I understood spur pruning but this is the first video that actually explains cane pruning really well.

I hope you two realize how much of a Blessing you are for teaching and sharing the knowledge you have. I know nothing about planting and gardening food but know it has been a desire for too long. And I thank you two for inspiring people like me to get it going. God Bless♡

Your video is easy to understand plus hearing your reasoning for what to leave and what to take out was super helpful! Thank you for explaining each step so thoroughly. I think I'm ready to go prune now.

Thank you. I have a gnarly old Himrod that hasn't ever really been pruned. I have hacked away at it but I didn't know what I was doing. It was helpful to see a pruning on the variety that I have.

This video has been extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing your wisdom about pruning and growing grapes. I'm looking for even more information to become familiar with what everything is called, what everything looks like, and the reasons to do one choice or another. Best wishes for a great harvest this year of 2022.

Thank you for explaining everything so well. I have a red globe which, I believe, needs cane pruning. I only planted it last April ( late for southern Spain, but I didn’t know any better) and the canes are still quite short with only 10 buds on each one max. I figured I’d leave it till next Jan/Feb 2024 before pruning, or should I already prune to make some spurs now?

Wow, this was a wonderful video! My daughter just bought her grandmother's house in Springville, Utah and it has TONS of grape vines. I do not believe they have been trimmed since 2008.

So all those branches you cut off. You could propagate those by putting them in sand moist sand. And start more grapes

My question is, how to prune grape vines that are low to the grown and are green with leaves and have fruit? I see many videos of pruning with the grapevines that are dormant.

At 12:45 you seem to be using the terms "cordon" and "canes", interchangeably. Im confusion

This video was a greatly appreciated. I am still overwhelmed by what I need to address though. I have bought a house on Crete, Greece and we believe the grape vines we have are at least 75 years old, maybe older. They had been pruned in the past, but the previous owner may have skipped a year or two prior to selling. I can see the cordons and I believe I need to cane prune, but it is on a trellis and I am just not sure. Is there any guides with photos that may help me decide which path to go?

I have a white grape that starts putting on good-looking clusters, but when they get to pea size or a little bigger, they look like they are turning into raisens and dry up and fall off. Ant thoughts on why this is happening?

Grate video thank you. I'm new to all this so I found it very interesting. Would I be correct in thinking that cains that are pruned off will root and can be used as cuttings??

I'm trying to relate grape vine pruning with what I know about blackberry vine pruning. And then, there is kiwi vine pruning.

How do I start if I just bought a grapevine this spring and when I got it it was about 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall and already had leaves/tiny fruit all over it. I just planted it and I’m curious if I should prune it or just let it go this first year. Plz halp

Are you in Utah or similar climate? The length of your growing season could be a factor. Here in Utah, I would say there would be no problem just letting it grow as a bush in its first year in the ground. Personally, I would remove the fruit now so that it can focus its energy on root development. Next year you will want to be on top of pruning and training in the spring. It will grow crazy fast early after breaking dormancy next year so you'll need to remove side shoots etc as it goes. To get an idea of what I am talking about, watch our video on our grape arbor over our greenhouse. I show the training to form a trunk during the second year in the ground. Good luck and have fun!

@foodscapingutah5239
@foodscapingutah5239 2 года назад
@@andtotherepublic8657 Your growing season is longer, so you could go either way. If it is already going crazy as a bush, you could let it go; or, if you want to start training it, pick a particularly vigorous shoot or two that you want to keep and start taking off some of the weaker shoots, ideally when they are short (less than 6").

Can last years fruiting cane be used to create new spurs? If not, how far should we cut last years fruited cane?
