Sonax Cut & Finish is even better than perfect finish. Tried it on black paint and it resulted in amazing gloss with bit more cut than perfect finish, and with zero dusting. Sonax abrasives altogether are amazing and worth every penny. Great review!
They’re the two polishes I use. I did a one step with S20 last year on my car and the same with Perfect Finish this year. Both great products which I would have little to separate them. I though Perfect Finish had the edge. So glad you tested them both in the usual high standard only found on this channel👍
I think it does have an edge in terms of the window range.. so more cut and higher gloss. Its also lighter to buff. S20 is still fantastic and I think it has the edge in terms of working times and value for money perhaps.. It really is hard to seperate them but going through the criteria in the video.. PF edged it, although that price hurts a bit.. ::) cheers Chris.
@@Tops1212 ...check out the Autopia Polish Chart Comparison. It rates the level of cut of several polishing compounds from least abrasive to most aggressive.
Hi John, just wanted to say a massive thank you for your vids, first polish completed on my wife’s black bmw 120d, da pro machine and scholl s20 with a green hex pad (as recommended by you) and the result is superb! I prepped with some Ag tar remover and clay mitt both of which did a great job, finished it off with some R222 wax! Keep up the brilliant work !
I’ve been an advocate of PF for some time and had some doubts when you gave it a less than favourable review in your finishing polishes test, I’m glad you’ve now discovered its real potential. I combine it with Rupes yellow or white pads and it does the job on just about all paint types. Thanks for a great review.
Hi all got the sonax profiline out to correct a few scratches on my mother's Daytona grey Audi, some where relatively deep and the pad l used was a well used chemical guys green Quantum gone gone... And the finish is stunning, glass like sonax profiline from now on.... Can't believe the finish this has left, didn't work it as long either this time around, the perfect finish indeed
Great work done! The S20 is a product i really like, my first impressions of the Sonax was not that great so it sits on the shelf but i will give it another go now :) Im trying out Tac system Refinish Ultra right now and quite impressed with it, you should give it a go! Cheers from Sweden!
Videos like this are what make your channel great Jon! Keep up the good work. I've been using the S20 but I think for my next correction I'll get some PF just to try it out.
I'm really liking koch chemie H8.02. Just began machine polishing my car and on the bonnet I can clearly see the difference between compounded and untouched sides. This compound gives such good gloss that I might just skip with the polish and go to my britemax blackmax to help deepen / keep in that colour and prep it for waxing.
I freaking love your stuff, and been watching from quite some time now. I'm always amazed of how good you are about product and testing compared to what everyone else is doing on youtube. Car craft auto detailing is upthere with you, but his videos tends to be 40-60min complete correction videos and can't spend that much time. keep doing what you are doing and above, the channel keeps growing and growing.
thanks for the kind words, I dont always get it right or hit the bullseye but the intent is always good. Thats something thats important to me and one of the reasons I got my considerable fat ass in front of the camera. Means a lot when you hear peeps say things like this. I really like sandros channel, comes accross as a great guy and his content is high quality.
I hope you realize how much useful information you're able to give to the viewer, and hope its motivates you to keep putting "your fat ass in front of the camera". You might don't get this often but quite often i laugh so hard to your jokes or way of talking, it's just priceless to me when these moments happened. Cheers mate
Scholl S20 is now my go to, the revised formula wipes off so easily but in my experience you need to really control temperature when using it. It also seemed to separate in the bottle once and a watery oil sat on top and wouldn't mix back in. Great abrasive though.
Great video as always but I will recommend you to buy some microphone that you can attach on t-shirt, and voice will be clear and sharp without fluctuations.
theres some overpeaking on the audio. audio problems are a problem for me.. but using lavel mics and dubbing in the audio adds like another hour or work in the edit and its another thing to have to setup, its a no go for me. that being said the rode mic setup with the cannon DLSR has a problem with hiss. so I have to use it on +20db with 4 clicks of mainual gain. this setup is the only was to remove the hiss but it is very sensitive and when I talk loudly it can overpeak... gonna look to solve the problem but the audio in an echo'y garage will never be great.
