I agree taking it through to the border is excellent and saved me loads of messing about, often the borders are the hardest parts especially when it’s a circular edge .
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I need to make a baby blanket for an upcoming shower and am excited to try this! As a beginner crocheter, I appreciate the time you spend, showing the stitches, explaining, demonstrating, etc. I have learned so much from your tutorials! 😊
This is the first baby blanket I have crochet'd and I loved it! It worked up easy. The baby I made it for came 3 weeks early, and I liked the edges of the blanket without the border, so I gave it to my friend's new baby without the border. It is a lot larger than I thought (I will look more closely at the completed measurements next time). I finished the border on my swatch so I could learn how to do it. Your video tutorials are very thorough and I really enjoyed making this and look forward to doing it again - with the cute border. Thank you!
Just curious what you would call this stitch? It seems to be a variation of a moss stitch. I love how it’s working up very quickly and I’m using a rose colored yarn for a friend that is expecting a baby girl in November. I’m excited to see how it turns out😃
Hello! I've called this stitch the Modified Blanket Stitch as it's similar to the Blanket Stitch but in reverse. I created this stitch as I was trying out different combinations of stitches for this blanket pattern. I fell in love with it and have used this new Modified Blanket Stitch in my Summer Headband, Easy Triangle Shawl and Easy Bandanas patterns. :) I'm glad you're liking it too. Congratulations on your friend's new baby!
I’m about 1/3 of the way done and after working with Bernat Baby Sport a lot lately, I’m surprised at how soft this is! And with a 5mm hook, it’s thick and “sturdy”. After washing it will definitely loosen up. I look forward to seeing it finished.
Are you using Pound of Love? I find there's a difference between colors but I loved the Antique White (and also the purple I used in my Hearts Puff Stitch blanket). They were both so buttery smooth and great to work with and I didn't find it too stiff or heavy. I look forward to hearing about your finished blanket!
@@jototheworldcreations Yep, I have quite a bit of Pound of Love stash to use up. I’m using a mauve colorway and I think I’ll use antique white to do the border. Thanks for the pattern.
Love your work, esp, THIS blanket, it's LOVELY. Thanks for the tutorial. Back Bumps are a bit difficult for me, hopefully this will help PUT THEM in place. Thanks
Thank you so much! Working in the back ridge loops (back bumps) helps prevent a gap when you add the border. Crocheting into the back ridge loops is tighter than the top or bottom loops so it is normal for it to be quite tight when inserting your hook into the bumps. Take your time! It's worth it so there's no large, unwanted gap once the border is added.
I usually never comment, but this time i have to say thank you so much for this tutorial! This was such a funny blanket to make. I rarely finish projects because i get overwhelmed or bored 😅 but this was easy, fun and quick.
Thank you for this tutorial ❤ I’m an advanced crocheter but I do love making easy pieces sometimes that are relaxing! I’m hoping to be a single mom by choice here very soon and am trying to conceive my first ever baby using a donor 😊 I’ll be making this blanket for my future sweet little peanut 🥜 💕👶🏼❤😊
This is such a beautiful blanket! I wad wondering, do you think it would work up as nicely with cotton yarn? Or would you recommend acrylic over cotton?
Hello! I used 100% acrylic for this blanket. I really wish I could comment on the end result using cotton but unfortunately, I’ve only made it with acrylic. It may be absolutely lovely with cotton or it may be a little different. I wish I could help more but it’s hard to say without making it with that type of yarn. If there’s anything else I can do to help, please let me know. Thanks again for your interest in this blanket!
I love this pattern…one row repeats are the best! However, instead of one turning chain, I put two. One just didn’t seem like enough…it pulled inward at the end of each row. Two stitches at the end when turning gives it a nicer edge I find.
Thank so much! I don't have matching hats or mittens at the moment but good to know there is an interest and will start thinking about potential designs!
Just started this blanket... sooo easy once (and I'm a pretty new crocheter) I got past the first row and it works up SUPER fast! Thank you so much.. Your video made it a breeze to do!
