Make your own Hose Clamps for garden hoses, radiator hoses to hammer handles. Hose clamps have many uses: fuel lines, water hoses, oil hoses, hammer handles, etc. This video shows a demonstration of a small tool that allows a builder to fabricate any size hose clamp from a wire in just minutes. This is also a great emergency tool for repairing/replacing hose clamps in a hurry.

I had a friend that found an old double-bit axe head in the dirt, with her metal detector. It sat on a table in their porch for years. Last summer I asked if I could clean it up/restore it for her. It was caked & pitted with rust. She said I could. I let it sit in vinegar for 2 weeks, wire brushed it, light coat of WD40, & it looked really decent! Enough that I could read the brand stamped into it & value it at about $65. White vinegar is a Boss for cleaning things up!

A very good design. This excels where it's easy on the hand to get the "winding" of the wire strength. Other designs may be more compact when working around tight engine spaces but yet harder on the hand to tighten wire. I think i would like multiple styles of this tool for different jobs. Excellent video with excellent tips and tricks.

Looks like your wire clamps work fine. The cheap garden hoses don't last and usually aren't as flexible as a rubber hose. I have commercial rubber hoses that are 35 years old. Some still have original ends. If the ends get damaged it's usually because someone drove over it. The dangerous part with gear clamps is using a flat screwdriver to tighten the clamp while you hold the hose with your other hand. One slip and there's your stitches. Use a nut driver or socket to tighten gear clamps. You can tighten down harder and be safe.
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 2 месяца назад
Any suggestions on garden hoses? Our ends usually fail because of the thin brass that errods from our spring water. I agree it hurts really bad when you stuck a screwdriver into your hand.

I made a similar tool a few years back and have used it for mending quite a few garden hoses (dogs get bored and chew the hoses) utilizing 1/2" CPVC pipe cut for connectors... I also tend to cut a couple of grooves in the connector since I have a mini-lathe, but it works without that also... I'm using 18-gauge galvanized steel electric fence wire... I've used it for air lines up to 175 psi, but have never had the need to try it any higher... The only problem that I've had is when using it for small air lines (e.g. less than 1/4")... It's just a bit too bulky for those small lines and the line ends up twisting on me instead of tightening... For 3/8" air lines, it works great though... I've sliced my hands quite a few times over the years with those damn screw clamps... I hate them...

Not sure where this design came from but it is by far the easiest to make, no welding or machining. I’ll be making one but will add a 5/32” or 3/16” rolled pin near the clamp end to help with the bend over. The jig for making the clamps was worth the price of admission, I’ll make a board with maybe three different sizes.

Cool video, good clamps. Not only are those pissy screw clamps dangerous & hang up on everything then leak too...they are expensive & the screw rusts away badly particularly at the coast, then once again they are useless. They also damage hoses when tightened up
@cliffvaughn7378
@cliffvaughn7378 3 года назад
The only drawback to this is on a car many times you can’t get this type tool in to where the clamp needs to go and it is barely enough room for a nut driver to go eco on an outboard engineor lawnmower, but worth’s great when on a work bench and can get to it , would be difficult on bottom radiator hose but would work on top one , but heater hose is impossible with this setup

Excellent and simple designs great job I like the Simplicity of this tool when work in very tight places but still a great design for its application that you're using for good video an explanation excellent job! One Note: the winder could be a bolt with two holes drilled in it and you could use a quarter inch ratchet to tighten the bolt to be fastened with eclipse through the body of the tool once the where is been fed through you should bend them 90 degrees and clip the excess where off I thought that was a not safe while working. I need to make a wire clamp that can hold that rubber boot on the drum of the front load washing machine. The one that goes right behind the door. It is held by two clamps that are made of wire which I don't have and I don't to spend $20 for them if I can even find them. What wire may be the best so it won't snap and can stretch and perhaps tighten by maybe twisting it.
