One great thing you forgot to mention: Longbowmen keep their +1 Range bonus even when upgraded to higher tier units, thus making them the only ranged Land units of that unit upgrade line (so not counting siege units) to be able to fight from real range (since ranged units go down to a range of 1 in their higher tiers, but if they are made by upgrading Longbowmen, then their range will be 2).
Playing with longbowmen feels like having rocket artillery in the medieval era. Plus they upgrade into 2 range gatling guns/machine guns/bazookas which is nice too.
I LOVED England when playing them some years back! Omg I'm probably going to play them again next multiplayer game (which will be a while...I'm involved in tearing down the Aztecs with Babylon right now). My ultimate fave is Babylon for the Science win. Love it!
England is my go to atm my friend loved building a huge navy but he plays with Bluetooth and thinks it’s the best navy civ…. He’s in for a rude awakening
I like England a lot for Diplomatic Victories too. I try to b-line the great light house, then to Caravels to meet all other civs first, then to forbidden palace for the extra 2 delegates. The great lighthouse makes exploration less important so I can go down patronage before rationalism. And you can rig two elections at once starting when you get spies- usually by that point you will already be aligned with some city states so you can focus on further city states ahead of time, I usually use the longbows to quell any early game warmongers or to insure I’m not forward settled.
