Clark Desert Boots Review - Clarks chukka boots are the most popular chukka style boot. They have been around for almost a century and some say they are the most comfortable boots/shoes around. So i cut some in half to see what's inside of them and why they are comfortable shoes.

If Clark's improved these boots by adding a shank would that be known as the Shoe-shank redemption?

I've worn Clark's desert boots for 40 years and currently own about ten or so pairs in different colors. You're right about their simplicity and the high quality materials. I belong to the crowd who holds these boots to be extremely comfortable. I never did need that much support in a shoe, just something sturdy to wrap around my feet. I can walk all day long on those crepe soles. I have one pair that is a quarter century old and still holds up to a good day's wear!

It is oddly satisfying how sharp that little hooked knife is.

These are so popular here in South Africa among the farming community they call it Vellies. When the sole is done they stitch a piece of Tyre track to it and it lasts years

Every time he cuts a boot I always think he's going to slash his hand in a bloody mess and continue the video like "Ahh f@k my hand!...no shank tho"

I believe desert boots were made for officers during the North African campaign. I think the reason why you don't have a shank, and made out of crepe, is because you need a bit of "flex" in order to scale up the side of a sand dune. Very difficult to walk up the side of a sand dune when you wore the old "gunner" boots, as your feet will dig itself into the sand up to the shins.

Hi, these were popular with British soldiers serving in the middle east and India, This was the informal civilian uniform “Mufti “ that was authorised when not dressed in issued uniforms. These boots were made by camp cobblers who would draw the outline of your feet on a paper and come back with a pair of boots the following week. The originally boots were commissioned in Cairo cobblers by South African soldiers whose old-military issue boots had failed them out on the desert terrain. We British soldiers who served in Africa, Muscat and Oman, Aden, and the Far East had at least a couple of pairs of these boots in our kit but always suede leather, and found them very comfortable boots.

I cried when you cut the Clarks apart. 60 years ago I was working and able to afford them. Less than twenty bucks. Best shoes in the world at that time. Thanks for the memories.

In Australia in the 70’s and 80’s, these were the go-to school shoes. I rocked them for all my school years.

I've worn these almost daily for 10 years. My second pair is about to be retired. They are the least waterproof boot I've ever worn. They are insanely dangerous on wet and icy surfaces. When it's dry there's nothing better imo.

I used to have the worst foot pain after wearing these. But they looked so good on and matched almost every outfit I was wearing at the time. So glad to see you review the construction in depth. I really just thought it was my flat feet that was the problem in comfort.

I have the low cut version of these in the beeswax leather. I find them very comfy and they do run a size large. Not really sure how to care for them, but I don't imagine they will really last long enough to worry about that.
