not sure in what type of tears but as a brass player i aprov, randomly decided to get a clarinet today and im crying, why is it so ahehfhejf (coz im a trumpet player, after assembling the clarinet i went "ah how i misd me "assembling" my trumpet 0.5 seconds before our class starts playing (just throwing the mouthpiece into the instrument)
Put the ligature on first, pressing on the back of the mouthpiece to keep metal against the back and not on the lay of the mouthpiece. Push up with your thumb to make a space between the mouthpiece and the ligature in front. Slip your reed in. Adjust. No more broken reeds from your ligature.
Hahahaha! I have done many of those things myself. I switched to a Pyne string ligature. Have not broke a reed on my ligature in over 20 years! Best decision ever.
At least when you guys break a reed you can probably replace it. As an oboe player, breaking a reed feels like I’ve lost a child or a really expensive piece of jewelry.
I play clarinet, and my oboist ex-boyfriend treaded his reeds with such love. I of course handle my reeds gently, but when one would sound congested or feel wrong, I killed it in front of my other reeds to show them not to misbehave
Yes, this happens to me. Especially squeaking while we're playing something and I'm like "oh shoot-" and the other clarinetist in my section just looks over at me.
One time in band I said out loud "wow I can't belive I've never broken a reed" and then while putting the ligature on I proceed to stab and break not one, but 2 reeds in a row 💀
All aplies to me as both a Bb Clarinet player and Eb Alto Saxophone player, excluding Assembling the instrument for saxophone, I do indeed understand these struggles
Thats So true and when you are going to take your notes up on the note stand and put ur clarinett on the chair someone bumps into it and breaks ur reed
I was in marching band and one night just before we stepped off to start our show I broke my reed by doing number one. my teeth slipping in between my reed and my mouthpiece and just breaking it straight in half
When I was a beginner I thought the cork grease whatever it is cause I don’t play band anymore idk what it’s called but I thought it was chapstick and I thought it was for your lips so when you play you have a better sound so yes I put it on my lips and my teacher was just looking at me and sighing in disappointment I knew I did something wrong so he said it’s for the clarinet pieces and after that year I never played band again 😅
You're not alone there, my band teacher said someone else had done that too so the first thing she told clarinets was, "That thing that looks like chapstick, don't put it on your lips. It's cork grease"
Relatable lol, recently my sister made a tiny chip in my Reed and it been making me have slight squeaks. I'm just waiting until the end of the year until I use a new reed
I can't say I have ever mixed up my A and B flat. However, my first A I played on the upper keys completely fell off while playing Festive Overture. I eventually learned the to check that instruments screws all the time. I used it because it was the best sounding a the school had
that last one cracked me up. in high school i attended an oboe masterclass with the principal chair from the air force one band. they were doing the william tell overture and she showed us that they were performing an Eb arrangement. she was saying how the intro theme felt super wrong compared to the original which was met with a lot of assenting grumbles her reasoning (i think it was a joke) was that it made the fingerings easier for those finicky, whiny clarinets *chuckle chuckle* *slaps knee*
One time in marching band I was setting up my clarinet to practice for my band camp’s mini marching competition (my clarinet section won 😌) when I get out there to the rest of my section and look down at my clarinet, the ligature was gone, but the reed stayed on suppressingly. I eventually tracked it down but It had completely fell off when I was walking across the football field 😭🥲
Clarinet players have some hard ass parts for songs 😂 you can see how important some instruments are for some parts. Alto sax parts were way harder than than my bari parts ever were, so same goes with instrumnts like the clarinet and trumpet, usually those instruments have harder, louder, and more vibrant parts to match their vibrant sounds
i’m a clarinetist. only one in my band hour. i think the biggest struggle is getting lost on where you’re supposed to go and just having to stop. solos are TERRIFYING.
I’m a bass clarinetist, and a problem I have is the metal barrel (look up a bass clarinet if u don’t know. It’s the twisty part at the top) and it just flings spit .
the reed one always killed me, and that’s why i switched to a synthetic reed and why i keep my ligature on my mouthpiece and just slide my reed into place
I think I’ve gone through the most reeds out of all of our clarinets in my band class, to the point where I have a whole box in my locker and at least two in my case (not counting my rotating ones) mainly because I either jack it up while putting my ligature or I get mad and end up snapping it.
I play clarinet and I had to sit next to a flute player, he kept hitting me in the shoulder then apologizing for it, I was just like *”it’s fine,”* I just felt bad for the flute section being crammed together like that. There were so many errors in the original, just edited it to fix them.
It is so relatble and dont forget being called squidward and now im gonna tell a story of when the tip of mky clarinet broke so when we were normly playing in a concert for a school i placed my clarinett standing up and when i was gonna find the notes to the next song it fell off stage and the tip broke and I tought i was only gonna get a new tip but I got a whole new clarinett!
I’ve had them all over the last 42 years !! The worst one was the reed splitting Galway through a piece and the 1st clarinet had a solo (yea, that was me!!🙀🙀💩) I was so scared as it it went up to top G!! That was a nervous one but it did last…. Just !! I swapped to my A Clarinet and transposed the rest of the piece on the fly. I hastily put a reed in water to get it softer then put it on and tried it. Thankfully I’d tested the ones in my case and Reed Geek worked on them all. Got through the night but not my finest hour for sure !!!
I'm in middle school, but once you get in 8th grade in my school you play in the high school band... It is so fun playing in the football games with me lil clarinet.. I've only done 2 so far though... But it is great, also pep rallys...
@@hello_486 Yeah, for me the best part about the football games is that most of the band doesn't know how football works (including me) and just came to play pep tunes
i haven’t broken a reed in 2 months, i think i deserve a trophy!! lol i had to learn sleigh ride for my concert and you constantly have to go from high notes to a low a lower note, and having to go really fast is hard, and without squeaking or messing up too 🫥
Same here, I stepped on my clarinet ligature. I fixed it myself (which maybe I shouldn’t have done, but oh well) because my ligature was really flexible (for some reason)
the MOVING TOO MUCH is literally me in band, it’s bad because when u move to much u could accidentally hit the stand and it could leave a little dent, or we’ll it depends how fast or slow u move, and this is why I no longer try to dance while playing because this accident happens way to frequently for beginners.
