I have owned two NY0040 both of which were flawless, durable and very accurate. I much prefer the green markers since they add to the watches distinct mildly vintage tool watch vibe. Also less flashy than the later white versions.

I have two of these,one has a problem with the automatic winding mechanism,but still works perfectly with hand winding,and my new one( about 5 or 6 years old) that has just been serviced by an old Chinese guy here in bangkok.i think this is the best watch i've ever owned,and after seeing the love for this model,i think I'll get the Chinese guy to take a look at the broken one to see if its worth fixing.nice review.thanks.

I have a birthday coming up next week - July 20 - and I'm pretty sure that this video helped me to decide what present I'm gonna get for myself. I had been leaning toward an SKX007 but I think this Citizen Promaster looks so much nicer than the Seiko. I love that the indices are a subtle jade green color and have shiny metal frames! This watch looks really good on that black Nato strap. Unfortunately, I have a drawer full of Nato straps in every size and color imaginable. I have really tried to like them. But, for some reason, after a day or two, I always go back to a more conventional strap or bracelet. Hmm, now that you've sold me on this watch, I guess I should get busy trying to find one? great review. I have a 21 year old one of these, just replaced the crystal with sapphire, and a new bezel. looks as good as new. still holding good time despite never having been serviced.

You can hack it if you SLOWLY rotate the crown backwards. You may have to go nearly the whole way around the dial, backwards. The lower the charge, the easier it is to make the seconds hand stop.

I totally agree about the green tint. It gives the watch character. If my SKX had the same green tint I think it would look better. Maybe Seiko will take notice and offer this in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Just waiting for one i ordered and to me is aesthetically and technically more refined than the SKX besides, I think is more exclusive since Seiko is more mainstream, I like the looks and features very mucjh, cant wait for mine to arrive sometime next week.

@@marshalbass7098 buy both if you can . The promaster is a better quality watch than the sxk and looks fabulous with a stainless sharkmesh bracelet but the Seiko with Pesci bezel is a timeless classic even though it doesn't keep great time.

Had both the Orient ray and this piece. Nothing in it IMHO, though the Citizen is an ISO cert diver and has Italian special forces lineage. Very accurate too

I got a ProMaster and I also have a car. I can drive the second without changing the oil and filters and I can wear the watch without services. The question is: is it worth?

Nice review! My watch (Yep, this one) went AWOL a year back but was discovered in one of my 'man drawers' a week after I bought a Citizen 200m eco-drive diver's as a replacement, which I have to say is magnificent. Hell, they are both stunning, and now I occasionally wear the two at the same time, one on each wrist (I know I know, I'm that side of the autistic spectrum, and besides, it's the nearest thing I have to a harem; I just hope they don't get jealous). As for the one under review, like Ismo (below) I'd managed to get it to + or - 6 seconds a week, but this varies + or - depending on ambient temperature. Get it cold and the difference in the balance-wheel spring (cold stiffens it) speeds it up. But hey! A second a day? That's better than Rolex. I really wouldn't advise anyone to try it at home, but if you're obsessive (nuts) like me, with a bit of patience, a cocktail stick and a steady hand - a very steady hand, it can be done - in tiny (very tiny!) increments. Either that or shell out for a professional calibration. It's superb engineering and a magical movement and it sure as hell's going to outlive me!

I had this same Diver, eventually passed it along to family, the rubber strap was never comfortable, I should have bought a nato strap. It is a classic. My preference these days is in solar power, I like the accuracy of the Ecotec, planning to get the Citizen Promaster Ecotec Diver bn0150-28e. Congrats on the new watch, I forgot about the hand winding, that is a good feature.

Hey there! Just bought this watch second hand thanks to that review, I absolutely love it. But.. I'm curious about markings on dial, to be precise Im talking about Japan Mov't sign. I saw couple of ny0040s on internet and they do not have this marking, and as I can see yours like my has. Any idea why is it different than vast majority?

I dont have a time graph but i can tell you the ny0040 i own runs about 3 seconds fast a day i wear it every day so the self winding might have something to do with the unbelievable accuracy on mine? Or i just got lucky? Thanks for the video

Right, mine has some small scratches after 7 years of use, but I have used it for actual scuba diving and I would be worried about how much water resist It would become changing the crystal and using one which is not designed with.

The shop in Germany i was talking about is the only one in Europe that is specialized in diving watches and providing saphire crystal.You also get a 2 year warranty for water resistant after the procedure.

I have a couple of Seiko's and one of them is the SSC017-P1 with the blue accents. The hour markers on this also have a chrome circle around them too. My next time is this one I really Citizen too. I own one of the Citizens as well. You did a great job on the video. Thank you Sir.

I don't understand this whole Crown digging into the wrist thing people are always talking about. I have many watches and have worn them for many years and I've never had a problem with a crown digging into my wrist on any dive watch or other. Just a watch people, don't overthink it so much. Put on and get on with your life.

Both are good watches. The citizen is more of a classic, the orient has a better looking dial. The citizen wears smaller while the orient wears bigger. Both are going to be more accurate than any Seiko SKX.

why on earth in this day and age would you want to wear a huge chunk of metal on your wrist? some people just seem to think because it costs $1000 it must be the best .. the same way as some people think the durian fruit is a delicacy.. when we all know it stinks, and i bet you people who want this watch will also be getting their $1000 i-phone emoji -x- .... some people just get suckered in... but one good thing , all that weight does exercise your wrist... if you know what i mean....

roblex63 because to glance at my wrist and know what's the time in milliseconds is much more convenient than to fish my phone out of my pocket which will only make me look like every other zombie on the street, because for some it is very enjoyable to own and interact with something that has no electric current in it, because some enjoy the look and style of it and for another 50 million reasons you won't understand. And don't worry, it doesn't cost $1000, nobody will go bankrupt because of it.

That watch was built for divers..that's it's purpose..your skagen will die from battery or water depth and so your phone but this will keep beating and beating and beating....