Hello Jo! The pattern is lovely! I haven't crocheted in years and would like to make a baby blanket for my daughter. I mistakenly bought baby yarn ( 5 ply sport) with 3 mm hook size recommended. I have a 3.75mm (F) hook and one that is a touch smaller but the numbers are illegible. I can't return the yarn and am wondering what you would recommend?
Hi Jonelle! Thank you so much. I haven't tested this pattern using your yarn and hook size so I can't say for sure but that combination might actually work out beautifully! Why not give it a try and see how you like it :) I'd love to know how you make out.
Thank you! I really wish I could help but I’ve only designed, made and tested this blanket pattern with size 4 (medium) yarn. You are welcome to try! Just know that the overall look, feel, size and amount of yarn required may be different.
Hello! You can adjust the width by making more or less starting chains in multiples of 4 + 3 (meaning to take any number that you can divide by 4 and add 3 to that number). To adjust the height, make less or more rows. I really wish I could help and tell you exactly how many chains you will need to make the blanket in the size you would like but I’ve only designed, made and tested this blanket to be the size that’s listed in the pattern and I wouldn’t want to give you in accurate information. For reference, making 127 starting chains creates a blanket that is approx. 33” without the border and 36” with the border. Hope this helps!
Is this blanket heavy? The last baby blanket I started to make with size 4 yarn seemed heavy not something you could cuddle a baby with. It is sure beautiful! Thanks for posting!
@@jototheworldcreations thanks, I'll have to look for that yarn! I'm doing a project with cotton yarn. I bought the same brand, 2 different colors, one is great for the project the other too heavy. I need to pay more attention. Thanks again.
Thank you! This pattern is designed and tested with the yarn size/type and hook that is listed in the pattern. You are welcome to try something else but the size and overall look of your finished item may turn out differently.
Hello! This blanket was designed with the yarn weight and hook size that are listed in the pattern and I recommend using those. You are welcome to try something else but the size, overall look and feel of your finished blanket as well as the amount of yarn required may be different.
Lovely pattern. It would have been better if you would have shown how to end Row 1 instead of stumbling over the explanation. Alot of people are visual learners and need to see something while it is being explained. Please don't take this comment as a negative, but only a helpful suggestion. Please keep the beautiful patterns coming!
Thank you for your feedback. I will keep that in mind for my next video. Note that you don’t do anything differently to end the row, you continue doing the same thing all the way across. Happy crocheting!
Thank you. I highly recommend learning how to work in the back ridge loops, it’s actually one of my top tips for absolute beginners, as it prevents large unwanted gaps or holes when the border is added so you will be much happier with the result!
Beginner crocheter here.. the first. The first 5 rows look like the tutorial but now it seems to be getting a sort of bobble look, I’m still following the instructions and haven’t changed the stitches but not sure why this has happened 😢
That’s very strange. All the rows are exactly the same so they shouldn’t look any different. Is there a chance you accidentally did something differently? Perhaps watch Row 2 again and compare what you’re doing? Or take a look at the written instructions to be sure? If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know.
@@jototheworldcreations I’ve just done the saddest part by undoing the wrong 5 rows 😂 so going to go over the row 2 again. Appreciate the comment back. Thankyou x
I'm halfway through this blanket (with 4ply). I'm so excited about how it's turning out. My usual go-to blanket is c2c. This looks just like it, but a lot simpler. Thanks again.
I sure do! The printable PDF of this pattern is available for purchase here: jototheworld.com/product/classic-baby-blanket-crochet-pattern-pdf. I hope you enjoy making this blanket!
Hello! It's okay if your blanket is not the exact same size as mine. You may crochet looser than I do. Also, using a different brand of yarn can make the blanket a different size. Having a blanket that is 39" wide is still a wonderful width for a blanket. :) If you aren't happy with the width and would like to make it smaller, you can use a smaller hook or less starting chains (in the multiples provided in the pattern).
