I’m sorry, I attended an early screening of this (It’s good) but the tone of this trailer is completely off. The actual film is more of a slowburn drama that ends on a big action set piece.
I mean most movie trailers do that they splice together all the action sequences just to build up excitement to draw in crowds, I just watched the movie and agree with your assessment.
This movie, although would probably represent what would happen in a civil war, had one major flaw. The media who was glorified in this movie would most likely not be given a bye by either side. They are in fact why this country is divided in the first place.
Not in the world portrayed in the film. In that world it's more black and white , the president extended his 2 year term into 3 terms, probably by some security reason. Then Texas and California horned forces together and rebelled. Probably took over fast a few military bases and expanded from there. They might have wanted journalists on site to document what happens so it legitimized the new government thst would be set afterwards.
The difference is they’re a press agency. Not a media company, they simply give photos on the ground and a few words about what happened. The media companies do the spins on what the press agencies send out. Still, they probably wouldn’t get a pass given the divide and outright hatred of media coverage in general.
@@jonathonyates6221 Films have different marketing strategies for different demographics. At the end of the day it has to make money. I'm sure this trailer will bring in more people than put off. FWIW I love A24, and think this trailer does feel different from the tone of their usual art-house style. But it's understandable why they've done it.
I read a review of the movie and apparently it’s about showing the awfulness of war. The people that have been nonchalantly throwing around Civil War as a solution to political problems, instead of suggesting compromise and mutual respect, need a wake up call.
@NickCager no that was definitely the point. They even go so far as to not mention any politics that led up to the war because it doesn't matter. War is awful and there are a million ways to compromise before it's done at the barrel of a gun.
I feel like the trailer did the perfect job, making people (including me) think this would be more of a hollywood hard-action movie. For me its the best Anti-war film i've watched in a while, and one of thr first movies that made people dying, actually feel like their dying.

@@PrincessVelaryon I just watched it it was nothing too special. The trailers are definitely over hyped. Of course everyone will have their own perspective but I personally think it was 💩
@PrincessVelaryon Very very good IMO. One of a kind. Very anti-war and it had heart. The action was really well choreographed and realistic. The interpersonal drama was relatable and existential without being over the top. The tension was palpable in every scene. The pacing was consistent. The cinnamon topography :) was just fine and the story itself was a slow burn with events along the way.
I always wanted to be a war journalist, after watch this movie i feel my mind would break. The movie its not about civil war but photojournalist and war journalists
this is just a weak argument to romanticize violence and poor quality suggestions to people, in entertainment. i say this also bothered cause there are actually great actors.
lol funny that you had to watch an american film on the topic to find it unbearable. when it comes to photographing third world massacres, you're basically fine with it. absurd degree of self-centered thinking.
I'm not American, but I hope you're wrong. Edmund Burke (1729-97) said it better "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Civil War is more docu-drama than war or action film. Once upon a time, there were more films with a message - big shout outs to Oliver Stone for Salvador (1986) JFK (1991). Costa-Gavras' Betrayed (1988) and Mike Nichols for Charlie Wilson's War (2007). Civil War is an amazing film. Hardcore and demands 100% concentration.
absolutely floored. watch it a second time and you’ll get it three times as much. yes it’s abt war and trauma and in a very timely manner but it’s also abt appreciation of art’s nature of showing and expressing life. i like to believe the perspective is so neutral bc we’re also supposed to be the journalists right? it was breathtaking watching it the second time. it’s almost too much to comprehend emotion-wise that most of it goes over our heads and we view it more painfully compressed than it is.

