i think instead of proactively showing him how its done, you should demonstrate how to make contact to get the float, as well as show him where he needs to make contact on the ball in order to get a float so he understands better.

I do have a good standing float serve .My problem is, I am heavy, no core, and very uncoordinated at this is my first time trying this approach sequence for jump float. lol. my hand feels awkward as my hitting arm wanted to extend all the way back but do have enough time to swing to hit. also, i am getting tired so much with the jumps - reason why I avoided doing so all my life because I wanted to preserve my energy to jump for block or spike. let me know if you have any other tips.
