Cj plays the drums so casually, looks like if he had 2 more arms,he could make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and still stay in the pocket, never missing a beat
@@drummingtutorialsandcovers The last I heard he was playing with R&B singer K. Michelle's band but I don't know if he still is now. He used to play with John P. Kee he plays with a lot of gospel musicians.
+James Johnson Big time. Love hearing the bass accompany the music instead of dominating. Stand out when necessary but cooly hold the song together otherwise.
0:00 - 0:32 Walk by faith 0:33 - 2:05 Never shall forget 2:06 - 3:39 Stand! 3:40 - 4:34 They that wait 4:35 - 5:19 Rain on us 5:20 - 5:33 The lord is Able I tried the best i can so if i make some mystakes don't hesite to correct me! Bless y'all!
It's nothing to really study. It's called being a musician and taking lead. Just because most drummers have a little bit of chops when playing in bands or are told not to overplay doesn't mean this guy invented something. I told my drummer friend a while back every musician can lead.
I know NOTHING about music or instruments, but watching this young man on the drums is utterly amazing. Glory to God for the vessel that he has imparted such talent in. AMAZING.
somebody labeled him COLD-BLOODED. YEP, I agree. REALLY? aint no words to describe this man. he is very talented. I can't understand how he plays all them poly-rhythms, but still manages to fall in-time with the song's structrure. it ain't just him, most of them new-skool Gospel Boys all got that same thing. it's a nu way of playing drums. me being old-skool, I flat-out love what these cats are doing now adays. CJ is a beast, yep. he da man !!! keep on doin your thang YOUNGBLOOD !!! UM VERY IMPRESSED.
WOW. And WOW again. All I want to add is, J.P.K. band is not shy in the rehearsing department, DANG!!! Just shamefully too COLD, lol, no matter where you see/ hear them. It hurts so good.
That man so bad he pulled his phone out and checked it while still beating them drums crazy yooooo now if that isn't talent by that time my sticks would've went flying everywhere look at God given talent being used ❤️♥️🙏🙏❤️❤️
The way I HOLLERED OUT LOUD when I read this!!!!! HILARIOUS ... but I get it! God bless you for being a good sport. One ability to be confident enough in their own abilities to complement another is very honorable!
Double edge sword! This man is a fabulous drummer but so much so that it takes the focus off the message off the song. But then again, his phenomenal skills brings people through the door to hear the gospel. Talk about blessed with talent.
not takin nothing away from CJ but LaDell was John p kee best drummer. LaDell paved away for all who came after him. The chops and licks guys are doing today he was doing that in the 90s. But much respect to Calvin, chris, and cj
@Andrewills yessir big bro Calvin has definitely changed the game in a good way. He's a beast. But Idk LaDell playing just captured me better. He was the coldest pocket player in gospel in the 90s. But I feel you though.
...it's their internal clock...which is always "groove perfect" :-) Drummers like CJ, Tony Royster Jr and Thomas Pridgen seem to approach doing really fast fills, almost like Trinity's building leap in the first Matrix movie :-) They "leave the ground" on a beat (and not always a downbeat) of their internal clock, then just let their muscle memory take over "in the air"! Lol! Their internal clock is locked/synced to "the groove", so all they need to do to "stick the landing" is re-assert control on "the one". Being able to consistently "land on the one" is what motivates these guys...not the fills.
I gotta say after durrher listening I wanna say thw rhythm section on a whole is just in the zone. I feel like yall just living in the sweet spot here. Your hits/attack are absurdly tight together. Truly inspiring. I'd kill for a rhythm section like that. I mean i have agreat bassist, but drums are tricky because we in the strings often speak a different languag with the bassist kinda being like the interpreter.
I don’t see how someone can thumbs down on this unless they hating smh this guy is amazing. I always been a John p kee fan anyway just being from Durham myself growing up in church playing drums myself listening to his music 💪🏿💪🏿❤️
My favorite is the groove they go into at 2:48. It is so cool to me when a drummer has such incredibly perfect rhythm, it just makes everyone naturally rock their head to the beat. Love that.
**me sitting in a rocking chair 50yrs from now talking to my great grand son** Me: Yep, after I watched video I hung up my sticks and never played again. **looks off into the sunset** Me: I been playing the tambourine ever since
This is incredible, but yeah man those drums hella sharp. Metronome tight, chill like he set his arms on auto pilot. Just fire on every level. Where you guys performing out of, love to see this.
