Spoilers for both movies. Both Outlaw King and Braveheart I enjoyed intensely, but for very different reasons and in very different ways. Note that this is primarily a thematic and story breakdown of the differences between the two movies, not a historical one.

Braveheart: good movies terrible historical accuracy has a semen receptacle Outlaw king: great movie good characters Bruce’s wife is not a semen receptacle she actually is a good character and it is one of the best historical accurate movies to exist

This comparison definitely did not do outlaw king justice. I’ve watched both of them, I feel that brave heart lives in the shadow of outlaw king. You don’t measure historical movies like this, you measure them by how historically accurate they are. Brave heart is a bad movie compared to outlaw king because it lacks that accuracy. And the characters behave much more accurately to the time period than brave heart which exaggerated it.

Braveheart good film: Total fiction. Outlaw King good film: Actually quite accurate.

I saw it as Braveheart was a story for people who didn't much care for historical accuracy. They just wanted to be entertained with a thrilling underdog story. Which is fine in its own right. Outlaw King, on the other hand, seems to have been targeted to people who were more interested in historical accuracies and realism rather than classic Hollywood grandeur. Personally, I preferred the Outlaw Kings version but that's because I prefer lullabies to rock concerts.

Great video. Refreshing to hear someone on youtube praise Braveheart instead of tearing it down based on some historical inaccuracies and deviations. Despite it's many inaccuracies it's still such an epic and moving film and I really wish there more movies being made like it nowadays.

I feel much the same way. It gets crap a lot, but it's a better movie than most people remember if you're in the right mood.

I’m so confused, better movie than most remember? If your in the right mood? Wtf. When braveheart came out everyone was BLOWN AWAY. Everything about it enticed the audience, gave them an adrenaline rush and providing your not a heartless piece of shit it made everyone cry at the end. It won countless awards etc etc, so apart from the infamous historical inaccuracies. Why on earth would lots of people bash the film or even attempt to act like it isn’t a good film. Seriously this is insanity to me.

I liked the way you summerize Roberts marriage with Elizabeth. I certainly enjoyed their relationship more then I did with the romance in braveheart.

Well, both Outlaw King and Braveheart are FILMS. Although the story of Robert Bruce might have been quite turbulent, dramatic story of a man, putting his life and future in jeopardy countless times, winning in the end, while the story of William Wallace is simply one about the revenge and stubborn defiance, FILMS can make the former easy and a bit dull, while the latter - extraordinarily passionate, heroic, romantic and bombastic in a way. They are still films.
@townsendm794
@townsendm794 3 года назад
Braveheart is a truly awful movie, and left my Scottish blood boiling! Nothing but Hollywood nonesense. Outlaw King on the other hand offers a far more intelligent look at the period. Yes, dull at times, but we don't need a silly story-line to appreciate our history.
@Clint52279
@Clint52279 3 года назад
As far as dull, Chris Pine is on record saying that despite his research he just couldn't get a grasp on the Bruce. Hence his detached, dull performance. He's a fine actor, and I understand they needed "star power" to sell the movie, however, they needed to work with him more to find the characters voice.

Braveheart is just pure cringe, Mel Gibson tried to make it out as though England was beaten by another skirt wearing tribe, when in reality Scotland had knights and their military and equipment was almost the same to Englands. Braveheart is complete garbage, at least Outlaw King tried.

Braveheart is overrated. It’s not the little stuff that bugs me, it’s the mountain of nonsense the writer shoved into the film. Guess Mel Gibson forgot the French love interest was a CHILD during the rebellion and had nothing to do with Scotland. Or how the battle scenes make no sense logically. Or how Mel uses the version of William Wallace that says he was married. Mind you, the version used was made a couple hundred years after, when the first writings of the event said nothing of him having a wife. I could go on and on but if Mel wants to make a movie made in history, he might as well do something like Inglorious Bastards. Because that movie was honest that it was fiction.

I think if the patriot all had guys in three piece suits and generally full of stereotypes and horrendous accents while being filmed in Canada, you might have a different perspective on why us Scots hate Braveheart. I think the problem is that Outlaw King rightfully assumes you know a bit about Scottish history. In the same way that movies about American movies don't spell out American history for a foreign audience.

Scotts should be thankfull for having William Wallace. This is the most known person around the world and person by whom Scotland is known yesterday and today and tomorrow. It happens I have in my DNA Wallaces as my relatives from period range of 500-800 years ago, with I2a2 haplogroup father side and belonging to Doggerland. My ancestor was Pavle Orlovic who died in Battle of Kosovo 1389 fighting Ottomans army caring Crusade Flag.

Braveheart was phenomenal although ridiculously historically inaccurate. BH is a tough act to follow but I think Outlaw Kung was a great movie on its own. I feel Outlaw King had too much to cram in to one movie and a would have been much better as a multi season series.

I would argue they are not both valid ways of engaging with history, my most deep problem with braveheart is that it champions the idea that if you believe enough in freedom and weed out traitors, anything is posible, this is a deeply troublesom narrative in history , because it presents the idea that failed strives or causes " simply didnt believe enought. History benefits from the detail and grounding. , else we get imbeciles in the USA yelling "molon labe " because they dont understand the reality behind 300, that the spartans were by all means the bad guys and the persians would be the nones with values far more like ours.
