stand up to that kind of use and there are a few other ISO rated watches out there but they are typically a little more expensive 😜
@@vojnovicvojnovic1104 I've just had my JP1010-00e which is the c500 movement completely refurbished! New glass, all new seals, new strap, new battery, pressure tested, and ultrasonically cleaned! It looks brand new and now has a 1-year warranty! I also had the hour and minute hands replaced for the red ones as the orange ones looked a bit faded!
I've changed out my own a number of times , first with the original in 85 or so and also a later model after I crashed the first. It requires a little finesse but is do-able. Ask me how I unscrew the case back and I'll reply.
So are you trying to tell us there is no technical differences in the functionality and specifications of the new watch versus 30 years old? You are amazing fools!!! Let’s not say any thing more here before I get banned from RU-vid
I had always wanted one of these watches when I spotted the ads for them in magazines in the ‘80s, but I didn’t feel that I needed such a watch with that many functions specific to SCUBA diving. Fast forward 35 years later and having recently been certified as a recreational open water diver, I have purchased this watch with every intention of taking it down below with me! 🤿
Hey Kevin thanks for your comment and i love that profile photo 💪💪😅😅 and congrats on the dive qualification as you're gonna have a lot of fun!! Hopefully the watch will get some kudos on the dive boats 🤿🤿😎😎👍👍
