I was at this race and my friend and I were blown away by this thing hunting down the 360. It's a shame he was leading then his engine blew up by super speedway turn 4. I can't wait for HSR's classic 24 to return next year in Daytona: awesome, cheap, and fun event.
Really.?! You we’re at this race? And the engine “blew up”? So….can you give the details good Sir? I was in the pits parked next to this car and team. Please enlighten us with your version of reality.
And people say Muscle Cars can't corner... I know technically it's a pony car, but you got the point. Amazing the music of this V8 getting almost 8k rpm...
I went to Watkins Glenn back in 11 or 12 during SAAC and the Vintage race car clubs track day and watched 289 cars go full song and realizing some things :-)
I'd love to get out there n practice like that with a bunch of cars, pretty bad ass, man. Plus, a mustang makes it even better! The race itself, they aren't gonna let you by so easy, plus they wont let up either lol. Still would be a blast regardless. My dad races stock cars here at the Indianapolis Speedrome/Anderson Speedway!
braking technique with the left foot (while accelerating fully) ..... it is not for really braking, it is used to transfer the weight towards the front axle, in order to load the tires with adhesion prior to a change of direction of the car.
I mean those other drivers not really racing cuz it sure seemed like. Passed everyone like its just another day. Awesome build on the engine and great driving as well.
Maybe he missed qualifying due to mechanical problems, however in short track stockcar racing back in the day at weekly shows fast cars those with most points would start in the back and therefore have to work their way through the field. Made for a better show.
Where can I find the specs or build sheet on this car? I'd like to know about the engine, brakes, and steering mainly. I'm building a 67 Trans Am inspired Mustang.
Ford knew what they were doing in the early 60's since then the parts for these engines, and the equipment in general has become quantum leaps better the tires especially. I think I've seen this car before if it's real Shelby then I have!
awesome! talkin' about spanking everybody left and right.... that was great! Though I have a question if anyone can answer, why is the fuel line in the passenger compartment (you can see the big -10an line and big inline fuel filter on the passenger side door cage tube)???? I'm no road racer, but I would think that's a major tech issue right there, but I guess that's ok with this series?? Seems totally nuts to have a fuel line in there should a wreck occur, and I'm guessing it's an electric fuel pump too. Couldn't pay me to race with a fuel line in my lap. Awesome car though, so cool to see an old mustang taking out Porsche's and the like.
+ratmousebastard As long as its metal braided they allow them through the drivers compartment. Several tracks in our area are the same way with the rules. Might also be an oil line to a cooler in the back? Looks pretty big.
+SqueegeeBeaverRacing and +eatingsnowman, that's insane, you couldn't pay me to put a fuel line inside. I don't think it's an oil line, that's a common fuel filter, unless they just used a big screen in it to allow oil to flow well. But putting a big dry sump tank in the back? I myself wouldn't even want an oil line in there, you could get some pretty horrible burns should that line come apart in a bad wreck. Braided lines themselves are very strong, but the hose ends are just aluminum, one good direct hit on them and they'll break off pretty easily. That is an obviously pretty powerful engine, so a big fuel line would make sense. Maybe it's just lines hooked up to an automatic high flowing coffee maker, he did go from the back of the pack to the front like it was nothing! lol
Lots of engine in that Mustang. I may be wrong but I don't think engines of that era shifted at over 7500RPMs. Some one commented it blowed up after this. No matter what, a fun ride.
Clearly the Shelby ate everyone's lunch! Is it me or was the Shelby loose coming out of the turns and having to slow (comparatively speaking) going into the turns. It flat out put beast mode on every car there in the straights and high bank. The only time they could stay with it was in corners it seemed. Probably just me! Awesome driving job and pure beast mode Mustang!
I race with Olly Bryant in the HSR Historic Stock Car Class, Group 8, SCB with a 7500rpm chip rule. I went to Daytona Speedway in ``09 and took a driving lesson with ``Richard Petty Driving Experience`` and let me assure one thing I wasnt fast as hell as this Stang. LoL!
Brilliant driving and nothing beats that sound, but what are the suspension specs? I doubt he's still driving with a period suspension setup, with a modern suspension and shock upgrade almost all older racecars will be competitive with their modern day counterparts. And having a Shelby also helps alot :-)
Imagine being in your limited production European sports car designed for the track, and suddenly an American car originally never meant for the track says "pardon me gentlemen, coming through" and i get it, it's not anywhere close to stock, and i guess the others aren't either, but even so, it's still a square brick in comparison. A brick with a small block pushrod V8 making music to my ears. Lol.
Many people ask why we love the Ford Mustang so much? Well...this video explains some of the reasons! SMOKINSTANGS - Mustang Forums & Enthusiast Community www.smokinstangs.info
It's a good driver and a massive fast car, which is why it's not very interesting. The car is obviously faster than the rest of cars so it was kinda boring, I thought they were very similar in speed and acceleration, that would be interesting to watch someone make it to 1st place from 25th, like gp2 or something
Mother of God!!!!!!! Understand the Mustang greasing the inferior engineering of the Porsche’s but the way this car overhauls and crush’s the Ferrari and full blown race cars. Mid evil!!!!!
Was the driver of that yellow Ferrari (near the end of the clip) asleep? A mustang - admittedly with a great driver - just kept up with a Ferrari through a chicane. Now I know this is a race spec mustang but a bloody Mini can out corner these cars
he was about 10seconds off the lead car time... 1:59 vs 1:51s.... ahead of him by time were porsche caymans, cup cars, and others. still impressive. the engine i hear was not original by any stretch. www.hsrrace.com/2014_Events/Daytona/Results/G510.pdf
+David Acampora Type1 High Performance spent a lot of time trying to get it to turn, that coupled with the fact that Olly Bryant is a great driver makes it look easy. Daytona is basically a big long straight away for this car.
Historic Sportscar Racing Your ignorance is almost as bad as your observations. If this Mustang could not turn or stop with the other cars it would not have crushed the widow makers in the infield. Granted the motor is special. The Mustang does toy with the remainder of the field on the banking and straights but it still has to stop and turn. I am not saying the other cars cannot turn. The Mustang is not as far behind as you are insinuating. You need to stop watching Top Gear.
