Hi, great video with great humour. I have had my clutch replaced on my C1 a few weeks ago and it wasnt set up correctly. There was no free play in cable. Followed your video but loosened the cross nut, and got about 25 mm of free play and clutch is so much better and release bearing is now not in contact with plate. Thanks again
Watched n listened a couple of times n despite having air-con pipes in the way, it only took me 7 minutes to do, well put forward n easy to do. Thanks for that... 😊😊 3:27
You my mancunian friend are a mechanical engineering genius. Thank you for your excellent videos you have helped and kept me laughing whilst I bodge up my little c1. Keep those videos coming. Cheers brother be lucky 👍🏻
Thanks for the video! The other day my garage adjusted the biting point to be higher, but I honestly prefer it to be lower (which is where it was before, and when the clutch was newly installed). I want it to bite my head off if I lift it, now it feels like I'm trying to put my knee behind my head every time I need to operate the clutch.
@@KatonRyu yea they are high as standard on these. I prefer mine a bit lower too. Don’t put it too low though as you could be burning the clutch when stopped with the clutch down.
Hello and thank you for your videos are great 👍 I have a C1 and speed 2 must have had trouble switching to downshift what can I do please thank you in advance @@StupidBlokeStupidVideos
@@lilylys440 you mean it’s hard to change down from gear 2 into gear 1? If so, this seems to be quite normal in these cars but depending how bad it is, your clutch could need adjusting so the biting point is higher up.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Hello thank you for your answer, the problem was there and the clutch and change and the cables too but still difficult to go from the 3 to the 2 it hangs 🤔
Follow you since 2 years I own this car, from italy🇮🇹. Your videos are so useful! I would like to ask you a video about changing the clutch's spring (that you can also see in this video you made). On my car this spring make like a frog noise. Please, help me fixing that🙏 Thank you!😎✌🏻
Hello there m8, again I had to order the gear quick shift cause it was too short to change position to an already made hole, too short. I ordered one like your gear shifter arrives in 10 days A question concerning my clutch: Now I have to press it almost all the way down to change gears Is that a sign of clutch needing replacement, or can it be fixed like in this video? Thanks, m8.
@@basba_qal that’s usually a sign the cable has slackened off. When the clutch gets near replacing the bits usually goes higher up. Try adjusting it, tighten the cable to make the bite higher
Can or should I adjust the clutch on my sensodrive (automatic) C1? Or should I do any kind of servicing for the sensodrive? It isnt pretty smooth, it jerks a bit especially when the car is cold... Anyways, thanks for your great videos, I just recently bought the C1 as my first car! Greetings from Germany :)
I’ve not had anything to do with the automatics, but I believe you can carry out a relearn procedure for the clutch biting point but I’m not sure how you do it
Under the bonnet, a bit further down from those threads is a thumb screw wheel. You can turn it either way with your hand, to adjust free play. It's a bit more awkward if there is A/c pipes. You may need wd40 & a rag to get better grip.
I try to point that out at about 4:10 but can’t really see it. Mine wouldn’t turn and felt like it was going to break so just adjusted it at the end of the cable instead.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos I've been wondering whether they make remote controlled, colour changing LEDs for behind the heater control panel. Obviously they'd be tiny bulbs. Could be a future video maybe
@@nothingmuch.3014 I don’t know about remote controlled colour changing ones as they wouldn’t need some kind of interface incorporating into them, but I’ll probably change the colour of them at some point. I like the orange, but just because why not 🤷♀️
I've just got a citroen c1 for my first car and my dad fitted a new clutch but the pedal is much higher than the brake and accelerator and the biting point is quite high which is a nightmare for me setting off, would you recommend doing this to tighten it up?
They are normally white high on these cars but yea you can do this to loosen the cable a bit and also adjust it inside the car so it doesn’t lift as high. If your dad fitted the clutch himself I’m sure he’ll be able to adjust it too if he watches the video. Just don’t go too far as if the pedal is too low, the clutch may not fully disengage. That can cause damage to the gearbox or wear out the clutch prematurely
"Just don’t go too far as if the pedal is too low, the clutch may not fully disengage" Oh boy, i do sometimes have a feeling like when i press it's not fully disengaged but then again it could just be that the gearbox is worn? + i've seen a video of a guy pointing out that you have to double clutch to go from 2nd to 1st gear if not it's gonna grab/grind, but it also sometimes grabs/grinds when i try to put it in reverse@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos ,im guesssing this is a gearbox issue but could it just be the clutch?
