Clarinet, French vs. German (with the same french mouthpiece)

Trying old german system clarinet with french type mouthpiece. I know it's silly but I don't have german type mouthpiece. Using a french mouthpiece with german clarinet causes intonation issues. Clarinet itself is not good tuning-wise.
So I was struggling with the intonation and mechanics of german clarinet but anyway it was interesting.

Mid-register E is so much better on a German clarinet. Sweeter, more compact. Very obvious.

Unfortunately, the player's hand was covering much of each instrument as he was showing it, so we couldn't get a good look at the keys, especially those of the lower joint where the differences are most distinct.

I bought an Albert system and could not get used to the fingering. It is relaxing in it's case until I sell it.😊

Yeah, I also don't like that it requires more finger stretching then boehm.

@@alexeysclarinet9109 For instance I play on Yamaha 650 for many years, it is not convenient instrument for me, but I played a lot, graduated from Music Academy by 2 degrees bachelor and master and still play on it, because unfortunately, I don't have money for more expensive instrument😅. But it still works for me cause I accustomed to it. When I don't play, after 1, 2 weeks it feel uncomfortable again. But when I practise, play exercises a lot, I accure it. The same with this stretching on Albert or Öhler. We are just accustomed to Boehm because played a lot on it.

It's comparing apples and pears. On the German clarinet one should use a German mouthpiece with a Germand cut reed. It requires a different embouchure.

I somewhat disagree. It feels to me that the only real issue with mixing German and French setup is intonation issues. Other things are pretty subjective as they are related to sound concept that can be very different from person to person. But you are absolutely right in terms that if someone wants to have clear understanding of what is German vs French then it should be only German clarinet, mouthpiece, reed and the same for French setup.
@heinvanmaarschalkerwaart9799
@@alexeysclarinet9109 Thanks for you answer. I have been a professional clarinet and bassclarinet player.of the german school in Holland and I am on pension now. The bore of tenon and mouth piece of german clarinet differs from the French system. Lay, shape and cut of the reed are also different. Funny thing is that the New Orleans clarinetists in the US used a Selmer Albert System with a French mouthpiece. Sounded Ok not fro classical music, though..
@alexeysclarinet9109
@alexeysclarinet9109 Год назад

The french system clarinet sounds to me more in tune. Probably this mouthpiece is not the best for the german system clarinet.
