When it comes to tying streamers for targeting big fish, Chad Johnson knows his stuff. As head guide at Dally’s Ozark Fly Fisher in Cotter, Arkansas, CJ has spent well over a decade guiding on the White River and the Norfork. He also has a handful of flies commercially available through Montana Fly Company, including the Sluggo and the Big Johnson.
Since adding it to the bins, CJ's Mini Johnson has quickly become a shop favorite. Coming in around 4" long, this mini version is a perfect scaled-down model of its daddy, the Big Johnson. And similar to its parent, the Mini Johnson is super light and moves water like a dream. This fly can be fished for trout, pike, muskie, and even bass. The Mini Johnson has beautiful movement in the water and is an essential in all our streamer boxes.
In this video, Anglers All resident tying expert Delaney Chapman takes us through the process of tying the CJ’s Mini Johnson from start to finish. To make the most of this tutorial, use the timestamps below the fly recipe for navigating to the part of the tying process you'd like to see!

Nice tie. Why do you wrap the materials anticlockwise and your thread clockwise?

Helps lock the materials in place and adds some durability!
