ClampTite Hose clamp tool

I saw this cool tool at the SEMA 2013 Show. It is made by ClampTite, basically it uses Mechanics wire to form a hose clamp. Looks like it works very well and simple to use. Much better looking clamp then the ugly regular screw type clamps plus one size fits all. Unfortunately I myself will never buy one as I can't justify the money they charge for these, Around 60 bucks.

I made a field repair to the handle of a 12lbs sledgehammer, we used it for months after that. I have wanted to make a larger version that would handle “coat hanger” weight wire. Not that I have a reason for that extra strength often, but it would be truly impressive....

I was so sick of dragging my repaired air hose around catching on seemed like everything. Then you grab the hose and slide it through your hand rolling it up and... wham... you run into that screw clamp with the sharp tail sticking out. My saying was... you got to have some blood to repair things. I saw this and made one. The first wire was too lite. The second wire too heavy. I did get 5 wire clamps that are working but I would rather have a heavier wire. So when I find the one great wire to use I will love this . I no long pull my air hose and hang up on things nor do I shed blood using the air hose any longer. Thanks for this invention.

I'm too cheap to pay the retail cost of the beautiful ClampTite tool too! So, I made one out of a stainless steel turn buckle body. The video how-to is on RU-vid. And let me tell you! I've replaced three or four dozen worm drive hose clamps on air lines, garden hoses, propane hoses, etc. I use it for the small crimp clamps on fuel pump sending units in automobiles when just replacing the fuel pump and not the whole assembly. Worm drive hose clamps catch on anything and everything... The wire clamps do not. Air hoses used in roofing jobs can't be repaired with worm drive clamps since the clamps tear up shingles. But, the wire clamps make damaged roofing air lines perfectly serviceable again. I'm fully converted to the wire clamp cult. Yes I am!

Not a chance , I've used both in the aviation industry and found that an aviation safety wire pliers uses the malleability of the wire which weakens it with each turn . The clamptite tool utilizes the tensile strength of the wire . If you use 304 stainless you can obtain up to just shy of 100,000 psi Tensile strength , it will actually hold hydraulic pressure, something the safety wire pliers couldn't dream of.

"Safety Wire" is Stainless Steel Wire, you get one thousand guesses, on what kind of wire this tool use's. It sure ain't "Galvanized Steel Wire," because you can't even get it to take more that a 1/4 of the force that a Stainless Steel Wire of the same Diameter can take/handle. How do I know, I built my own version, and tried the Galvanized wire, kept breaking. Then I tried the Stainless Steel wire, of the same dia., Night & Day difference in strength. Had I not tried the two different type(s) of wire myself, I won't have believed that the common Galvanized wire was so weak, when compared to Stainless.

Just my opinion... these may look great demonstrated at the fair... but as another commenter eluded, in the 'real world' there is very seldom (if ever) enough clearance around hose fittings for these things. In an emergency you'd likely be better of tying a constrictor knot (see Wikipedia) in some nylon line, and pulling taunt with a couple of Marlinespike hitches. Wire type hose clamps also subjects hoses to localized 'cold flow' deformation... there is more to all this...
@kappullen
@kappullen 5 лет назад
hose wiring has been illegal with osha for over thirty years. If that hose fitting breaks off or comes out that hose will whip under 125 # more or less pressure and those bent down wire tabs will cut your ass up.
