Almost 50 minutes of action from the mid 90s at locations like Peak Forest, Mobberley, Northwich and Oakleigh Yard plus a couple of other locations along the route. I used to chase these trains between various points and most drivers would be well aware of this as can be seen from some of the shots. Locos featured are 686,518,417,675,503 and 108. I've hours and hours of footage of these workings so I may well put some more online. I filmed these trains right up until the use of the PHV hoppers finished, along with a few dedicated other 'regulars', I'm sure they know who they are and this footage is dedicated to them all. We must have been mad at times to brave all those long freezing cold hours up in the hills, waiting for the' hoppers', but looking back now, it was worth it and if I could turn back the clock I'd do it all again !
Enjoy !

Some of my best times on the railways spent on those duties. Excellent reminder of the good old days.

Hi mate, Sorry for the delayed reply, sounds top notch and the diversions yes mega i remember them well taking some weird & wonderful routes. 686 my fav beast yeh i remember her going to TE and wasn't amused tbh as was a nightmare trying to find her over the Eastern side of the country:( shame she never did anything up Forest in EWS days but she sure did visit Warrington again which was a treat. Anyway looking forward to your next upload chap. Cheers, Jon.

Absolutely mega! Really enjoyed this chap and brings back many happy memorys of my favourite train! I just wish back then i'd of video'd this working instead of just taking pics. Also really nice to see my baby (37686) appearing on your clips a good few times she was my fav 37 mainly because she was the last 37/5 to leave Buxton in R/F Construction livery:) Thankyou very much for uploading this excellent footage its by far the best set of ICI hopper vids i've seen and please upload more clips;)

I was out a lot filming the hoppers in the mid 90's with guaranteed 37 haulage particularly at Hale and Northenden. Happy Days. All I had was a Sony Hi8 video camera, long before digital became mainstream , but it worked well.

Absolutely brilliant collection and great memories of the Hoppers. - 13.25 - train without a tail lamp..and no signal-box between there and Brunner Mond to check it - and there used to be three!

Very well spotted there @ 13.25 ! This bit of footage was taken following the splitting up of the train in Northwich Yard, as you probably remember the Oakleigh jobs were usually split into two portions at Northwich due to siding length restrictions in Oakleigh Yard, meaning two trips between Northwich and Oakleigh. The footage I took at this point was of the first portion, maybe the shunter had either forgot or couldnt be bothered walking back another 12 hoppers or so !!! Happy days !!!

Hey, very interesting footage you have there. I worked with the network rail tech team that cover east Manchester which includes peak forest etc. Was always a favourite of mine to make the trip up there to carry out switch inspections and watch all the 66s and the occasional 60. Nice to see how things haven't changed too much!

Glad you enjoyed the footage. I've hours and hours more of similar stuff, featuring different locations and some interesting weekend diversions that this train occasionally made due to engineering works. IIRC 686 didnt last that much longer on these trains, it got sent to Immingham and then Thornaby and not long after ended up in France. I remember looking round it at Wigan CRDC on its return, heavily robbed and in a right state. I'll upload more when I get chance so keep checking back..........

Do you have any footage of the ICI hoopers going through Skelton Junction?

I'm pretty certain I have somewhere, I'm in the process of converting my remaining tapes onto DVD for transfer elsewhere, its a rather long job ! When I find anything I'll upload it for you when time permits.
