Real life civil engineer plays building games in his spare time. I revisit the week 9 challenge on Poly Bridge 3 so that I can see what other people have done and learn from their hard work. I go on a journey of learning and hopefully teaching you something in the process as well.
I am a real life civil engineer with more than 10 years experience working as a professional consultant. I've been through all the complexities of designing something from scratch and then scratching my head on site trying to make things work with the contractor - all the while doing everything to strict timelines!
I understand I am not the only Civil Engineer into gaming and building things in games on RU-vid, but I am not here to compete. I am here to have a bit of fun making videos and learning to edit videos. So please join me along on this journey if you feel like supporting me 🤓. I am open to collaborating with anyone interested in gaming and/or Civil Engineering!

Hey Eclipse! Thanks for dropping by! It was a cool concept haha. When I first saw the level, I was like "whoa what is going on here" haha. Took me ages to find my first working solution! I got trapped into making a balancing see saw like thing, but it worked lol. All you guys that work on these weekly challenges make the game heaps of fun, keep up that hard work!

That was fun to watch. I especially liked the piece of road tipping over. 14:02 But what did you mean by "Maybe one day I join you guys, if I get good enough at this game"? That discord community is for every skill level. 😀

This "Include Cheat" option is for solutions not playing by the rules. If you have built a working solution, not breaking, under budget - there's an option to play this level with unlimited budget and/or unlimited materials. Like in 0:30 you see "Budget: $ 250,000" / "Materials: 10 road, 2 steel, 1 hydraulic, unlimited cable" / "Modifiers: Dollar icon, Brick icon" - if one of these "modifiers" is active, your replay will have a cheat flag (an exclamation mark) in the thumbnail. You can try by just clicking on the icon. There's also a mod for the game, allowing to switch on/off "unbreakable mode" or allowing unlimited length materials (like 20 meter steel). Also cheat flag. And there are ways (I don't know how to do it) to make cars fly, somehow done by squeezing road between the wheels or let roads fall on the vehicle. If game detects an accelaration that is too fast, triggers cheat flag is also triggered.

Ahhhhh interesting points about the cheat mode! It's cool the game has built in defections. It's good it has, so cheaters get caught when they submit these challenges! I've seen some of those crazy designs for all sorts of other informal challenges. Like making vehicles from bridge components itself. I'm going to give those a shot one day!

grr ... YT has "eaten" one of my comments again. I wanted to recommend two levels helping to get used to the hydraulic controller. Don't know why YT spam detection was triggered this time 🤔

Okay, I'll try again. Luckily I'm aware of YT "eating" comments, so I pre typed it in notepad and can copy-paste. Maybe YT didn't like the numbers in my comment? Whatever. Second attempt with numbers again, maybe it works ... That hydraulic controller - with this you can decide what is moving in which phase. Like which hydraulic needs to go, which split joint needs to open etc. I have made two easy levels showing what the hydraulic controller can do. "Air Show" - 3025413785 - You basically need to build four 90° flaps. But they can't open/close all at once, they need to be controlled individually. 3 way split joints are needed to solve this. It's okay to watch the replays first - just to see, what needs to move when. Another one would be "ZigZag Up'n'Down, Left to Right" - 3176263877 - that's quite a bit harder. But just watch the replays. There are solutions using kind of a "walker", these are more advanced. The easy solutions are those with the moving "arms" passing along one piece of road. I think if you manage to copy one of the shown solutions to each level, you have already learned a lot.

Now I'm confused. Seems to have worked? First attempt I wrote "Workshop ID" before the numbers.

Thanks for the determination to push through the aggressive YT filter to get the messages across to me! 🙏 I've got your comments saved so I can try these things and learn more about the game! Thanks for all the guidance man, I really appreciate it! I'm very curious to go check out those levels now and make it happen!! There are so many things to learn about the game!! I feel like the learning is endless

@@RookieGamingEngineer ... it is. Don't know how much time you sink into it, but there are some players I absolutely admire what they can do with hydraulics. Or sometimes even without hydraulics. Just with some weight driving a fancy mechanism. Sometimes I just browse the gallery. And if I see a nice bridge, I click on that "click to view all videos by XYZ" icon. Some players have a pretty recognizable "style". So browsing the gallery I often know just from the thumbnail, who has built it. Like "that's a Rembrandt, that's a Picasso, that's a Mondrian" ... [Unfortunately the gallery is a bit buggy, repeats like page 12 or so ... sometimes later, sometimes earlier. But still interesting. I often find players I want to learn from].

That is an amazing comparison comparing the work to artists. I do know what you mean with some of the bridge building I've seen on RU-vid too. I guess it'll be a matter of time if I keep doing this, then one day I'll probably start seeing the same patterns and trends haha
