In this out and about video we have video 3 of class 37 week. In this video i go to Cardiff to see class 37s back in passenger service in South Wales. Its well worth a trip to Cardiff now with the 37 there every week day
37s were a common sight in South Wales when I was a lad in the 1970s. At one point around a third of the total number of the class were allocated to Cardiff Canton depot. They have proved to be a hugely successful class
It’s great seeing large logo 37s in various points on the network and blue and grey coaches. The Norwich - Yarmouth line is another good place to watch 37s at the moment
Great to see 37's continuing to run on mainline passenger & other services even though some are now 59 years old, which is totally crazy when you think about it. Its a credit to the design and ongoing care these locos get from the various maintenance teams working for DRS, WCRC, Colas that they are not only surviving against the odds but still totally trusted to run single handed on these services. I wonder what its telling us about the state of our railways though - just looking at the overhead wire gantries in Cardiff station also tells a sorry tale too ! How many more years can the 37's continue?
Great video, Matt. I saw one of the class 37 duo pull into the station last Thursday evening before making my journey home from uni. It was the Colas Rail one, I saw.
Hi Matt, it’s been a great class 37 week part 3, always great to catch any class 37, you have plenty of choice to film down in South Wales compared to North Wales 🏴 Look forward to your next blog Matt 👍Thumbs Up 👍
Was watching a video cassette about Toton yard from 1998. It said they are in of the most reliable diesels in the UK. No wonder DRS, WCRC, Colas Rail (Freight), DB all have some!
Very nice Matt, I wish I'd seen them when I was there. You stood exactly where I boarded the HST set for Bristol as you filmed it leaving the station. Regards, David.
Brilliant video! Great thrash from 418 and nice to see 421 on the training run! Those mk2s are spot on! I see they have the second set there now so the second diagram could possibly start next week.
Well Matthew 37418 was chucking out a lot of smoke and I think the driver was quite using to much power when departing platform 6 it was also nice to see the other class 37 on it's training run heading into Cardiff Central and with only the sounds of what a 37 can do a bit of horn would had made a little bit of what a class 37 dose when it is at it's best. Ive been on a class 37 today going from Caerphilly to Aber, and they are very fun to ride. A bit quiet in the 2nd carriage, cant hear the engine very much unfortunately
Sadly not as slam door stock don't comply with DDA and therefore will be illegal to use come 2020. These services should stay until the end of December I believe.
