In the book it is given that we have to place the leaf in the dark room for the starch to get used up . If there would be no starch present how it'll turn blue.

If u observe the last step where I am adding iodine solution to the leaf in that case the entire leaf is not turning blue black but only certain parts of the leaf is turning blue black. The reason that turned blue black contain the starch due to presence of chlorophy
