Waves used to have real demo periods. This move to inserting silence on the track was a mistake on their part. As for resonance suppression plugins, I've never understood the appeal. I have Soothe and I rarely use it. It makes everything sound too lifeless and "under water" to my ear. It occasionally comes in handy if I have a harsh sound that I can't re-record or re-EQ for some reason. But it's not this incredible game changer for me that it seems to be for other people.

Yeah the waves thing is a bit silly. 100% agree with you on soothe. If i was sent something not recorded by myself, in someones bedroom, i could see it being useful, but yeah definitely can suck the life out of things!

Eric Valentine has come out with an update to the plugin that addresses some of the issues you talk about. And pricing has been halved. Good on him for both initiatives, but have to say I am a bit disappointed by what are essentially f-ups. By the way, he has said the plugin in stereo form is two 660s as he prefers the 660 sound. Still, a partnership with Kiive Audio / Mixland (16x over sampling!) and some further updates probably means it is worth a buy.

Yeah i caught this today while i was in final edit of this video. Maybe they should have had more beta testing? the no proper makeup gain dial threw me. They fixed that apparently too. I'm more disappointed with the sound i was getting. I might have to give it another crack though! Thanks for the comment.

Great episode! This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. Like the news format. Weaver beats is the only other format like this but its geared more to electronic beatmakers, as opposed to mixers. Love this!

I'm a studio one user for a long time. It's hard to see any actual value in the new version, and the new pricing scheme just doesn't make much sense to me. It would make more sense, to me anyway, if the ATMOS and video stuff were in another parallel version. Really, I dunno that there's been any real reason to upgrade since version 4 for most people. I stayed with 2.6 for like 10 years, and really it was just the fat channel stuff that got me to "upgrade", and that was out of a lack of interest in buying other companies' versions of the same hardware emulations that would require me to hold my nose and deal with subscriptions or onerous copy protection schemes. Meanwhile I'm purple with envy (though not as purple as you ;) )at the people snapping up the DIYRE Neve clones. I'd love to build some. It's comical how much more there is to them than the CAPI pres.

Hahaha! thanks Maggie. Yeah peterson from DIYRE just did a video explaining the extra gain stages of a 1073 mic preamp. I agree with you regarding the atmos stuff. it's not necessary for everyone, thats for sure.

I think CLA has a great mixing signature made over the decades. I don’t think he would be without a mixing desk, he is a promoter for his use of the SSL console and I wouldn’t hesitate to guess that SSL is building his custom desk already. His desk being that many years old is probably running in more and more maintenance costs so I could imagine SSL is building a new custom desk for him. ( need some money to fund that good time to sell unused gear )

Great point, I think he would probably be looking at a newer SSL duality or something for sure. As you said, The maintenance on an E series console would be nuts. Also the power consumption on those older desks is insane too!

Honestly I don’t see the hype in soothe2 so I definitely can’t see the hype here. Soothe2 isn’t terrible but something to me makes the vocal seem fragile after using it

Yeah i think it can remove a lot of the fundamental resonances of the original source, like as in the actual fundamental tones. It's a funny one.

I really appreciate your subjective demo of the Unfairchild but when I watched Eric Valentine's video he showed the curves of the original Fairchild as well as the other emulations and he actually extended the highs & lows on his hardware & the software. It has so many attack & release option I would think you could make it less grabby. Hope you post another video after you work with it for a while 😁

Just to clarify, I did actually try all of the different time constants. It was weird, just couldn't push it, but may have been a makeup gain issue. It obviously needs some more work, thats why they updated it. i'll have to try the updated version!

I love Studio one and the only crappy thing about the 7 is if you use Artist from buying an interface you will lose it which is not cool. I have the Studio Live 16A rack mixer as my main interface and it is great but I need more analog outputs so I'm getting the Motu 16A but Motu is backordered to 2025 which pisses me off. I put down 1200 bucks deposit and I've been waiting months and there are months to go until I get it. Not cool.

If only I had the money, but i'd honestly probably spend on something else. The tubecores do the vari-mu thing enough for me. I bet it sounds awesome though.
