I ask myself, "How much would I pay to do today what these drivers did in this video?" They got to drive a JDM Type R and a Mugen RR back to back. The cars were undoubtedly new or close to it. That means both cars were unmolested and maybe even had clean paint. ...and they had the whole track to themselves. It wasn't timed (advertised, at least); they could just play around. So jealous.
ya i no, n its like u get 2 cars in 1 with the vtec engine. When u wanna get relax n cruise you got a nice economy car, but when u floor it, it changes into a performance machine, n u gotta love the sound.
@golferchin76 Thats the part where's the second last and the last corner... As the RR took the early apex, and planned to miss the next apex, so the Type R tried its luck to overtake using the apex for the next corner
remember though, those machines have been existence since 10 years ago. S2000 can't keep up, but NSX still could lap the circuit and dump the civic. But for the price, it needs to... :)
@Jbuds0910 this is what i found out in a fast google : "the Mugen RR sheds an additional 10kg (22 lbs) off the standard Civic Type R's weight, coming in at 2733 lbs. In addition to the weight loss, Mugen RR picks up 15 horsepower over the regular Type R. It's rated at 240 horses at 8,000 rpm Complementing the added power and and decreased weight are a new bodykit, upgraded brakes all around, a retuned suspension, new wheels and tires, and logo-emblazoned Recaro sport buckets.
IMO the Type R's are in a different category to an Evo. I'd more put it against the Mazda 3 MPS, VW Golf GTi, and other tuned, front engined, front wheel drive cars. Everyone knows the Evo's true and only competitor is the Impreza WRX STi. Though the Mugen RR doesn't appear to be that much faster than the Type R, it actually is since it has more power, adjustable dampers & various carbon fiber bits to lower weight. Plus only 300 RR's were made so its super rare, hence the price tag!
hey does anyone know where i can get or know what that little light meter inside of the RR's dash? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? the one with the red bars going up and down as he shifts? ? ? ?? ? ?
dang that RR is loud! at 1:35 apparently Mugen RR's LSD can't cope with the torque of the engine! at 5:20 RR turn in too late! both are great cars! In stock form Type R is amazing. Just add intake manifold, high flow filter, header, mid pipe, racing muffler, and piggy bag the ECU it will break the 240ps of RR, with just a couple thousand dollars of investment. Of course, do uprate the chassis and brakes.
true u could get a type R and tune it up but this is done by MUGEN not any other auto tuner.. i would get the Mugen type RR istead of tunnin it myself.
@wj0102 Thanks for pointing out. I watched it again and again and have to agree. But I guess you meant he late apexed to attack this corner? There's no next corner to cope with, it was a big constant radius but sharp corner followed by the main straight. at the track I often go practice and race, there's a similar corner. I can take a what I would call a less aggressive racing line or I can late apex. But his apex really feel a bit too late to me !
Listen to those K20A's scream! I'm almost happy there not available in North America, K20Z1 very similar in sound and as much power as the OG integra type R and the most important part... it's not over priced as fuck like the new type R will be for the next 8 years.
not trying to be a jerk but the Mugen Civic RR is 238hp not 260hp, and it's only about 26k in japan which isn't that bad. It's actually cheaper thabn the Mugen Civic that we get.
He brake very late and turn in so late and thus carried a speed which felt to me his rear could become unstable. but then it is his home court so he knew what's best to do at this track I guess.
gimme back my RSX Type S with AEM CAI, Comptech race header, DC TCS exhaust, Hondata reflash and some sticky tires and I will eat both of these Civics up. My dyno was 209whp with this set up.
yeah, because the torque of civic is really low, but the handling goes to civic. i love srt 4 neon the people that dont really know cars will say its ugly. it just needs to be re designed a little like the civic. the caliber killed the srt 4 name and dodge. lol. no one wants to buy it.
What makes the ITR a "true" Type R considering it's on the Civic chassis? I would say the DC2 was the most successful Type R. EK9 was underpowered. The EP3 was... ugly, but good. The DC5 was good but took Honda a long time to hammer out its ugly ends. The FD2... Honda looks like they finally got it right. I know it's 50% stiffer than the DC5, yet I cannot figure out how it is faster than the DC5 with 5 more HP and being considerably heavier. What is this sorcery in the FD2R...

@MithroJin you: realizes you own 1 out of 300 cars produced, ever in the whole world changes mind then later comes to the startling realization, that A. you should of been driving the civic if you couldnt even beat the evo in a quarter considering A. the Mugen RR weighs 2600 pounds and has 240hp meaning it easily runs mid 13's stock eating the evo B. then wondering why your even wasting your time drag racing a TRACK CAR?
its not that fast to be fair, for the price of the mugen rr, its defo not worth it. the type r is very fast and would be unnoticably slower except on a track. I'm not taking it away from the mugen rr, it looks fabulous and it IS fast, but i think you are paying just too much for too little. Ill stick with the evos to be fair, you get more for ur money
@juanox10 same motor, same drivetrain, same 6 spd. same limited slip. So what really is the difference?especially since the coupe here in america is almost the same body work. So you hate civics but you love everything that is in them? You pick an integra simply due to different sheetmetal? I have owned '04 RSX-S (DC5 integra) and '07 Si so don't tell me a im a dumbass please. lets keep it to facts. The only thing that differed from a mechanical standpoint was the hatchback trunk + $4000 premium
yeah but the civic rr is 260hp better suspention and handaling,gear ratios is better and short shifted..and other mods...i mean its pricy but your paying for the fastest 4cilynder engine n/a in the world...
Mugen FN2 is faster than Mugen FD2. Fact. STFU haters. Stop hating. Start appreciating real engineering. FN2 is the real race car. MUGEN FN2. Learn it. Understand it. Get with it. I'm awesome.