Forensic Detailing Channel nor sure what inputs your camera has but at my work I use a wireless collar mic for interviews and sit the receiver for the mic on my camera and then feed this straight into the camera. This way you get good audio from the collar mic and no need to sync it up afterwards. Might be something worth looking into for your set up.
Another great video. I think i will still stick with the s20. For value. Although if used as in a professional situation, the reduced cutting time of the sonax could pay itself back for sure.
I stumbled on your channel a few days ago & have been binge watching ever since! Love it! As someone new to machine polishing can you offer any advice on how to safely approach high spots? I'm going to be taking the DA & a bottle of Scholl to my VW CC (lots of high spots) next week & really don't want to cock it up! Cheers for the great resource!
Ordered some Sonax Perfect Finish to use on my son-in-law's very sad black BMW 3-Series. I'll wash, clay, clean, then use my Meguiars G220 DA, to see what results I will get. Thank you for such an informative video.
Thanks for doing this review. I'm very much a complete novice but got some of this to use after a member on a forum detailed my Skoda using this with a Meguiars DA polisher and yellow polishing pads which I also bought. The DA packed up so now I have a DAS 6 pro so would the same combo work with that or should I use something else (I also have the dark red cutting and black megs finishing pads too). cheers
Great info on these 2 one step compounds! I purchased the S20 a few months ago, but have not used it yet due to my current compounds have been working on vehicles quite well (Griots Correcting Cream & and Perfecting Cream). I have 3 vehicles coming up and will let you know the results after using S20 for the 1st time! Love your in depth forensic evidence of products that I am using or will be trying after viewing your time and effort into paint correction! By the way, have you used/tested any Jescar products?
Another positive for S20 is availability. I can order S20 online in Australia quite easily but there seems to be no distributor for top end Sonax products. That means that on top of the product being more expensive, you have to add crazy international shipping costs that makes Sonax Perfect Finish over twice the cost of Scholl S20.
Great and informative videos as always! I am a begginer planning to get my hands on a das6 pro and start with 1 step correction. I am trying to keep things simple, low time consuming and user friendly. I want to ask if you have tried sonax profiline 04-06 . It looks like it's made for DA polishers, makes me wondering if its a better option than perfect finish. Cheers!
use it with something mid range if you want to get the most out of the cutting phase. works really well on hex logic greens for example.. If the paint is in decent shape you could step down and use a polishing pad. so hex logic on normal DA's.. Cg quantums on large throws machines if you like the CG hex foam types generally.
Great video! Perfect Finish is definitely expensive. My experience with it tho is a little goes along way, which helps justify the price. I also think with Perfect Finish you get what you pay for. A product that really is ahead of the rest in chemistry.
s20 will still work great.. dont go and buy another 1 step if you have it already. the polishing for beginners was shot 2 years ago.. and we cover lots of grounds and discover things which is part of the fun for me to. Im going to redo the polishing guide soon make it a bit more upto date.
Forensic Detailing Channel thanks John. I’m geared up to do my first polishing tomorrow. Doing the whole shebang with c1 and exo etc too. I’ve binged on your great videos for the last two weeks and based most of the process on your recommendations. Wish me luck! :)
Big fan of your videos! Have a black Tesla M3, what two 5.5 in pads would you recommend for cutting and finishing with the sonax ? Have a d/a torx polisher. Thanks from Canada
Love perfect finish I have that in my arsenal! But I use meguiars D151 for my one steps very economical at 30$ a galloon most people dont have a trained eye like us
Very nice, here the Sonax PF are cheaper, so i will try it out 👍👍👍. Correction, Scholl S20 Black is cheaper, n nicer to work with, atleast i think, but i have to get some Sonax now then to try. ☺☺👍👍
Hello and thanks for another great review video, when using a rotary polisher do either of these products leave holograms/buffer trails with rotary polisher with a blue hex pad, or would you recommend a different pad? I'm about to order the pf as I've a car to bring back to life, few scratches and general wear and tear, would be great to know if the pf is a end of process polish. Thanks in advance.
