Beverly: How does stormwater runoff actually affect water quality?
Michelle: So when water is running across the land surface, if it's pavement or if it's grass, it's gonna pick up anything that it's in contact with. So if there is fresh fertilizer and grass, for example, it's going to pick up that fertilizer and carry it with it until it reaches a stream. If it picks up oil, which it may do on a road, it will pick up that oil and carry it with it until it gets to the stream. So that's how stormwater runoff affects water quality.