Everyone needs to see this film. Hence this sarcastic bait n switch trailer. Come together and love thy neighbour. Respect differences of opinion. Agree to disagree. Otherwise this divided country, love, life, and freedom are lost in hell. Gone forever. Make your choices carefully. The future of this nation and your future depend on it.
I think being polite is just the beggning. America has great issues adressing minorities needs, support the war in other countries, debt, drug-addiction, corruption, and govermental lobbying causing ambiental damage insde and outside the country.
I hope you’re right, but as far as I can see now is only division. If this nation could agree on a good leader, I think that’s where it needs to start. No more wars, no more special interests groups. No more elites interfering with policies.
it sucked, I walked out of it. There is nothing redeeming or educational or though provoking about this film. It was a road movie with a sprinkling of fire fights here and there... I don't know what happens at the end because I really didn't give a shit when I walked out to get some food, already wasted my morning thank god it was a matinee
Just saw it. You HAVE to see this on the big screen. One word: "intense".The sound design is incredible, you feel like you are in the fray. My stomach was in knots for most of the movie. Just don't go in expecting a popcorn action movie, it's not that type of movie.
I saw it this evening and I think there was quite a lot of action outside what's shown in the trailer. But even the "driving and talking" parts were still good imo.
yea i still dont know if the revolution was redpill or bluepill... a mix of both i guess. not bad. only the press was unrealistic and annoying bc thats not mainstream media in real life
People and critics are missing the an important thing about this film that apart from the polarization of the country, Garland is also criticizing the media.
I haven't watched the movie yet, but from what I have seen him say in interviews he's doing it in a pretty nonsensical way. Garland complains that the different media outlets are biased in different directions and that this contributes to the polarization of society, but the reality is more that some media outlets have become straightforward propaganda to such an extent that, at least to their core audience, they make relatively sane reporting appear as 'propaganda' for the opposite side. This is a conscious, planned effort to win in the battle of ideas that makes complete sense when you cannot win in any fair battle because your ideas are only meant to mislead and fool people. In other words, what Garland is saying is actually very short-sighted. It would be like seeing two people argue about whether tobacco is bad for your health and claiming that, because one person says it is bad based on scientific research and the other person says it isn't bad merely because they represent the tobacco industry, both sides are 'biased' and contribute to extreme polarization. In reality, one person is 'biased' towards the truth, and the other person is simply lying out of dishonest personal interest.
Yes and no. It's also about accepting to witness and report the violence and not taking part (the job of journalism basically). But the movie tells also how scary the mood in America is, right now.
@@Vamosa007 Nah. We wanted to see a movie about what leads to the civil war, the politics, the different factions, the escalation of violence. This was a movie about desperate press members trying to get the big story during a civil war. It's civil war themed, but not really about the war itself.
@@Vamosa007 this doesn't really show how the war broke out and they sorta mention about it at the start but mostly this was near the end of the war and about journalist trying to get the big photo/story
I saw on Wikipedia and the AMC app about this movie being an action film, but then I saw some other reviews saying that it’s more like a drama film and this is not a whole action film
@@VincentAlfonso I mean... there's less action than the trailers imply, yes, but it's not exactly "light" on the action or brutality lol. It goes hard. And in IMAX, especially. This movie wasn't really about left versus right. It was about feeling sorry for the journalists who are put in the middle of the war. This is Journalist solipsism.
Yuep, and their predecessors were the main causes of it. I feel more sorry for the people who are dragged in because social media did it for their sick entertainment.
This is in no way solipsism. It highlights a profession that is heavily overlooked, these guys should be just as respected as the soldiers, maybe even more to go into war without a gun. They don’t do it for fame, they want to tell the world what is actually happening with no government bias.

People seriously missed the point of the movie. Not explaining the causes of the war, not telling you who is on what side, etc. That IS the point. The whole film is about war reporters covering an absolutely hellish war in our home country. We don't need to know how it started or who is who in a particular scene. We just need to know that war is brutal, unrelenting hell and innocent people get caught in it. Complaining about it is complaining that the movie didn't tell you how to feel and admitting you can't have a reaction to things on screen without prompting.
I disagree. There should have been a back story and not just shootings and dead people. The movie reminded me of the Bosnian war and Sarajevo in particular. We know how that war started and why.
@@cecarblanco9933 it's not about the backstory or the why, though. It doesn't matter. What matters is the war is happening and people are being affected. That's why there are scenes of two sides shooting at each other and we aren't told who is who
@@cecarblanco9933 ok and? There's multiple scenes where the viewer does not know which side is which. That's the point of the film. The sniper scene stands out the most.
@@souffle01 People watch war movies for the battles. War journalists and EMT'S and ER surgeons and the folks who gotta clean up dead bodies deserve a lot of respect, more respect than they're getting, but a film with Civil War in the title is going to be a disappointment for most when it's not about the actual battles. Imagine the Civil War of the 1860's happening today and what that would look like. That's what people were hoping to see. That would be freaking amazing. War is hell and mostly suffering but the battles and strategy and technology and bravery involved are fascinating. The journalist perspective is a neat idea but IMO they screwed that up with making it look a bit like a selfish endeavor more than "we must document this for history so that it never again gets repeated". We end up seeing this 23 year old woman being a total A-HOLE getting interesting characters killed.
But there were tons of battles what are you talking about? There's the battle in the concrete apartment ground floor with the guy getting shot and dragged away. There's the sniper battle. There's the battle with Plemons. There's the helicopter blowing up some buildings. There's an entire ground battle at the end. There's an interior invasion of the White House. Like 50% of the movie was battles.
The movie was terrible about an adolescent girl that got people killed because she thought she'd play with the grownups. Totally dumb. If you expect anyone to believe that a 120 pound teenage girl running around an active battlefield you're delusional.
Watched the film without seeing any of the trailers. I enjoyed it and was very confused as to why people were hating on it. After seeing this trailer I can understand why. Good film, I just think it wasn't marketed correctly and that's what's responsible for the amount of dislike. Even some of the movie posters on social media are being generated by AI and show cities that aren't even in the film like Los Angeles and Chicago. I think whatever company was responsible for distributing the film and running marketing really messed up the perception of the film.
Those are the only states that WANT to secede...as in the movie, Florida considered it. Texas was the Republic of Texas and when permitted by Polk, had to BUY our way in.