so with most abrasives that provide cut.. if you ramp that rotary up too fast and use pressure you could prolly hologram up the paint.. you would have to really be going some.. if your working sub 1000 rpms with PF you should not be getting holograms generally. you dont have to use PF exactly how they describe but just be mindfull of going to fast at the start of the set.. you can get great results with this sub 1000 rpm.. 700-800 will work great. use a medium pad nothing too stiff. blue hex pad is going to be too soft. Id suggest white or green steven.
Forensic Detailing Channel thanks for the reply. I'm always trying to learn and your channel is a great source of information, I'll be getting the pf and using a white pad. 👍
Would you ever consider comparing these to Menzerna 3 in 1? It's my go to single stage solution. My only gripe is the built in wax streaking when buffing off, but that is usually fixed by wiping over with a quick detailer. Another one is that the buildup in the pads seems to be more than a normal polish, but that just means you need to keep more pads to hand .
From my experience with both, Sonax is noticeably better. Sonax can simply cut deeper and finish better. The Menzerna has some protection in it which gives it an edge at its price point. But they are really 2 different animals. I carry both and use Menzerna for my starter polish packages. I strictly use Sonax for my premium packages as its price and results dictate that. If you've been happy with Menzerna you'll be blown away by perfect finish.
John i was ready to hit the purchase button on a das 6 pro with green hexlogic pads and s20 black for my black subaru. Its quiye heavily damaged with swirls and light and deep scratches. Do you think the the sonax will produce the better correction. And that price is a bit painful ?!!
I’d like to have seen an attempt to get a perfect result with each compound. From beginning to end. To get a live comparison of time efficiency of each product. From what I see Scholl seems more beginner friendly with PF the better product
There is a sonax version of the perfect finish for DA with name EX 04-06, do you have any experience with this product comparing to perfect finish??? i am asking because the version EX 04-06 is a lot cheaper that the perfect finish
Yip S20 is harder to remove and I totally agree with yer outcome mate.... But l will still go with S20 with the DA..... Plus its far cheaper..... After viewing this video maybe l worked the Sonax too long as it began to dust, Scholl S20 never dusted no matter how long l worked it Jon Yeah fair contest mate
I've only used S20 Black twice now - and not sure if I've got a duff bottle or not, but the powder residue it creates is just awful. Will be getting myself a bottle of Sonax to make a comparison.
Not being a professional detailer and more of a weekend warrior I think either of these products would be great. I recently did a 1 stage polish using Megs 205 finishing polish which did a very good job but didn't have the cut to remove any of the deeper marks although it did remove a fair amount. So id certainly consider buying the Sonax, I just simply do not have the time or facilities to be able to do a 2 / 3 stage polish so this seems a perfect fit of being the best of both world's.
Great comparison John. Too bad we can't get Scholl's here in the US, I would like to try it. Another great comparison will be against the Menzerna. Maybe on the next video?
Any chance you could do a review of CSI Ceram-X polish? Seems a little too good to be true. Would be nice to see how it copes with the Forensic Detailer. Thanks!
So I gather these products are a step up from the Dodo Juice Lime Prime?? I was using Lime Prime Lite for just cleaning paint before applying a coat of AW Enigma. For cutting I was using Lime Prime but having seen the sonax do you think it’s worth swapping out the LP for that?
Lime Prime doesnt cut (well just a little bit).. those two are something else.. I used S20 + spider pad and got almost 80% defects removed… impressive stuff
Would a scholl spider neo pad with scholl s20 black be good to use for a civic type r with soft paint. I've used meguiars 205 with a white hex logic pad and it did a good job but I still have some light scratches visible.
yes mate put if you want more cut use it with the scholl purple pad.. the purple is a more capable 1 stage pad and will allow you to work more cut than the orange. very very good pads.
