Just a small correction for the Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion, the formula is not the right one, because we are looking for the differences or changes of temperatures thus: Delta F = F2 - F1 = 9/5 × (C2 - C1) = 9/5 × Delta C Or as a rule of thumb: Delta F = 2×Delta C We are given the deltas in Celsius Delta F= 9/5 × 2°C = 3.6°F = 4°F 0.4°C -> 0.8°F 0.08°C -> 0.16°F ...

It turned out to be quite an interesting lecture. Of course, learning should be as active as possible. The bottom line is that every student is involved in the process. This option can really help in the development of teamwork. I really liked the lecturer's attention to individual words and their value, like "discuss". Thank you!

Active learning is a very dynamic system.when used properly more students can contribute in this kind of system. Data gathering is an invaluable tool in this kind of system .Data analysis and consolidation would help us learner in this kind of program.

Question from Judges: How do we quantify how much active learning should be implemented? It depends on the subject. Each department could formulate a baseline standard and periodically assess the results each semester. Regarding the judges decision not to implement active learning by 2017: Point 1(funding): First talk to the Center for Teaching and Learning unit on your campus for low cost options to implement active learning. Then periodically assess to determine, over time where to direct funding. Point 2: Current lecture style of professor lecturing to students is working, there is no need for change. I disagree. Rote memorization of material students will forget in a period of weeks is unacceptable. University's must prepare and challenge students with real problems to engage with and solve Great vlog, keep this material coming!

Yes! Another problem: There are departments for a reason. But you need to LISTEN to the advice as well. Not just hire them and brush them off. SMH I know one private college here in Iowa who hired an extremely intelligent person to change up the system but the heads in place were reluctant. What’s the point of hiring for change if you don’t implement it? So many partnerships and federally funded programs to aid in STEM & active learning. It’s time colleges focus on the very things taught in active learning - starting with more collaborations.

What were Group 3 doing while the other groups discussed their set of arguments to put forwards? I heard the lecturer say they had been resting, but I would be surprised if a third of the class was left idle for 10 minutes. At the beginning she was talking about how much more purchase demonstration has when it was preceded by prediction-making. Perhaps she could have had this group predict what the arguments on each side might sound like, create a list of their predictions and have someone in the group check-off the list as Group 1 or 2 presented and debated to see if there were common notions, or something or other.

My only issue here is that the group who was to take the negative were given the weaker hand in the discussion. Where as the pro group had the stronger hand of facts and research. So it was an unfair in a way and the deck was stacked against them. My point is that the negative group needed more time to develop their arguments, there by forcing the pro group to work harder in defending and thereby reveal any potential weaknesses in the active learning system that adopters would have to overcome.

i have always challanged this and if you are qualified please explain to me why i am wrong, since when and why does learning have to be fun and interactive and student centric and all that drum circle horse shit .... the purpose of learning is not to serve as a parlour trick designed to entertain the student, its purpose is to impart knowledge that they do not yet know, it is not suppose be easy fun or interactive, its suppose to teach things you don't know ... i see the time as the problem, educators always have to cram centuries worth of knowledge into a semester, there is not the time for interactive student centric drum circle nonsense in any case definitely not in hard sciences, i would argue a time based approach for different students based on ability would work way better if you clever do it in 1 semester if not learn the same material over couple of semesters better than failing it 2 or 3 times before getting by with a C minus on the final attempt