I didn’t know about this movie but I had a dream where a civil war was started where the media told the public to not get out of their home due to lack of safety it was a evening dawn time and and ambulances where rushing in every parts even the governments or police or military could do nothing about this issue the streets were empty like the time of covid lockdown ,,,, and all the pressure was on the citizens …..
Of course... Because America is too big for single ideals through democracy. It's like taking all of the EU and making it one country. The only way America works is oppression. If we tear down DC then it's inevitable America will become multiple countries.
I just came back from seeing it, and it was actually a good movie. The crazy part? it can really happen if the people came together, and it will come down to what side you're on.
also just came back to it. I call it War Crime Photoshoot with my friend, and it felt a bit too much realistic, though I take comfort in the fact that I am Canadian and that canadian civil war and revolutions generally happens in a hockey arena! XD
The last civil war ended in 1865.having said that, I think it was important for the movie to begin with "how it got started". Instead what we got to see was, 2 journalists emotional journey in a world of violence. It felt like an elevated "the last of us" episode. I switched off half way.
For us Brazilians it is a great honor to have Wagner Moura playing an important character in the film. Going to the cinema to honor our great pride, already knowing that the reviews are positive. 🇧🇷

A film based on a Civil War breaking out before a highly heated election year is so unnerving and irresponsible. When literally about 1/5th of the U.S. populist is saying there'll likely be a Civil War in the next decade should send shivers down the spines of everybody. It won't be like our first Civil War, nobody is going to come out of it for the better. The weapons of destruction have eclipsed what we knew prior. The civilian causalities and infrastructure damage across what used to be a Nation will be unperilled. If it should come to pass then we can kiss being the World's Super Power good bye. China or Russia, likely China will become the new World Super Power because we'll have allowed political, religious, ethnics, etc divide us vs coming together and better ourselves. Really, if people are so dissatisfied with the U.S. Government or State/Federal officials Elect somebody else. If the track records of them getting what you want done is tracking vote them out. If they can't pass a simple litmus test based on your core principals/values abstain your vote or don't vote for the individual or find someone who aligns with you an vote for them. Don't adhere to what others tell you, even if it makes you feel like you are apart of something inclusive. Do what you feel is the best course of action for you. Self educate yourself. If something sounds to good to be true, it likely is so look into it. If your unsure look into it. If you simply want to know more look into things. And above all that does not mean strictly taking a single source as correct at face-value, challenge everything. You'll all be far better off once you have.
note.....this is what the government wants. They have their bunkers, and they know they cannot explain the $35T debt they have accumulated in the last 30 years

I absolutely cannot stand another comment like this... Dude if you had more socio-political intelligence than just "California liberals and Texas conservatives hate each other", you'd understand that this is 100% plausible. Both states have economies bigger than countries and could stand on their own, but more importantly these states are the ones that talk about secession the most. Sure they are for vastly different reasons, but some in both states WANT and know that they could secede under the right circumstances. I see it as fascinating, it's not entirely impossible.

The only problem I have with Hollywood movies in the last 15 years is that they are propaganda films whose purpose is to blacken Americans and America. The results are seen in the youth, the hatred for themselves, the hatred for America, the hatred for everything that is right and moral, just because they are influenced by delusional movies, series, and songs. Hollywood is responsible for everything wrong with America.
Hollywood has a lot of blood on their hands, I agree. I think the reality is people are much less angry and hateful than these social media platforms would have us believe. Those who are constantly following the fear-mongering get sucked into a vicious cycle that builds more and more hatred. I am trying to pull myself out of social media platforms altogether. It is not easy. They've got a generation addicted.
I hear you. People don't want tax money being sent for, let's say: Ukraine. It's been 2 years & 3 months. If we were living in that environment of WAR, we would be wailing for our allies' help. If our government asks only for us to help via paying our taxes, I am fine. We still have the comforts of our home, family, food, other necessities.