Thanks so much for this video! Absolute life saver! My issue was exactly the same as yours, I think my clutch was barely engaging with the biting point so close to the floor after a cowboy clutch replacement.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Don't suppose I could get some help with this? So when completed this method, I found it quite difficult moving the clutch arm back and was only able to tighten the thread so much. It didn't screw all the way to the end and there still is some free play in the clutch peddle, but it has helped significantly. Should I try move leverage with the clutch arm and keep tightening so there is only a small amount of play?
@@brewmyteabag1830 yes mate, on these cars the clutches are normally high with the biting point right at the top and can feel like they are worn out if you’re not used to them. Some people adjust them down to lower the bite, which can cause them to wear faster due to dragging slightly when in gear with the engine running and clutch depressed for example. Ideally it should be adjusted so there is a tiny bit of free play at the top, just enough to make sure the cable isn’t pulling on the clutch at all when the pedal isn’t pressed.
My gearbox changes gears fine, but i feel in the clutch pedal like something is grabbing when i press it. Makes an audible clunk when i press the pedal. Adjusting the clutch cable would fix this issue? Also if i barely touch the pedal, say 1 cm, i hear a whining noise which disappears once i press the pedal herder.
hi, I have a 57 reg C1, do you reckon i could loosen mine to make the clutch slightly lower because the biting point is almost at the top and its a pain the arse to get used to
Eyup T Dog, I’ve just noticed the wife’s car is grinding into reverse, when the clutch has been up in neutral. How long is normal for the transmission to stop running once the clutch is depressed. Once it’s in reverse you can take it in and out so I don’t think it’s binding as such 🤔
Also when I adjust the nut clockwise the clutch pedal physically lowers in the car if that makes sense. Just done 30x1/4 turns and the pedal is quite low and still grinding into reverse.
Depends which way you’re looking at it, but you need to slacken the cable off which is anti-clockwise. Best way to be sure is to move it a little bit then test it to make sure you’re going right way.
Hi, my daughters C1 has a really heavy clutch. I suspect its the clutch cable causing this. Is it possible to lubricate it with say silicone spray or is it straight forward to change the cable for a new one?
Yea it’s usually possible to oil cables which can help, but I’ve not taken mine off before so not sure how fiddly/awkward it is on these. I’d say that there’s more of a chance that it’s the clutch itself that’s causing the heavy clutch. Mine was heavy before I replaced it recently.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos Thanks for the reply mate, I thought it was the clutch cable because the resistance was the same throughout the clutch press, I thought if it was the pressure plate the resistance would increase as you pressed the clutch. Other than the stiffness the clutch works fine. I'm not a mechanic so I'll take your advice and have a go at replacing the clutch first and hopefully that will fix the problem.
@@kampatel99as you say, the resistance does usually get stronger the further you press the pedal when it’s the clutch itself, so it could he the cable and if the clutch otherwise works fine I’d deffo try oiling the cable before a new clutch. My clutch was just hard all the way when it was shagged though, and slipping too lol
I just had a go at adjusting the inside bolt, the one that stops the clutch pedal, a size 15 spanner sits on it nicely but can i turn it? Nope..it isnt rounded either, spanner just slips off it -.-
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos it's quite similar, i tried doing It now, it's abit more tight around, so i had to take out the battery and it's tray, but unfortunately i couldn't turn the nut for some reason, it's solid hard. Just set a screw driver against it to relief some pressure but still couldn't turn it.
@@HeyJoeyYea I show the outer adjuster near the end of the video. In my experience that’s the one that usually seizes up though but yours is a newer car compared to the shit I’m used to working on 😂
@@MrEnigma64 cheers mate. Probably easier to go to manufacturer for something like that. They will be able to pull it up on a microfiche and find it that way, and should only be cheap anyway
Potentially. A cable that’s too tight can in fact cause a slipping clutch, but also the clutch could be worn. Try adjusting it first and see if it helps. Let me know if it does or not!
It’s deffo not the clutch I had a new clutch fitted yesterday and the mechanic messed it up by tightening the cable too much as I told him the biting point was too high
@@kashif274 deffo try adjusting it then. You can turn either. To loosen it, turn the bit that hooks into the clutch fork anticlockwise as you look from the front of the car, or the plastic outer cable clockwise. Both will do the same thing. The outer one sticks and won’t move sometimes.
