Clamp holder is very handy tool. It often happens when you need to sustain a hose or a tube and you can’t find the yoke of the right size. There is a tool that can easily deal with it, clamp holder and a praise of wire. The resulting connection performs it’s function 100%. It’s durability is much higher than joining with a steel tape clamp. In this video you’ll see how to make the most convenient clamp holder of a simple wrench, which retain all functions.
The video contains instructions for the manufacture new way of a clamp holder, which needs a very short piece of wire. The preferred diameter of the wire for yokes is up to 2 mm, but in the same way you can make a clamp of any size in a few minutes, for any wire diameter.

Hello from Arizona, US! I'm Navajo/Zuni and I solder silver jewelry all the time. I took have made the other clamptite diy tool with a turnbuckle and wingnut. Initially using the clamptite tool surprised me how much wire was used because it doubled. I usually have wire long enough to use your tool with! I have to soften the wire with heat first if using scrap. I didn't think to soften the hex key. The ratchet side wrench is a plastic and metal battery terminal 10mm tool. I use x-acto knives that are round. The first thing I used your tool on was decorating my handles so they don't roll around so easily. I don't see your tool anywhere else and I am looking forward to using it with joining two poles together. The clamptite diy tools don't seem to like complex contours especially if the wires or some are pressing underneath obstacles. I'm simply attaching a hitch to my bicycle and I look forward to your simpler wire clamp design using your tool.

And I thought the wheel was already invented.... A lot less wire is right!! A couple things I like about this wire clamp tool, less wire, simple, not tools destroyed. Some of these wire clamp tools I been watching use 2ft of wire for the same size hose, and I'm sure it's still stronger than a worm-gear hose clamp and with nothing sticking up, thanks for posting.........

I enjoyed your video for its simplicity and elegance. When I went to my shop to duplicate the tools, I found I only had case hardened wrenches and Allen Wrenches. Before I could try out your idea, my challenge was actually to drill a hole through that hardened steel. You made it look very easy! I still have not conquered that hardened steel with cobalt bits or sharpened masonry bits. I cannot justify the cost of a pure carbide drill bit. Can you or anyone offer a solution to this?
@prismechanic
@prismechanic Год назад
It is good to drill hardened steel with an ordinary drill if it is heated and then slowly cooled, and then it can be made solid again if it is heated and cooled quickly, for example, in oil. But it is hardly worth doing this, it is easier to find an ordinary key made of fairly hard, but elastic steel.

If you really think that you need this tool(s) . You could go to a yard sale and get some cheap wrenches. I have seen this type of clamp on things in my 63 years. You may want to make this tool if you are restoring something and want original looking clamps. I think I would take the time to file the ends of the wire / and form them so it would not rip you open , like cutting them with dykes will do . All in all it is outstanding thinking 🤔.

I still think the other example of hose wire clamping looks more professional, also visually cleaner and evenly finished if you care more about workmanship appearance. However, both examples are equally strong.

The double wire creates a better seal. If the seal is not critical then this should be ok.
@peterfischer5420
@peterfischer5420 9 месяцев назад
I built a test piece with a rest of 30bar rubber hose and cast brass hardware, bearing 16 such double wire clamps. Then tested it with a manually operated Rothenberger Test Pump. It held 60 bar (the pump's max. pressure) for several minutes, then the one screw fitting for attaching the pump failed, because one part was only from a rolled brass pipe and obviously too cheap. From a similar piece with single wire clamps (created with a modified pair of pliers) one such clamp failed at around 48bar pressure. It is important to use annealed wire (wire which has neven been tensioned before).

Where to buy the 2mm wire? Steel or aluminum?
@prismechanic
@prismechanic 2 года назад
Steel
@seanseoltoir
@seanseoltoir Год назад
Aluminum tends to stretch over time, so it should be avoided... I've used 17 gauge aluminum wire for a temporary repair because that was all I had on hand, but I replaced it with steel as soon as I got some steel wire... I typically use 18 gauge galvanized steel electric fencing wire bought in 1/4 or 1/2 mile rolls...

@seanseoltoir

@@nunyabusiness3786 -- With the double loop type connector, it seems to hold up pretty good... I've used it for garden hoses (60 psi locally) and for my air tool hoses (120 psi is the most I run on them usually)... I like it a lot better than the screw type clamps even though it tends to take more time for *me* to install it... I would be interesting to see how much pressure it really could support... Maybe someone should suggest it to the ProjectFarm channel?

All great ideas. Both methods. But I have never run into a situation where I needed this tool. I always have or carry hose clamps. Course at my house but also in my vehicles emergency kits. I also carry hose adapter kits in case a hose is split severally. Then I can cut the hose and insert the adapter and use the clamps to fix the issue. When I travel I carry two 5 qt bottles of water. So again, not sure the real need of these unless you are just not a bit organized. So if you have this you should be able to have an assortment of hose clamps.

@@camojoe83 possibly. But in my experiance in over 35 years as a mechanic, hose clamps worked just fine. I'm not saying the tool is bad but I rather just keep a few clamps in my vehicles and be done with it.

I always just grip the two wire ends with a pair of needle nose pliers and twist until tight. No need to drill holes in your tools.
@KaylaJoyGunn
@KaylaJoyGunn Год назад
Yeah that doesn't actually make it tight enough for any notable clamping force. You need something that can apply a stretching motion and then twist, which is what wire clamping tools do.
@intjonmiller
@intjonmiller Год назад
😂😂😂 It really amuses me to think of you writing this without taking two seconds to realize that anyone who would do this has already done that. Like part of this process is twisting the wires so they don't come undone, and you assume it didn't occur to them to just twist? The leverage here provides an order of magnitude more clamping force than your method. That's the entire point.
