Independence from state government? Chicago IS state government. The entire rest of the state has no say in national politics because of Cook county. I'm all for Chicago becoming a City State. The rest of the state would be much better off while Chicago burns to the ground.
Giving the council members the right to choose their own committees?! No offense but that just reeks of nepotism! I’m all for the city council being given more say in how Chicago’s run but I don’t want hear that Gerald got his seat on the City Housing Committee not because he’s actually good at it but just because his father’s in the Education committee. I want committee members who know what they’re doing in the committees where they can make contributions. If any one wants to know nepotism and bribery were at least 2 of the original driving factors for Chicago’s mayor having all that power in the first place 60 or so years ago.
