It's important to replace the edger pad as it wears down because the diameter of an older pad is smaller than that of a new pad, which could roll the sandpaper and cause you to damage the floors.
Here's the step-by-step process for replacing the pad on your Clarke 7R:
1) Place a screwdriver into the vacuum fan to secure it.
2) Use a spanner wrench to loosen the edger pad.
3) Install the new pad. Remove the screwdriver from the vacuum fan.
4) Adjust the casters. Place a piece of wood on top of the the edger to monitor the caster height. Lowering the casters increases the sanding profile, and raising them creates a deeper cut. Note that the 7R's casters are independent.
5) Dress the pad on medium grit sandpaper. The amount of dressing you'll need to do will vary depending on the pad. Dress the pad until the vibration is reduced or gone.
7) Bolt sandpaper onto the machine. Test the edger to ensure that the profile cut is right, the casters are spinning freely, there's not too much vibration, and dust pickup is okay.
