My Great-Great Grandfather was a POW at Andersonville. He managed to escape and made it back to his troops. He went on to capture the enemy colors and an enemy Colonel in the Battle of Spotsyvania Courthouse, for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

My 3rd great grandfather died in Andersonville. Horrendous conditions. Kirton, Richard. Age 35. Residence Muscatine, nativity England. En- listed Feb. 15, 1864. Mustered Feb. 27, 1864. Taken prisoner July 22, 1864, near Atlanta, Ga. Died Oct. 1, 1864, Andersonville Prison, Andersonville, Ga.

Out of curiosity, what did the Confederates do with black POWs? I'd imagine they'd send them to the fields, but they didn't address this in the video.

They were returned to their “owners” when possible. Otherwise conscripted to labor under the CSA and usually worked and starved to death.