@@ForensicDetailingGreat thanks, I've heard that honda paint if very soft so I just went with a light pad but I'll try a purple pad aswell as the orange. Thanks and have a great new year.
Great comparison, love SPF as a one step on my soft Japanese paint with the green rupes pads. Interested in the Scholls xx3 gold or whatever do you have any experience with it? More/less cut than PF? Don’t see a lot of info for it
Hello Sir :) would you mind giving an advise? I have koch m3.02 and f6.01. Is perfect finish good addition? I found f06 struggling to remove some marks on white porsche paint. Both also give me a hard time on sticky paint. Is perfect finish a good allrounder to provide more cut when needed and still able to do a good one-step? How about the pads? Can I work it with hard/med/soft foams? I use cheap da 15mm.
Hey jon. I have a 2016 Corvette stingray in laguna blue. I tried to wet sand a few lighter scratches out of my paint, and ended up just creating more. I only have a harbor freight (cheap) DA polisher. I have tried 3M ultra cut, Maguiars M105, VSS scratch and swirl. I have tried wool bonnet, microfiber cutting pad, yellow hexlogic etc... Nothing is taking them off. I cannot feel them with my fingernails. Is it time for a new polisher you think or am I just doing something wrong? I have done this for a long time and haven't ever had any issues. I am almost ready to take and have re-cleared, but really think I should be able to correct this. Any advice from you or anyone on here would be great. Thank you.
Nice video but I think you should have included Sonax Ex 04-06 as well in the comparison. This is a one step product aimed more towards the DA where as PF is aimed towards the rotary. Would be nice to see all 3 products compared.
I was going to say that people with DA should most likely try ex 4-6 instead of perfect finish with rotary apparently mostly same products but as mentioned they have specific uses with their own tools.
Jon, I only have DA’s and you’ve noted the Sonax is designed for better performance with a rotary. With that in mind do you think the Sonax is worth the premium over the S20 if it’s only going to be used with a DA?
such a tough question answer. basically is it worth it.. first of its lovely, great big working window in terms of cut and finish nice to use. light etc.. but yer its at that price that just sets alarm bells off in my head. A bottle of polish really should not cost 44 pounds. But ultimately price is a very personal thing. I said I would probably buy it and use it.. Time will tell on that.
What Sonax polish would you use on a Mercedes 2003 E class . It’s got lots of swirl marks , Sonax perfect finish or Sonax cut and finish . I have previously used Poorboys SSR 2.5 and a green hex logic pad on a da .This improved it but it could be better .
that paint could well be the bullet proof stuff thats a pain to cut. Im not sure if I would go with either of them. Ive got cut and finish and PF. Id say cut and finish would be the best bet. but hey try PF first you never know. If your using a DA and its a older car with potentially a ton of swirls. I think your looking at 2staging this. I would prolly go with H8.02 and then M2.01 but Im just guessing it impossible to really know whats gonna work best unless you have the car in front of you and your hitting it and seeing what happens. But you might find you have a hard time with PF or cut and finish to be honest. They are both closer to mid range cut in my opinion and you might need something in the top heavy cut bracket.
I am pretty sure the clear coat is the rock hard stuff . Thanks for the advice but I agree with you it’s like me asking you how long a piece of string ! Does Poorboys SSR 2.5 have much cut ?
Hi I know this is a old video but how do you find sonax perfect finish in a da especially with rupes yellow pad, alot of the forums are stating its filler heavy for some reason as the abrasives do not break down fully on a da polisher, escroric Todd uses this polish on his channel and really rates it plus apex details as well, will be keen to know your professional opinion
Hello...you said in this video that is needed to degrease the surface after using this products...but sellers that sells scholl s20B describe that it leaves a level of protection and do not recommend wiping it with IPA because it will remove level of protection that it had?
