LG, Denis

Thanks for the video! I had my eye on this one. I have the We esprit, which is by the same designer and so similar that it didn't make sense to buy the sokoke. It's a really good design, so good on them for making it more available.

I am glad it was useful. The design is good. I like the shape and the grind is really thin, good thumbstud placement... I sharpened it at 14 dps and now it is .3 mm (12 T) behind the edge...2 Things I think could be improved. The micarta they use for the handle scales and the pocket clip. I roughed the micarta up with some 100 grit sandpaper but it has not helped much to improve the feel in hand. You don't like micarta anyway so if you'd ever get it(out of curiosity of as a gift for someone else) you would probably get the g10 version.

@@SpartanJohns I would indeed! G10 has never disappointed me, and I feel like I always know what I am going to get! The Esprit has this really nice orange peel texture on the titanium. My latest Civivi is the Synergy drop point. It has nicely milled and contured G10, a great action and is also very slicey. Plus the blade just looks great to me. Really glad Civivi is doing some more interesting things than the elementum these days.

I know the Synergy Drop Point. It looks great. IMO Civivi is doing a lot of cool models. But...i am considering an elementum button lock(the old version without the fipper). I like their thin grinds but none are better than what they put on the Elementum. You are right, the knife is boring, but it works. I compared it with my Bradley and the Elementum was ahead even if it is smaller. The Sokoke really spoke to me for some reason. And I like it more and more. G10 is nice...and I agree with what you said: it hardly ever disappoints!
@1jaasuh
@1jaasuh Год назад
@@SpartanJohns you should get the old button lock elementum. Mine has been commandeered by my girlfriend (she opens and closes it with two hands), and it's thin hollow grind makes it really good. I'd recommend it! Though the micarta would disappoint you too I'm afraid, very plasticy.
@SpartanJohns

I assume like the micarta on the elementum I have and the one of the Sokoke. That would be ok. I was planning on getting that Elementum but the Sokoke took its place.

I was considering that, because it's like a front flipper similar to the conspirator, but I like the conspirator so much, I'm plenty content with just it. Also, the micarta on the conspirator is like the chevalier, which I like, so that also makes it less desirable, because I don't like the plastic micarta feel, too much resin for me. Thanks for mentioning that. I got the black and green also, great color combo.

The micarta(because I know they can do it better) and the pocket clip(similar to the elementum-you can feel it move in the palm when you cut harder things with the knife) are the only "negative" things I have to say about this knife so far. If you choose the g10 version....i think it would be a better choice...it would be a bit heavier....but would also feel more stable. As such..it feels plenty stable but a bit light(which is appreciated by many people-about 100g) and the grind is superb. Very thin. Placement of the thumbstud is also great and the action is superb. I have been looking at the conspirator for a while. It looks like it is a very solid blade. I like the shape of the handle and the broad design. The fuller looks nice. Their button locks with green micarta/black blade look really awesone. The Sencut Crowley is also nice. narrower profile.

@@SpartanJohns, yeah, same with the moving clip on the conspirator. I've seen people buy the aftermarket milled clips, but I haven't looked to see if there's a black one to match. I still really like it though, especially the fuller, which is nice and deep, so you can open it easy. I chose that over the chevalier, because I heard people complain that the fuller wasn't crisp enough for reliable deployments. Thanks for the info.

I got a titanium clip from civivi...tried it on the Chevalier, on the elementum, on the sokoke..and on the sencut crowley. it works but....feels wrong. I got the T001D. I thought about making a video about it...did not know if anybody cared...is this the one you're talking about?
@Gman1024

@@SpartanJohns, yes, I believe so, it was either a we or civivi milled clip. Looks good, but with no contour, I can see how it can feel wrong. Thanks for the model.

Thank you for the impressions! The texture on the Micarta is a Bummer. Have the Civivi Elementum Button Lock (First Gen without Flipper) and like the Micarta quite a lot. Not as smooth as on my Giant Mouse Ace Biblio, but not as grippy as on my Cruewear Micarta PM2. Just to get an Idea. The Bladeshape and all around Design is great, though! My Civivi Baklash is a steeper and Hollow Grind. Came very sharp and was easy on strop. Really looking forward to your Review!!

I just published the testing part of this video. I have been playing around with it. I roughed up the micarta scales twice using 100 grit sandpaper and 240 grit sandpaper. The color was brighter for a while but the feeling in hand was almost the same. The Micarta on my Elementum(flipper/linerlock) is a bit nicer than this one. This one just feels "plasticky". The pocket clip is a bit....not bad but could be better. Still I must say: I like the knife very much! Grind is superb. I dropped the edge angle at 12-13 dps and it is now at .3 mm(12T) behind the edge which is impressive! I really like this knife. Currently I am testing/carrying a Manix2 in S110V, but in between the knife i am playing with the most is this one. Thanks!

@@SpartanJohns oh ok. That is what I expected. Micarta stays the same, even with some work on it. That is like 30% of a knife. From your thoughts on it, I'm torn between adding one as a beater or skipping it. Tend to skipping as it would be a sidegrade addition to other budget knifes I already have. Better keeping the cash and save up for the Synapse XL, from Vero. Last december I also got a Manix 2 all black. It's the S30v variant and I like it. Not as much as my Shaman or my PM2s but more than the Para 3 S110v, I had. The Para 3 S110v chipped on me in the garden. Just cutting back some single branshes, which were thin and green. Totally shocked me. So I'm very curious what you tell us about the S110v. Have a great time!
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns Год назад
@@MartinLeschinski the handle shape and the thin grind make the sokoke a very nice edc/beater knife. maybe the g10 version would be the better choice? As for S110V....I kept hearing that it 1. is dificult to sharpen 2. is chippy 3. wont hold a very sharp edge but a "working edge" for a long time... that is one video i already made...but when the "whole manix/s110v series" will get published....it might be a while. next up, i will probably publish the series on the Bradley 2.

@@MartinLeschinski I made this video on the 28th of last month. If you feel like wasting 15 minutes of your life here is the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5HRqVuHMST4.html The whole series will be on my patreon page most likely.... That seems to be a common finish for burlap micarta and I don't like it. I much prefer canvas and linen micartas in general. They seem to have a much better feel in hand.
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns Год назад
I don't like it either. For this model the G10 version would probably be the better choice. If it had a sturdier pocket clip and the micarta would be better it would be so much better.
