The additional % yields for having surplus amenities outweighs the benefit of having a high enough population to close that gap once the city is big enough for a few districts
Yeah, I often see Civ 6 guides saying that amenities are a lower priority but I've had unhappy and unproductive cities and they're just frustrating. Always a good idea to trade for amenities from other civs if you can, and failing that, build some entertainment districts.
just watch any civ6 multiplayer streamer and youll see that amenities are everything. You basicly only build more cities or grow them if you can keep them extactic. At least if youwanna have a fun time vs deity or pvp players.
I swear the AI on deity is cheating. Not in the sense of extra warriors or bonusses on literally every resource, rather in the sense of resources it doesn't own. Turn 57/500: I attack the AI with 300 combat strength. It had 67. It was in the classical era. It produces an Archer in 1 turn, in a city with less than 4 production and only 1 citizen, which had produced a worker 2 turns ago. Turn 58/500: It has 160 gold. It promoted 3 archers to crossbowmen, and 1 spearman to a man-at-arms. 2 techs that are in the medieval era?? Promotions costing more than 160 gold?!?!
I mean, that's a well known feature in the game. The AI in civ is too dumb to actually outplay you and get ahead, so they just cheat. That's why you eventually just outscale them later on.
Pop is not even closely as important in civ as many ppl think. Its just important to hit enough pop per city to be able to place the essential districts you need to win. Production and ameneties are the real deal actually and the more pop you have the harder it gets to keep your cities extatic. Not much pop is needed for a good production output +wincon output. So instead of having big cities with more pop than needed its much better to have as many cities as possible while keeping them extactic and beeing able to build the essential districts. f.e. its usually better in the early midgame to have 10 cities with 7 pop and beeing able to build 30 districts in total and needing 10*4=40 ameneties than having 6cities with 13 pop equaling 30 districts and 6*7=42 amenities needed. Why? cuz you can build the wincon district/s 4 extra times and dont have to build something more suboptimal. Of course therefore the required space is needed and cities have to be settled as closely together as possible and reasonable.
I build every city to 20 pop just gotta either have a few good grassland tiles or ocean and if you have a really good flood plains and lucky resources you can get over 40 without trying
no, try to only grow them as big as needed fr the districrs you wanna place. Every extra pop takes precious ameneties and you wanna keep your plp extactic for the extra 20% bonjs on every production yield
@@manuelvo1798 how can you limit pop growth? Do you just stop building extra housing and farms? Cities naturally try to reach their maximum possible limit, don't the bonuses only apply when your city hasn't reached that cap?