@@ForensicDetailing i was chatting with local seller about s20black and enigma AIO (i have specifally ask if i can add turtle wax ceramic spray after polishing with enigma) and they answered that wiping with ipa will remove fillers that enigma already have and adding t wax is possible but it will be hard to remove excesses because it will not stick to the paint but to the fillers . Now i see they talked about enigma aio, not about s20black.
@@davorri The Scholl S20 Black has no fillers and doesn‘t add any paint protection/sealant. Wiping out with a soft IPA-mix is recommended and will not bring any problems. Must have been a missunderstanding what these guys told you. ✌🏼
Hi, would You be so nice and compare s20 to new ecofix range e2000? There's been ecofix polishes since end of the last year still i found only one RU-vid video about it.
PF is designed for a rotary, yet still had higher gloss ratings than S20 with a DA. I'd say PF works excellent with a DA. As a matter of fact, Sonax came out with a DA version of PF, and the "rotary" version still finishes better using a DA. LOL
gonna do something to answer this soon. I still like the standard hex logic range works pretty damn well on 8 mill throw DA's. I like the fact the foams are not too agressive up in the cutting pad range green-orange-yellow. Been starting to look at a few options off camera to gear up to providing recomendations of pads for specific machines.
What I am really looking for is a compound purely for gloss/finishing. I not need much cut because it is a new black metallic car. What should I use? These are with to much cut I imagine. Any advise?
you will still have swirls even if its new :) Perfect finish is a great choice if you dont care about cost. You also have Scholl S30 which is a finer gloss polish and one step further Scholl S40 which is ultra fine. These products are for use with machine polishers. If you want something use by hand try bilt hamber Cleaner Polish (not cleanser fluid)
Unfortunatelly in my country BOTH have the same price!!!!!!! Also tha DA version of the pf with name ex 04-06 in my country costs 28euro/lt !!!! Fantastik price!!! You sould try Scoll a15 AIO ....i think you will like it. No one else had made video for A15......it worth the try!!!
Great video jon.i thought the S20 black would win,but surprisingly sonax just edged it.shame sonax is not £15 cheaper.your white board is filling up a bit Jon.
Try them om sticky or super soft paint and the pf will stick out even more. S20B is good but it simply isn't as versatile on different paint types aa the pf. A real problem solver.
Very good local Scholl consepts distributor very nice prises, i already used 1kg of s20, and s40...and they are great products. Also i using Perfect finish ...also very whell prised in my country. I am looking for a nice AIO, but only i have acsess to menzerna 3-1, local Scholl distributor adviced me to test scholl AIO with name.......Scoll consepts A15 AIO polish.............have you ever try it? or you have ane expireince with this or with Menzerna 3-1? thanks
not tried 3-1 but I think your in good hands with scholl menz and sonax. just the profiline range is very pricey in the Uk which is a shame. I looked at PF but Im just not prepared to pay 44 a litre of polish. 25-30 is kind of where I really want to be.
@@ForensicDetailing thank you sir, unfortunatelly Sonax dont have a good AIO in profiline ,sometimes i am using EX 04-06 witch is not so efectieve in polishing but is much more cheaper than PF with 90%of PFs performance!!!! so i just have 2 options in my country for AIO menzerna 3-1 38euros 1lt, or scholl A15 32euros per 1lt................... as AIO i mean clean+polsih+ protect in one stage products
You should do a comparison between other compounds/ one steps and polished and compare them to optimum spray compounds and polish such as hyper polish / intensive polish and hyper compound.
kind of have done hayden... hyper compound and polish in the optimum review.. other compounds in best compound video and other finishing polishes in the bset finishing polish video... and generally on the channel as well we have done a fair bit on abrasives..
your spot on yes. I would go with green mate. but buy a couple of whites as well just in case. you could also try the Rupes yellow cones from polished bliss they work great with perfect finish and are a bit cheaper.
Forensic Detailing Channel Thanks pal I’ve already purchased 2 of each hex logic pads for the 5 inch n 3 inch backing plates on my das6 pro so hope I have enough... do I need to keep cleaning the pads after each panel? Or swap them after one half of the car. Tia
